I figured a lot of CAG's just got this super cheap at Costco (it was only $10, sale is over now though), and how many people are liking it?

I gave it a try, and let me tell you, the first 15 - 20 minutes of getting used to the controls are extremely tough, especially if you're used to the regular Tony Hawk controls.

But after those initial 20 minutes, something just seemed to click, and the controls actually handle pretty decently, to the point where I was getting silver's and gold's pretty often.

The game has a lot of variety, it's not just downhill racing, it's got slalom's, grind challenges, trick challenges, vs challenges - I've seen the comparision to SSX come up a lot, and I agree - if you like SSX, you're going to really like Downhill Jam.

The characters have a lot of personality as well, and the courses are varied with some good shortcuts, I'm wondering how many people also got this game and are enjoying it a lot more than they thought?

I also picked it up on the cheap, and I just didn't like it. The controls to me were loose and I couldn't stomach any character (except for Tony). Anyway, I threw it up on my trade list. I'm sure it's good for some people, just not me.

The controls get A LOT better once you get some new boards... I've gotten 4 or 5 new boards, and the control got a lot easier - I went back to some old courses and got gold's on everything with no problem.

I think it's the turning and balance stat, once you get those up, the game gets a lot easier to control. I've put maybe 6 or so hours into it now, and I've gotten gold's on the first 3 tier's, so eventually the game gets easier to control and handle.

I like it more than any recent Tony Hawk, including Project 8, because it feels fresh and has an SSX vibe to it, and I enjoy SSX a lot more these days than Tony Hawk. It's a shame, imo, we'll never see a Downhill Jam 2. I like that the characters pretty much acknowledge the fact they are stereotypes and the developers run with it - there is some jokes in here that border on the decency line ;) I was never really a fan of "Hey let's design my own guy with no personality".
