Tower Records video game clearence sale

Scahom1

CAGiversary!
Hey guys, just got back from my local Tower Records. Apparently the company is no longer selling video games, as their entire inventory is on clearence sale. Some great deals to be found...

XBOX 1st party controllers: $15
PS2 1st party controllers: $12
XBOX DVD remote: $10
wireless dance mats $10

NEW Gamecube $70!!!
GBA (not SP) $50

As for games, a ton of them are on sale for $9.99. Among the ones I remember...

007: Nightfire
007: Everything or Nothing
Balders Gate 2
Castlevania
. Hack #1
Enter The Matrix
Prince of Persia
Rainbow Six 3
Rachet & Clank 2
XIII
TMNT
Metroid Prime
The Thing
SW: KOTOR
SW: Jedi Outcast
Otogi
The Suffering
Driv3r ($30)
GTA double pack (XBOX, $30)

This is certainly exclusive to certain markets, since the manager told me all the stores in the CT area sent their inventory to my local store.

EDIT: Store locator...http://www.towerrecords.com/stores/default.asp
none of the los angeles stores carry video games (closest is sherman oaks)
Yeah I called today and that was the only one that said they carried games. The girl said they had a few when I asked if they had video games, so not sure what exactly that means.

theirs one an hr from me and one an hr and a half from me...those are the only 2 in md...ive decided that its just not worth it....if they definitely had a few of those games, it would be...but most likely, they wont have jack

Day 2 at Schaumburg, IL report:

Yesterday the sale was not happening, and today, it's on!

They moved all the games to the back of the store, behind the DVDs, and it seems to me that they got a lot more stock on display. It's a very impressive quantity, especially for a music store.

I picked up:
Myst III Exile (Xbox) 9.99
Soul Caliber II (Xbox) 9.99
No One Lives Forever (PS2) 9.99
The Suffering (Xbox) 9.99
Silent Hill 2 (Xbox) 9.99 -- non-Greatest Hits version!
DDR Ultramix bundle (game + pad) (Xbox) 29.99
Gamecube Grey Wavebird 14.99

There were mostly popular/common games available, but a fair quantity of them were only reduced to 19.99 or 29.99 -- mostly the newer and EA-branded games.

Between the CC sale, the TRU sale, and this sale, I think I ran out of games to buy. Thank god the holiday season is approaching!

holy shit dude.. i would gladly pay someone to pick me up one of those ddr sets.. the only thing is i dunno how much it costs to ship :whistle2:\ i want one SOO bad tho

Was also at the Schaumburg location tonight... heads up for Chicago CAGers, this is the only place with games (the other Tower Records in the area sent their stock here.) As of now, they've got quite a large selection including a bunch of green/blue S controllers for $14.99. Picked a few up along with the last DVD kit and DDR w/pad.

I hit my Tower Records store today. The section wasn"t bad, only about filled up six "racks." The list that flaprabbit posted a few posts up were pretty much there. I picked up about four games (the 5th was the wrong one, I wasn't thinking). My favorite purchase was the DDR Ultramix 1, which I've been wanting. Chronicles of Riddick was like $30, and most of the games were pretty much $9.99. Some 3rd party controllers with xbox and ps2, first party gamecube controllers, ps2 memory cards. All three consoles had about the same sized collection, but it was picked at a bit. No gamecubes or bundles at all.

deathcabforcutie, I got my quasi-ddr bundle (xbox) for $40. A generic pad was $19.99 at GameStop, and the DDR Ultramix game was $19.99 at Tower Records. You just gotta buy separate, cause I never found a ddr xbox bundle at the TRU sale, or anywhere else.

Looking for some $9.99 love on the following:

Xbox:
TMNT *****
007: Everything or Nothing
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II

Will pay S&H + tax + whatever you think your time is worth.

(EDIT) Remove Jedi Academy from want list.

Lol, I did! On Tower Records' website, they have the following stores listed: http://www.towerrecords.com/stores/default.asp?urlid=9fc3bb8f95163a5d02ff. They don't have their Birmingham store listed!!! It must be the black sheep of the family...
Sweet deal. I hit up the Fairfax Tower and picked up (all Xbox and all $10)

Prince of Persia - a few left
The Suffering - got the last one
Freedom Fighters - one left
Otogi - a few left
Armed and Dangerous - got last one
Fallout: BOS - got last one
Buffy (the first one) - a few left

They had a few other titles mixed in which didn't interest me - 007 Nightfire, Hobbit, Turok, etc. Links 2004 was in the bin, but it was marked $20, plus I'm probably going to get TW 2005 in a few weeks so I didn't bother.

