Not sure if this has been done before, but what are your top 10 favorite games of all time? Mine would be:

UPDATE 12/17: Mass Effect played.

UPDATE 12/17: Mass Effect placed at #4 spot. Yet to beat it, but when I do, I'm sure it will go to #1.

I put this list together and it was interesting to see what in retrospect I felt were my favorite games. I realized that I left out one game I spent thousands of hours on (World of Warcraft) and included one that I spent a very short amount of time on (Portal). I'm not even sure I can explain why I feel this way. Regardless:


(1) Chrono Trigger (best RPG in the history of the world)
(2) Knights of the Old Republic (2nd best RPG in the history of the world)
(3) Final Fantasy VII (3rd best... etc etc etc)
(4) Portal (short but such an unbelievablely perfect package in every way)
(5) Subspace/Continuum (by far the most fun CTF I have ever played for 7 years of my life)
(6) Deus Ex (dated now but way ahead of its time in terms of story telling and variety of gameplay for a FPS)
(7) Starcraft/Brood War (great single player. GREAT multiplayer.)
(8) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (greatest present anyone ever bought me)
(9) Tradewars 2002 (fantastic BBS game revolving around space exploration/trading/combat/terraforming/corporations/you-name-it)
(10) Kings Quest VI (one of my favorite memories as a kid was playing this game every day with all my free time for 2 weeks until I beat it)

Why do so many people have Jade Empire listed as one of their favorites? I love KotOR and Mass Effect but I thought Jade Empire was such a boring piece of shit that I had to quit about halfway through. Am I missing something?

I loved Jade Empire. I wouldn't list it in my top 10 favorites, but it's pretty up there for me. My only complaint was that it was too short.

Thats the problem with doing these lists... everytime I read other peoples posts/lists or just when I sit around thinking I remember there at least 25 other games that could have validly been on my list (Fallout 2 being one of them).

1.Earthbound-most amazing game I have ever played
2.FF7-10 hours in and Then the whole world opens up...just gets better every step of the way. Its almost painful to look at now but I remember being blown away when I saw it the first time.
3.Super Mario RPG-Like Earthbound quirky and colorful but not too simple or kiddy.
4.Deus Ex-Just ridiculously awesome fun RPG/Shooter. Do I swim under the baddies, hack through security, gun blaze or ninja snipe them with my suped up wrist crossbow with explosive/tranq/normal kill stuff darts? ok now im drooling.
5.Fallout 2- great combat, humor, perks, awesome v.o. can't wait for #3!

8. M.G.S. 1-I Every moment of that game was glorious. Not an ounce of filler(I really enjoyed the cutscenes so those don't count for me) The packaging was pretty sweet too.
9.Dungeon Keeper2- Bitch slapping Imps, smiting the minions of good, and enticing new monsters.
10.Tenchu 1-Great stealth ninja game play and on a side note, set the bar for disappointing sequels which has only ever been approached by every batman game after the first one for nes.

I never played KOTOR or Mass effect so I don't have those games to compare to Jade Empire (which made my top ten). I do have a sealed copy of KOTOR which I will bust out one day...

That statement almost made my mind explode. Please go play KotOR ASAP. If you like Bioware games you will love it. If you like Star Wars you will love it. If you like both then you will orgasm multiple times during your first playthrough and will probably cry in pain and joy at the same time upon its completion.

As much as I absolutely adored Fallout 1, Fallout 2 was that much bigger of a disappointment. It probably just comes down to taste, but I thought it lost a lot of the "magic" in the second iteration.
 
the only thing bad about KoTOR is the endings. they are weak as hell. after 40-some hours of gameplay one deserves some fleshed out endings w/ some cutscenes or something goddamn. :roll:
