Too late to get a 360?

Hey guys,

I just noticed the 360 can be had for $150. Is it worth it to get one so late in the game? Keep in mind I have a ps3 and wii and a gaming rig capable of playing most new games at average settings.

Ive held out so long because most games on it were available on ps3 or PC, but im starting to think I may have missed out on some good exclusive titles.

Should I get one now, wait for blackfriday, or wait for next gen? Also if you could recommend some must-have 360 games I would appreciate it (I love a good RPG, any other genre besides sports I play as well, however, I do prefer to plate FPS on pc.)

Thanks for the help

I would say it is well worth it considering all of the platinum hits xbox exclusives that can be picked up for so cheap now. Pick up Gears Of War, Halo 3 or Reach, I could go on for days.

I wouldn't wait until the next gen, because it might be another year or two, and that's a ton of gaming left in the 360's life span.

If you have a ps3 and a gaming pc there's no real reason to buy a 360. The above poster saying he can go on for days about 360 exclusives is just silly. He named the 2 franchises that they have and they're both extremely mediocre.

You're fine to get one. We don't even have an announcement for the next system. I have all 3 systems as well, and I spend most of my time on the 360.

The one exclusive that all 360 games have is party chat ;). Gears 1, 2 and 3 are extraordinary games. They're very unique in gameplay and blow FPSs out of the water. Playing CoD MP after playing Gears MP literally had me yawning. Literally. I'm not much of an FPS guy, though.

I think people should list the exclusives that make the system worth buying. (I'm content with PS3 and Wii, but I'm open to being persuaded.) The only exclusive I really am dying to play is Banjo Kazooie. Not a big Halo fan and I can leave Gears because of similar experiences available on PS3 if I want it. Other games people?

What he said. Sony and Nin have a better lineup of exclusives that cover a wide variety of genres. Anyone trying to list 360 exclusives will hand you a list of shooters. And since that genre is all kinda the same you're best off with the 2 you have because pretty much anything worth playing will be on them eventually. To me PC would be better if they cut all the annoying DRM.

As an owner of all three systems I can tell you right now two things: first off: I play too many games... second: There is nothing like gears on PS3, especially the multiplayer component. Uncharted is the closest and I think the only thing they have in common is that it's in third person.

For the OP, Tales of Vesperia was a great RPG if you like the JRPG genre. I liked Alan Wake and Fable 2 a lot as well, and they can be had cheap.

I think it's just going to depend on what games you love to play. I can't imagine not having an xbox, but it's because I really like gears and halo. If you are not into either one of those(especially if you own a gaming PC) it's a tougher sell. Also you need to factor in 40-60 bucks for live. If you are not going to get live, I wouldn't bother.

Lastly consider the amount of games on XBLA. I do a surprising amount of gaming on those releases and there are way more high quality games that show up there as exclusive than at retail these days.

you should probably research those xbox 360 exclusives and see if any of them are worth ur time, also u might wanna look into the kinect if your into games like dance central which totally makes it worth it, there are some black friday deal coming around so u might be able to score a 360 and a kinect for cheap

Depending on what you like, there's lots of great 360 exclusives you might be interested in checking out:

Tales of Vesperia (and several other JRPGs)
Mass Effect 1
Halo series
Fable series

I dont understand why people ask questions that are so readily available on google: how the hell should we know what will float your boat. how are we suppose to agree on games that are good or appealing for you. here are a list of exclusives that took me 10 seconds to track down:

I wouldn't. If you have a gaming capable PC and a PS3, you pretty much have access to every notable title this generation. Most 360 exclusives end up on the PS3 or PC, even the XBL titles or the PS3 gets some kind of alternative (Tales of Xillia in place of Vesperia). The only notable games you're missing out on are Gears and Halo, neither of which have maintained the same "wow" factor they had in their original entries.

But my biggest issue is that MS doesn't seem to want to support the 360. Sony is pumping out game after game whereas MS is spending a majority of its resources being casual Kinect bullshit.
Ive held out so long because most games on it were available on ps3 or PC, but im starting to think I may have missed out on some good exclusive titles.
The only two franchises worth a shit IMO are Gears of War and Fable, but both can be had on PC. Alan Wake is the only other game I've owned and originally it was supposed to be PC exclusive (thanks M$) but it's not a system seller regardless. E3 was pretty indicative of the state of their franchises when the best they had to show was Halo anniversary and more Kinect failures. They have nothing and they know it.

