He held his own in In Bruges with Brendan Gleeson, who's a really strong lead. Sure, the movie overall was just okay, but he did well there. He was good in The New World. Pretty good (even with a hilarious Russian accent) in The Way Back. He managed to give a good (meaning believable) performance in Ondine, which is an otherwise bland, bullshitty movie. And I think he tried in Alexander, which is more than you can say for most everyone else involved (including Oliver Stone).
I know he's been in a lot of turds, especially shitty action movies. But anyone who's been in an action film is guilty of that, 90% of them are shit. I think he's a really underrated actor, unlike most actors who can manage if given good material, he can do something even with bad material.
I was going to see this remake even though I thought the remake was a bad idea. I mean, Colin Farrell AND Bryan Cranston? But it sounds like people really, really hate it. Waiting until it hits netflix.