They didn't have any first party controllers that I saw. They had some 3rd party Xbox controllers marked at $10. Didn't really look all that closely at them.

For PS2 I saw Maximo: Ghosts (not Army of Zin) and for GC I saw Starfox Adventures. Those are the only ones I remember but they do have other titles in the bin.

As I was grabbing game after game I realized what it must have been like to be one of the fortunate CAGers who got to the $5 CC sale before all the CCs were picked clean. (I was out of town for the 4th when that sale hit.)

Update: Forgot to mention that I picked up Silent Hill 2 as well (last one)
Ahhhhh a fellow Virginian! Thanks for the post! I might head out there within the next week, once I'm not so swamped with school.

Anyone know if the Tyson's Corner or Alexandria stores carry games?

I'm wondering that as well. I'd love to pick up a PS2 copy of PoP for 10 dollars.

Tower Records has consolidated their game clearances to the San Mateo store; for the Bay Area, CA region. Still a good selection of items for all three consoles. Happy Hunting!

Hey Wubb, which Tower in Fairfax, VA did you go to. I went to the one on West Ox Road near route 50. This is what I got:

Ratchet and Clank 2 (PS2) $9.99
Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) $14.99 I was surpised to find this because I haven't seen it any where for a while.
Otogi (Xbox) $9.99
Freedom Fighters (Xbox) $9.99
Prince of Persia (Xbox) $9.99
Splinter Cell (Xbox PH) $9.99

I had to stop because it was starting to get expensive but damn these were some good deals on great games. I passed on LOTR: The Two Towers (Xbox) and GTA:III (GH PS2) both at $9.99. I was going to give GTA:III as a gift for a friend but I rather get him Vice City at BB for $14.99 with GGC.

Wubb, since you are in NOVA also we should inform each other of any CAG deals we come across.

That's the only Tower Records in Fairfax. :) Yeah I thought about grabbing the Two Towers as well now that you mention it, but like you said it was quickly becoming very expensive.

I'll try to remember to give you the heads up if I come across anything good in our neck of the woods :)

And you should play Splinter Cell NOW. I love that game.
Anyone know if the Tyson's Corner or Alexandria stores carry games?
Give them a call and ask. That's what I did for the Fairfax store before heading over. I didn't bother checking those as I got (for me) a crapload of games in Fairfax.

I made out huge tonight at the Tower in Sherman Oaks, CA. The employee was surprised at the prices (especially the PS2/dual shock) as he started ringing everything up, but all prices were marked. I definitely spent way too much but I couldn't resist, this site is really killing me. Here is my haul.

PS2 system $99.99 (last one I think)
PS2 Dual Shock $12.99 (1 emerald green left I think)
PS2 1st party 8mb memory card $14.99 (last one I think)

GCN Ghost Recon-> $9.99 (1 left?)
GCN Animal Crossing (non-PC :shock: Didn't realize non-pc still existed)-> $14.99 (1 left)
GCN Red Faction 2-> $9.99

XBOX Otogi Myth of Demons-> $9.99 (got last one I think)
XBOX Vexx-> $9.99
XBOX Toe Jam & Earl 3-> $9.99
XBOX Spy Hunter 2-> $9.99 (bunch left)

Other games there too, I thought I bought some that it looks like I left. Here is what I remember.

GCN BMX XXX -> $7.99 (bunch left)
GCN Skies of Arcadia Legends-> $19.99 (bunch left)
GCN Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes-> $19.99 (few left)
GCN Legends of Wrestling-> $9.99 (1 left)
GCN True Crime (non-pc)-> $24.99 (bunch left)
GCN Baldur's Gate DA-> $can't remember (1 left)

XBOX Splinter Cell -> $9.99 (few left)
XBOX Driv3r-> $29.99 (few left)
XBOX Spiderman 2-> $34.99 (1 left)
XBOX Full Spectrum Warrior $19.99 or $29.99 can't remember. (2 left?)

There was a bunch of Hobbits for $9.99 but I can't remember what system.
There was a lot more games but thats all I can remember right now, some games are still over MSRP even with there sale price like True Crime.