To answer your question, no it's not worth buying a 360 now or ever.

Good call on Mass Effect, I totally spaced that that was a PC game as well, but the other series I listed specifically because there are one or more games that aren't available on PC. Namely, Gears 2 and 3, Fable II, and Halo 3 and Reach.

Don't know if you are making fun of me GUNNM but Lips is a sweet game. Singing games FTW! PS3 does have SingStar though which is a great franchise too.

Hey guys, why even have a website at all. You can google your own deals, why does anyone post anything here since there are other places to get it. God, this place would be so much better if there was not so much threadshitting.

Here's a thought, if you don't like these types of threads then don't read them. Novel idea, right?

No way, definitely not too late. You can score a TON of amazing games for $10 a piece. I got a PS2 3 years ago on a really good deal (free with rewards points) and bought some of the greatest games on that console. Have like, 40 games, and spent an average of $5 on them. Additionally, services like Xbox Live are going to carry over to the next console. I would highly recommend it.
At risk of going the fanboy route:

the entire Mass Effect series
GOW series
Halo series
Fable series (if that's your thing)
Alan Wake (the most underrated game I've ever played in my life)
Forza series (I hate racing games, but some people like them)
Existing Kinect games (Gunstringer, Fitness Games, Child of Eden) that offer unique interfaces done well, along with the potential from Kinect
Oh yah, another user reminded me, Splinter Cell series, including Conviction too. Great game.

I'm sure there are some XBLA exclusive too, but admittedly, I don't really keep track of the exclusives much. There are a couple of franchises I'd like to play on PS3 (Uncharted, Heavy Rain) (none on Wii), but there are more for me on Xbox. Just personal preference.

Speaking of personal preference, I despise the PS controllers. Have since the PSOne. The Xbox 360 is far and away my favorite controller of all time.

All IMO of course.

Splinter Cell: Conviction is a great reason to own an Xbox 360, in my opinion, one of the best games of 2010.

If you can get a 360 so cheap, and you want it, I say go for it. I have a PS3 too, and while I love it, I enjoy multiplayer better on the 360. Aside from retail, Xbox Live has some great exclusive games as well, like Shadow Complex, A World of Keflings, and the Twisted Pixel games. Plus, if you don't have a last gen system, the Xbox 360 has the ability to play a large library of original Xbox games that you can buy used on Amazon for dirt cheap.

But I do think the PS3 has better exclusives, especially the Uncharted and God of War series (a favorite of mine). But if you can afford both systems, I say go for it. Xbox has amazing exclusives as well.

If you decide to get one, I'd wait until Black Friday. Target is going to have the 4gb console for $139.99 as a doorbuster.

Asking people here if you should get a 360 is like asking us if you should buy a dog. We do not know your living arrangements or tastes in games and as such we can only give you our experiences and those would be based on the games we like. We cannot tell you if you should get an Xbox 360, only you can tell yourself that.

I would say yes you should get one as I like my Xbox but that is just MY opinion. If I were you I would do as Bossman pointed out and wait till BF to get one cheap.

There's not too much in the future that looks compelling for the 360 but there are many exclusive experiences that were some of the most memorable this generation (Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, Banjo: Nuts and Bolts, Tales of Vesperia, Forza series, Dead or Alive 4, Splinter Cell Conviction... Plus if you like DDR there were three 360 exclusives that were pretty damn good for the series.)

If you're a big fan of JRPGs then there are some pretty great games on the 360 for that genre.

Blue Dragon
Infinite Undiscovery
Lost Odyssey
Magna Carta II
Tales of Vesperia

Some other games that are exclusive but I've yet to play
Both Crackdown games
Dead Rising 1
Both Ninety Nine Nights
Both Naruto games (Well I played Broken Bond and I really enjoyed it personally)

In the end though, it's all personal preference. The games I listed probably appeal to 15% of the gaming population (if that) and would say I'm a fucking moron
I dont understand why people ask questions that are so readily available on google: how the hell should we know what will float your boat. how are we suppose to agree on games that are good or appealing for you. here are a list of exclusives that took me 10 seconds to track down:
If you have a ps3 and a gaming pc there's no real reason to buy a 360. The above poster saying he can go on for days about 360 exclusives is just silly. He named the 2 franchises that they have and they're both extremely mediocre.
I would consider that going on for days.:D

It really depends on if you want to play Gears of War, Halo, and Fable or the many XBLA games.

If not then I'd say it's not worth it.

The main drawing point of the 360 at this time in its life is its superior online system (party chat, ease of connecting with friends online, etc). If you don't have friends to play with online, the 360 pales in comparison to the PS3 (in both games and in function).

I use my PS3 for single player games and my 360 for multiplayer games and 3rd party non-exclusives (usually 360 version is superior).
And my Wii for... Zelda? :D Hell yeah zelda and mario baby!
Hey guys, why even have a website at all. You can google your own deals, why does anyone post anything here since there are other places to get it. God, this place would be so much better if there was not so much threadshitting.

Here's a thought, if you don't like these types of threads then don't read them. Novel idea, right?
Ironically, the guy you quoted, while bitchy, provided the most helpful info in the thread for me.

I'm finally planning to pick up a new 360 during Black Friday myself.
I've actually had a Japanese 360 since 2006, but I only picked it up because I found it used for ~$200 six months after it was released. I was able to play a few decent games (Dead Rising, Kameo, Lost Planet, Prey, & Naruto) but the majority of games I wanted to play were only released in the US and were region-locked.

I'm hoping to grab the 360/Kinect bundle for $199 @ Wal-Mart and put the free $50 gift card towards a bigger hard drive (once the 320GB is available on its own) or some games.

There are a TON of XBLA exclusives I want to play, plus some retail stuff:
-Halo 3, ODST, Reach, & Anniversary
-Alan Wake
-Raiden Fighters Jet & Raiden IV
-Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts n' Bolts
-Infinite Undiscovery
-Last Remnant
-Deadly Premonition
-Darkest of Days
-Earth Defense Force 2017
-Guilty Gear 2: Overture
-Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
-Otomedius
-a few Kinect games

I am writing this with a straight face, but Sneak King is another exclusive worth playing. I'm dead serious. There is nothing like it this generation. It will stay with you for years.

I am also in the same boat (have everything else but a 360). The only thing that keeps me looking at the 360 is its great shmup library. Like Gameboy415 said before me Raiden series, Otomedius, Deathsmiles, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, etc. I think I would wait though until the 360 can be had dirt cheap since I am already to busy playing everything else.

But I do think the PS3 has better exclusives, especially the Uncharted and God of War series (a favorite of mine). But if you can afford both systems, I say go for it. Xbox has amazing exclusives as well.
I think splinter cell convictions is also on the PC if i'm not mistaken

FYI: I've heard Transformers: War For Cybertron compared to Gears Of War repeatedly. That's on multiple platforms(including PS3/360). So to say there's NOTHING like GeOW on PS3 is a bit one sided, no?

As for 'needing' XBL to enjoy the system, online play is NOT the be all end all for gaming. A game(for me anyway) has to have a strong SINGLE PLAYER component first and foremost, otherwise I won't even bother with the game then.

What did you do 2-3 gens ago when there was NO online gaming? Serious question, not trying to be sarcastic or anything here. I just wanna know, since I used to enjoy playing games with friends via same room multiplayer last gen(PS2/Xbox/GC). I never bothered hooking up my PS2 for any of it's multiplayer titles or the original Xbox for it's XBL service.

Having played both War for Cybertron and Gears of War(all of em) I can say they have some similarities, but not as many as Uncharted does. Actually I think Vanquish comes closest but it has no multiplayer. Note that I highlighted the multiplayer component which is especially unique.

As far as what did I do 2-3 gens ago without multiplayer, well I still played it because I have been a PC gamer since I was a young one(ever play Doom on a modem? miss those times...), but console wise I love a lot of single player games. I still play a lot of PS2 games, I am about to clear Suikoden V actually. But to be honest strong single player isn't what I bought Halo or Gears for, both arguably the strongest exclusives for the system.

The point I was trying to make, was that if he has a PS3, why would I tell him to buy an xbox without XBL? I just can't recommend it for the single player component alone when he can buy most of the good single player games now with what he already has.

Gaming is different for everyone. I tend to not eschew anything because one feature or mode was highlighted over another(looking at you Battlefield 3) but even saying that, it's hard for me to tell someone to drop 150 bucks on a console and only get half the functionality out of almost every game that comes out. To me, it wouldn't be worth it, to you maybe it is. I respect your opinion.

