Stopped in my local Sam Goody today and saw this deal there.

Xbox360- Trade in any 2 360 games and get a new 360 game for free.
PS2/Xbox/GC/PSP/DS- Trade in any 4 games and get a new game for free.

Restrictions: Can't mix and match (ie- trade 2 PS2 games and 2 Xbox games and you can't trade 4 Xbox games and get a PS2 game). New game must be 39.99 or less (44.99 or less for 360). Anything that trades in for a penny in their system is ineligible (any sports 2003 or before + a few other titles).

End date: Sept 10th (but some places are honoring it til the end of September)

Notes: The lady mentioned that this was good at all sister stores (Wherehouse, Strawberries, FYE, Coconuts, etc.). Even if your particular store doesn't carry used games, they will still accept them and then transfer them to other stores.

Since there are basically no restrictions, you should be able to bring in any 4 crap games and get a brand new game for them. I will try and answer any questions as best I can. Have at it and enjoy it while it lasts.

PS- I found (and tested) this at the Sam Goody at the Parkway Plaza mall in El Cajon.

I wouldn't say 360 games are plummetinig in price..The deals you got on DR, NCAA and Saint's Row were for various deals that are store related, not 360 related. The prices of these games are still at the full MSRP, you just were able to take advantage of some good store deals. The others, besides TR:Legend, were launch games that came out about 9 months ago. They should be dropping.
 
OK, I need someone to tell me if this is smart... ( ah fuck it, it's genius. Well, if it'll work. So I guess I'm asking if this will work :p)

Anyway, here's the plan:

1. Call FYE and see if they are doing the deal
2. Go to EB/GS, write a list of all the cheapest games I can possibly find
3. Go to FYE, see if they'll accept them
4. Go back to Eb/GS (same mall) and get which ones I can
5. Hope the FYE employee's aren't very smart
6. Trade four ~$2.50 games for DoC FFVII (Yeah, I've heard the downs... but for ~$10 it's worth it IMO)
7. Trade 12 ~$2.50 games for 3 $50.00 games and ask for gift reciepts
8. Trade in 12 more for 3 more $50.00 games
9. Return 3 of the 6 $50.00 games to FYE for $150 credit towards a DS Lite and a game
10. Trade the other 3 $50.00 games for ~$100 credit at EB (or $110 if they have that extra $10 deal) towards two FFXII LE's


...Will that work? I think it's an awesome deal... DS Lite, DS game, DoCFFVII, and 2X FFXII LE's for ~$70... w0000t.

But something tells me it won't even work. Will I be able to return the 3 $50.00 games to FYE? Will I even find 28 eligible games for ~$2.50?

I sure hope this works... I'll go try it tomorrow.
 
careful if you do it too much, they do ask for all ur info and keep a record for all the stores you do it in.

it 1. kills the deal for all the ppl who arent going to milk it like you, because if you trade in too much of the same thing that game is unbuyable.

2. they will see what you did and ask you to leave, or leave a note on your info. everytime you trade they will ask for ur id/drivers license, phone number and have a list of everything you traded at every store if they catch on.

as for the getting a 50 dollar game its ymmv, the first time I did it I got ff7 DoC (i personally like the game) but today when I went back for Monster Hunter psp they said only 39.99. im only gunna do it one more time tues to get xenosaga 3 if they get it in.

So its All up to chance

Man I really want Disgaea 2 is there a consensus on which store will let you use it as credit towards a $50 game and also might have a less mainstream title?
 
hmm, well DoC FFVII cost 49.99 here so I ended up paying the diff. of 9.99 and tax on this game. Were some of you able to get this game for free or just pay the tax?
 
Got Saints Row for Madden 06 (GS 14.99-10%) and Ridge Racer 6 (14.99 at GR) plus 15 bucks for the difference. Not bad.
 
I tried the 4-for-1 at a local FYE today and came up empty. I took 8 games and neither of the girls working would accept 7 of them due to "scratches". I'd describe those games as being in very good condition, maybe a small scratch or 2 on each. I guess I'll try another store tomorrow. It's unbelievable how picky they were with the games I took in today.

Wow, I go away for 2 days come back and find probably the biggest deal I've seen so far? Awesome. Seeing that I don't have a ps2, xbox, or 360, what are some of the recent GC games to pick up? The only one I can think of at the moment is Mario Strikers. Any other reccomendations?

Hoestly, lately GC releases have been complete garbage with the exception of Madden 07. But Mario Baseball, Super Mario Strikers, Mario Party 7 w/ Mic, all are good games that still have high MSRP's, so you would still be getting a good deal.
 
I tried to do tis but no go. For some reason the flyers and signs here exclude xbox games, and the store I went to said no dupes. I had 2 copies of MK: Deception for Ps2, 3 copies of MVP 2006 for xbox, NCaa 2k6 for Xbox, and something else .. all new sealed. Nada for me.

Gonna have to sit this out I think... not enough stockpile right now....or I should say not enough cheap fodder in the stock pile...
 
xbox games games arent part of the deal. why I really have no idea since 360 is there. its funny the store manager just gave me FF7 DoC without me paying anything. while a regular worker just said anything 39.99 would work only.
 
Believe it or not, after my buddy traded in his two 360 games the other day Sam Goody is now no longer taking trade ins for this deal, but will still take them for regular credit. Ridiculous.

FYE is the epitome of YMMV. I've had to pay tax and been restricted to 39.99 and 26.99. Though its a good deal so not complaining.

