Top Music Artists of All Time List (List Yours)

Jesus, where to start...

Led Zeppelin
Primus
Tom Waits
Bjork (BRING ON THE FLAMES!)
Neil Young
Fugazi
At the Drive-In
Beatles

That's the stuff that jumps to mind. Like many ohters have said though, I could never truly finish this list.

Time to give 'Bone Machine' another spin...
im now considered goth because of what i listen to.....ghey huh?
If there's one thing I love, it's associating an image to someone that is supposed to encompass their entire interest in music. I mean, it just makes so much sense. If someone listens to one style of music, then surely they aren't the least bit interested in any other style. (/sarcasm)

Beastie Boys
Beatles
Beethoven
Bob Dylan
Doors
Eminem
Led Zeppelin
Nine Inch Nails
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
Pixies
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine
Tool
Weezer

Kinda went from "Top Music Artist of All Time" to personal favorites there at the end. Yes, this is a different list, at least for me.

In no particular order these come to mind

Bob Marley
Beatie Boys
ACDC
RadioHead
NWA
Pink Floyd
Doors
Billy Idol
Depeche Mode
The Police
Guns N' Roses
Smashing Pumpkins
Tribe CAlled Quest
Outkast

Ok I am gonna have an odd mix, but the topic says best ARTISTS and that is a broad range.

1. EARTH, WIND and FIRE - Best blend of Jazz, R and B, and Soul to ever walk the Earth - there sound has never really been duplicated by anyone else. Great emotion in all their songs.

2. Vince Guaraldi Trio - Jazz (did alot of music on the Peanuts cartoons, great jazz group)

3. Mozart - most enjoyable classical artist IMO

4. Miles Davis - Trumpeteer Supreme

5. Queen - Best Rock group period.

evilpenguin9000 - Big points from me for including Miles Davis.
sblymnlcrymnl - Big points from me for including Beethoven
wookieballz - Word on Mozart
Captain Inertia - Excellent on Beethoven, Bach, Louis Armstrong and
Charlie Parker

I certainly hope there are more CAG like you guys who include jazz and classical in your lists. Much respect for that.

My top artists of all time:

These are a mix of my favorite and what I think are the most influential of all time:

Nirvana
The Beatles
Hendrix
Eric Clapton
Motown in general, though I personally prefer The Temptations
Nat King Cole. That man had a great voice
For classical music I prefer Bach

and I'm sure there's more I just can't think right now.

Miles is simply the man. I honestly feel bad for people who haven't heard Kind of Blue or Sketches of Spain.

Plus you've got to be a little diverse. I mean I am mostly into punk and alternative stuff, but if something sounds good I don't care what genre it is. I have over 1,000 cds and they encompass everything from baroque to art-noise with every step in between.

Of the older jazz i like Louis and Ray better.

Yeah, Miles himself was probably the most diverse musician I've ever heard. I might have picked him, because he was a major force in the evolution of many jazz styles and was responsible for breaking many great musicians into the business, but at the same time, he was never consistently a great trumpet player (although always a creative and expressive musician), and he also greatly contributed to jazz getting so fucking crazy that nobody could listen to it anymore unless copious amounts of hallucinogenic drugs were involved.

But then again, he should get major props for having one of the coolest music autobiographies ever written. Miles seriously puts today's hip-hop artists to shame when it comes to using profanity and vulgarity. Check it out if you get the chance.

But then again said:
Actually i have a copy of this I borrowed from a friend of mine years ago, but have never taken the time to read it. My friend told me a story about Charlie Parker getting a blowjob, eating fried chicken and tying off his arm for heroin all at the same time, while a young Miles was in the car. I think it was Charlie Parker. I could be wrong.

Whoever said that stereotypes are inaccurate is obviously an idiot.