Don't get me wrong. I play some games online(tons of GTA IV/Episodes), but I've always been a console gamer. I tried playing PC games back in 2001-2002 with GTA III or something similar and while it was fun and looked a bit better than my PS2 version I just couldn't get past the playing with a keyboard/mouse combo.

Now that there are so many PC controllers out there that mimic console controllers and vice versa I might give it another shot, but I'm also not too keen on the idea of paying more than $300 for a PC since I doubt I'd be playing much of the PC games.

But to each their own. I too respect your opinion, as it's nice to have a couple of differing views on things. Life would be too boring if everyone agreed all the time.;)

Get one there are plenty of games that can be had for under $20 now that you should play. Also if you have tech experience might be worth buying a rrod one on craiglist or something and fixing it up. I've always wanted to do that myself even though i have a perfectly working one. i too have a ps3 but i mostly use it just for ps3 exclusives and my video player. the 360 controller just feels better imo

If you know what you are doing, you can build a PC that will play most things for around that amount. It won't be high detail on everything but I built one for a friend last year for between 300-400 that he can run FFXIV on (yeah, I don't understand why he plays it either) That said if you can dump 1000 into it, you can max out a lot of games.

That said, even of you have an older or POS pc, you might find some pretty compelling fare at GOG.com, especially in the RPG front.

I actually use the 360 controller for a lot of games like the Witcher 2 and Dead Rising 2. You can use the wireless one with an attachment. If anyone has any aspirations of playing an FPS with a controller, just know you have got to be really, really good to keep up with kb/m because of the lack of precision.

Maybe it's a good thing not to have a PC too, having all the consoles plus a PC means I have a backlog that would make God weep.
I would consider that going on for days.:D
I would consider all those games terrible, maybe that's just me.
This. The experience is better, cheaper, and almost always available on PC. There's a very small fraction of games you wouldn't be able to play, which is exactly why I've never been interested in getting one.
I would consider all those games terrible, maybe that's just me.
Why bother being a fanboy for a console these days? Are you not able to afford a 360, so you have to vehemently defend your choice of a Sony console? All three consoles have worthwhile exclusives, to call every game on the list that was posted terrible is just ignorant.

To the OP, it is absolutely worthwhile to own a 360, PS3, and Wii. Lost Odyssey is a shining example of a great 360 exclusive RPG.

If you can afford the console and truly enjoy gaming, there really isn't a reason to not pick up a 360.

Do you have disposable income? Do the 360 exclusives appeal to you? We don't know if the next Microsoft console will have backwards compatibility, so if they do appeal to you, I don't think it would ever be too late to get one, especially considering how affordable they are nowadays.

Jesus Christ. Can you be more of an obnoxious fanboy?

His Gamescore must be crazy high if he has played every one of those games!

Seriously though, I thought being a fanboy was over.
Yes I prefer my Xbox's.
Yes, I own a PS3, because there are games on that system I enjoy too.
Oh and I have a Nintendo Handlheld because they make a great one.
And I will pick up a Wii again at about $100.

By being an unreasonable fanboy against a system, the only person who loses out is YOU on good games.

Played them? He probably didn't even look at the list.

xbox live is nice. but you already have a gaming rig. if you have a gaming rig, that negates most of the reason for getting xbox.

i like the controller, put i am pretty sure logitech makes decent controllers for the PC tho, similar to an xbox controller.

This is something i don't understand. I get that it is cheap to upgrade a PC(i did this about a month ago) by getting a better video card and power supply.
But how are you building a new system from scratch for 300$?

you would need a casing(maybe $50)
monitor $100
motherboard($100)
windows 7 ($100, if you can find a deal)
ram $40(should get you 8 gigs of ram)
hard drive $50(for a 1TB)
dvd drive $30(would be more if you want blue ray)
psu $25 after rebate (will get you a corsair 430 watt psu)
video card $60(would get you a sapphire 5670)
mouse/keyboard $10

I guess you could get a lot of these parts used off of ebay, but even if you get super nice used parts, that is sort of like wearing someone elses used gucci underwear. You can certainly get a good used casing and motherboard on the cheap. but things like windows 7, even if you are getting a deal, you will probably be paying 100$. ditto for a monitor

If you want to cheap out, get used parts off of ebay, that OK i can understand $300 for a new gaming rig.

yes, this is why i dont have a gaming pc. that and they use a lot of energy