I traded in 4 games at a coconuts today and was not charged tax on my copy of Tekken Dark Resurrection.

My FYE got an E-mail either last night or today which specifically said "be picky about value of trades" (as quoted to me by the employee).

UPDATE ON DEAL END DATE: verified it will end on the 11th at the latest. Don't wait for Lego SWII to come out, it will probably be over by then. Just trade now and exchange later.

no you don't.... traded in RR6 and PDZ for total of 25.00 trade credit...CSR raised the credit amount by 40.01 to completely cover the 65.01 cost of dead rising
 
So has anyone had luck with preorders?

Also, I plan to go in later this week to exchange older games for Yakuza. But I'm curious since FYE employees seem so picky about the conditions of the games. I have some new games I bought specifically to trade in. One guy said he got a bonus amount for his sealed game, someone else said they don't take sealed games. Which is it? I don't care much about the bonus, but I assume they can't be picky about the game's condition if it's new and sealed.

I paid my tax and was old of there.

It did cost you tax ... you just found a store nice / stupid enough to include it in the store credit. That explains why you're 59.99 game cost 65.01 in the end ...

They're suppose to take the game you want and divide the price by 4 ... then each game you trade in would be worth that price.

ie. A 50$ game would be 12.50 when divided up ... each trade in is worth 12.50 now. Still doesn't cover the tax it would normally cost.

But in the process of checking the discs the Manager cracked my Power Drome disc. The disc was brand new (I unwrapped it this morning) but it was in a non-standard PS2 case (I put it in an old case to keep the new one for me). The guy was struggling with it and I saw him bend the disc severely. Then he says "This one has a crack!" Needless to say I was livid. He refused to admit he did it and would do nothing for me. I went to my car and got another new disc to replace it. Well this just amazed him that I would have multiple copies and this solidified that I was trying to scam. Another employee there, a real winner, commented how he saw it all and there is no way the Mgr could have done it, he said "the chances of him cracking it is like winning the lottery twice in one day!" fucking moron.

If the guy would have apologized I probably would have blown it off since it isn't worth anything. But the fact that he out right refused that he did it and there was NO way he could have done it really set me off. On principle I called the DM and have yet to receive a call back.

Holay sheeyat, that's insane. I haven't even been to FYE to do this yet (come to think of it... I've never bought anything at FYE before) but now it seems like my master plan has no chance in hell of working. Dammit... seems like all FYE employees are fuckin' morons.

At one store, they claimed they were not taking trade-ins yesterday because it was Labor Day. At another store, they gave me this bs about how they couldn't take my games because they were "junky" and wouldn't be able to resell them, despite them first checking to see if they were a penny (which they weren't). it's always a struggle at this place.

I tried to trade in 4 crap movies, for the DVD deal, last night, to get the Matrix 10-disc boxed set with the bust of Neo, but they'd wisened up, apparantly, and he said he couldn't give out boxed sets for the trade (said, that a 2-disc set was as much as he could go). He didn't mention a price limit, though, so I figured I could still get a dcently priced DVD, but decided on Eddie Izzard's "Dressed to Kill," even though it was only $20, but he wouldn't accept 3 of the 4 movies I brought in so it was all for naught.

ANYWAYS, I'd also brought Twin Snakes, and Beyond Good and Evil to use as trade-ins, but decided I could get more bang for my buck, if I traded those 2 into EB, got the $15 in-store credit, and used that to buy 4 crap games. One of them was, unfortunately, a "not for resale" one, and Sam Goody wouldn't take it, so I exchanged it at EB for a used Project Eden. I'm going back again, today or tomarrow, to bring this 4 games in and trade them for Time Crisis 3. I think I'll also see if I can trade those movies Sam Goody wouldn't take into EB, to get enough credit to get another 4 crap games, to pick up Blood Money at SG :whistle2:D

It seems to me that the other franchises are starting to get memos about the restrictions. I traded 8 ps2 in yesterday at a Sam Goody and received Kingdom Hearts 2 and Madden 07. The manager called another Sam Goody to verify the offer. FYE has received the actual promotion cards and info, so if you are going to try to get anything over what the restrictions are, good luck. As I said before, your best bet is Sam Goody or any other franchise.

Traded in RTX, MDK2, NCAA March Madness 05 and Future Tactics, all for PS2 for a sealed Dance Factory. They made me stay in the 39.99 price range though, which is ok, because I will return DF for Okami when that comes out.

Total trade in value of the 4 games: 4.51.

MDK2 rang up a penny in the system but they took it anyways. :D

Edit - This was @ FYE. The guy was very helpful, but very strict on what he thought the restrictions to be. I tried to get a 39.99 PSP game and he shot that down. :(

Another Edit - Don't know if it matters to anyone or not, but a friend of mine was going the 360 trade in deal and Madden 06 rang up for only 10 dollars normally, down from what other people were getting previously I believe. Need for Speed rang up for 20 bucks normally.
 
Does anyone know when FYE will get Yakuza? Their website says the 7th, but when I called the store to confirm, I got,

"What game?"
"Yakuza."
"What system?"
"PS2."

That sounds about right. The employees have NO information about anything. It's really not their fault. They've had a big sign that says "preorder Star Wars Unaltered DVD today!" for about a month, but they still can't tell me what the MSRP is for it yet.

BTW, it looks like Yakuza is $49.99 MSRP. Good luck trying to get it at FYE with this deal...