Hey guys from Virginia:

Hey Nolberto, glad to see another NOVA CAGer. I picked up that last comy of Dark Cloud 2 for $14.99. Thank you for leaving me a copy :D

Also, last night they had one copy of Silent Hill 2 left but it's the PH edition. There's still one copy of Metal Gear Substance for Xbox left. I got the last copy of Slinter Cell (PH), Freedom

Anyway, in my rush to buy games last night and be home before Football started I did not check any of the prices of the controllers or accessories. Wub, mentioned that they had some 3rd party Xbox controllers. I did not see any first party Xbox controllers. But I did not check to see if they had any Sony Dual Shock 2's in stock because I think those are going for $12.99.

Anyway, I'll try to scout out the Tyson's Tower this weekend but I assume that if they had anything it's probably long gone by now.

I called the Alexandria Towers... no games... they said to check the Fairfax one. I also called the Rockville Tower.. also no games.. I didn't bother calling Annapolis since it's so far out...

OT:
We should start a NoVA/DC metro area B&M deals thread... it would have been nice to have one for the 50% off TRU and $5 CC games deals.. I ended up driving to several local TRUs myself....

I just went to the Tower Records in Stonestown (San Francisco), and I didn't check if they sold games or not. Looks like I gotta go back now.
I'm hoping to check out Tysons this afternoon. Nothing on the list looked too exciting, but you never know when a surprise will show!
Let us know what you find, if you please. I just haven't had the time to go, although I probably could after work today if there's anything left to even make it worth looking. Thanks!

For the NOVA folks...I just called the Vienna/Tysons store, they said they don't carry games anymore. The person I spoke to suggested trying Fairfax.

I went back to the Long Beach, Ca Tower and only found a Metroid Prime, but then the guy told me they had games in the back. So I asked him for several titles and he came back with:

Prince of Persia PS2
Prince of Persia Xbox
Prince of Persia GC (plastic was ripped)
Otogi Xbox
007 Everything or Nothing Xbox
Soul Calibur II Xbox
Skies of Arcadia Legends GC

All of them were $9.99 except for Skies that was $19.99. They also had another PS2 console, but it was shipped defective from another Tower. The guy said he would test it and if it worked then they would sell it open box $99.99. So any Socal people want a PS2 for $100 might want to check it out.

For thos in NoVa, I'll try to remember what was still left at the Fairfax Tower.
I think they had:
Star Wars Jedi Academy (Xbox)
Metal Gear Substance (Xbox)
Silent Hill 2 (PH Xbox)
Spy Hunter II (Xbox)
Otogi (Xbox)
Freedom Fighters (Xbox)
Dragon's Lair (Xbox)
Jedi StarFighter (Xbox)
NHL 2003 (Xbox) for $5.99
Maximo (PS2)
GTAIII (PS2)
Ace Combat 4 (PS2)
Namco Collection (PS2)
Eternal Darkness (GC)
BMX XXX (GC)
Spy Hunter (All Systems)
Hobbit (All Systems)

And yes we should definitely start a MD/ Wash. D.C./ NoVa thread for all of us CAGers in the Metro Area. Maybe we can have it in the request a deal section on this site.

007 Nightfire (GC)
Dead to Rights (PS2)
Devil May Cry
LOTR Two Towers (GC)
Starfox Adventures
Splinter Cell (PS2, $20)
Vexx (GC)
Crash Bandicoot (GC?)

Nothing too spectacular. I was hoping for Metroid or Ratchet.

Thanks for the list guys! I'm stopping by Tower tomorrow to check what they have. Anybody notice Prince of Persia there, or do they not carry it?

If you don't see it on the shelf ask if they have it in back. I did and they had a copy for each system.

I picked up a copy of Prince of Persia for Xbox but I'm not sure if it was the last copy. I was hoping to find Castlevania LOI for PS2 but I didn't see it.

Ok question. Is everyone seeing halfway old games for this overall? Based upon games it looks like it kinda. Like no fairly recent 3-4 month old games.
My requests(if anyone finds them):
Starfox Adventures(NON-PC edition. If it's PC I'm not interested.).
Super Monkey Ball(the same terms apply here)
Fallout XBox

I appreciate the help of people.

All 4 Towers in Manhattan are not even selling games, they probably cleared them all out already or never sold games to begin with.
Just giving a heads up to those in the NY area. damn my feet are hurting from this trip.

Atlanta Tower had Prince of Persia (Xbox and Gamecube versions) and The Hobbit (Xbox) and Def Jam Vendetta (PS2) when I was just there tonight. all $9.99 each
