Stopped in my local Sam Goody today and saw this deal there.

Xbox360- Trade in any 2 360 games and get a new 360 game for free.
PS2/Xbox/GC/PSP/DS- Trade in any 4 games and get a new game for free.

Restrictions: Can't mix and match (ie- trade 2 PS2 games and 2 Xbox games and you can't trade 4 Xbox games and get a PS2 game). New game must be 39.99 or less (44.99 or less for 360). Anything that trades in for a penny in their system is ineligible (any sports 2003 or before + a few other titles).

End date: Sept 10th (but some places are honoring it til the end of September)

Notes: The lady mentioned that this was good at all sister stores (Wherehouse, Strawberries, FYE, Coconuts, etc.). Even if your particular store doesn't carry used games, they will still accept them and then transfer them to other stores.

Since there are basically no restrictions, you should be able to bring in any 4 crap games and get a brand new game for them. I will try and answer any questions as best I can. Have at it and enjoy it while it lasts.

PS- I found (and tested) this at the Sam Goody at the Parkway Plaza mall in El Cajon.
So has anyone had luck with preorders?
I had some luck with a preorder, but I'd say it was a complete fluke.

They told me I could trade in 4 PS2 games to preorder a PS2 game coming out soon. There was much difficulty even finding a way to preorder it in their system, but eventually they found it. So they did the trade-in for $40 and put it on a merchandise card. Then they tried to use the $40 card for the preorder, but the computer wouldn't allow a merchandise card to be used for a preorder, so they just took down my info and said they'd call when it came in, and let me walk out with a $40 merchandise card.

I visited a second FYE, and was told they would not do preorders, only for stuff in stock.

They limited my trade-in value to $40 for PS2 and $45 for Xbox 360, I had to pay tax on what I bought, and could get stuff over the limit if I paid the difference.

Which FYE's were these?

For those people in the San Diego area who tried the Sam Goody in El Cajon, but aren't going back because there's nothing left... go to the one in Fashion Valley. I just hit them for KH2 (Sunday), Tales of Legendia (today), & Atelier Iris 2 (today). They still have a few good titles for PS2 (no more KH2 or Atelier Iris 2 though) and Xbox360.
Suncoast should be a sister store. I know they were a few years ago, and I don't see why they'd split off.

Anyways, I just got back form the mall, and I made off like a bandit.
The story:
Sam Goody and EB are right next to eachother in my mall (convenience). I went into EB and picked up 4 $2 used sports games, plus a new copy of Max Payne 2, while I was there; totaly cost: $10, plus tax. I painstakingly pealed all the stickers off of the used games games, then made over to Sam Goody. All 4 of the sports games were rejected, but the manager there was pretty nice, and said I should try back with some other games.
I went back over to EB and exchanged the sports games for 2 more new copies of Max Payne and 2 copies of Powerdrome, all $1.99. I went back, and not only were they accepted, but the guy offered to give me extra trade-in, because the copy of Max Payne was new (they were both new, but one was the display model). So, I got Capcom Fighting Evolution, as well as a $12.71 gift card, for what was apparantly the left-over value of my trade.

Anyways, the bottom line is...

Money payed: $10.81
CAW swag: Capcom Fighting Evolution, Max Payne 2, and a $12.71 Sam Goody Gift card.

If you count gift cards as cash, I actually made money in this deal. Woot! :whistle2:D
Please GOD tell me this was at Parkway Plaza?

do you know if the one in el cajon has saints row?

thanks. you saved me the drive. Looks like ill probably won't be in on this deal since thats the only game I want.
Please GOD tell me this was at Parkway Plaza?
No, it was at Spokane Valley. Where is Parkway Plaza?

at the local fye there is no new release aside from madden and ncaa. Which is too bad since I got games they are willing to accept.

The beauty of this deal, which I haven't really seen spelled out here, is that you can do this trade in for a $40 game and then return the $40 game to another store for either another game or credit. I actually just did this today, since I had traded in for 3 games from various FYEs that I didn't really need. Now I have $130+ in credit for them. This isn't really YMMV either, since you should have a receipt that shows you paying for the $40 game.

BTW, it looks like Yakuza is $49.99 MSRP. Good luck trying to get it at FYE with this deal...

I know some FYE's are really strict about $40 games only. I don't have any problem paying the difference, though. Still wondering whether or not to bring my games in sealed or not since FYE seems to be so picky.

My FYE wouldn't let me take a $50 game and pay the difference so I'm thinking about just returning one of the games I got for store credit and picking something up that way.

Same here - My FYE was really strict
I could only get a game that was REGULARLY priced at $39.99 or less. (None of the sale games would work.)

Same with DVD's - had to be regularly priced $26.99 or less.

They also would not let me pay the difference. :)

But it is ok. I got decent stuff.

Matthew

Sorry, but does anyone have any experience with any of the FYE stores in New York city? I was considering going in, but they are both pretty strick last I went there. Thanks!!

MY FYE didn't even have a new gamecube games for over $19.99. It was like they got cleared out just in time for this deal. Weird right?

Yeah, I was told the same thing today. This may change this deal for me completely...

I stopped at Spring Hill Mall (West Dundee) and Stratford Square Mall (Bloomingdale). Apparently there is a new store in Woodfield that has been open about 5 days, but over the phone they said they were taking trade-ins, but were not participating in this deal, so YMMV at that store.

Which one of those let you pre-order?

Son of a motherfucking lawyer. I went in yesterday and asked them about all the restrictions and all. They brought out an email that stated that I could trade in any 4 PS2 games for a DS, Gamecube, PS2, or GBA. I even looked over the page that they were looking at and there were no restrictions on anything basically. So I went over to gamestop, got 4 games for around $10, then went back over and got Resident Evil 4. I went home happy especially with the really cool employees.

I go in today, after scavanging for 12 really cheap games to trade in for KH2, Black, and Tales of Legendia. I found a couple, and since I remembered that there was no restriction, I picked up a couple sports games as well. So I peel off all the stickers and go into the store with them. There were 2 new people there and I tell them that I was there yesterday and filled them in. The MANAGER had no idea about it so she went and called the Everett store to get all the details. So she came back and started ringing up all the games. After ringing up all of them, she hands me back 2 of them and says that she doesn't take doubles, and they were slightly scratched. I shrug and say alright, well, I'll just take 2 games for now and she starts going through all the games I'd given to her again. She then proceeds to tell me that it's going to be a straight trade-in deal, where I can only get the brand new game for the value of the games traded in. I try to explain to her that that isn't how it happened last night and start to argue with her. I try to reason with her saying how that isn't a deal at all as how she would be doing it would just be a normal transaction.

So, she finally said that the people that I'd dealt with yesterday would be in tomorrow and I could do the transaction with them then. However, I'm sure that she'll tell them to refuse me service which is bullshit.

in San Diego, CA. Also has a EB RIGHT next to Sam Goody.

I called the Sam Goody in Fashion Valley (SD CA) they have Saints Row available, going there right now to pick one up.

EDIT: Didn't go down >.<

Apparently they only use the credit towards the new game, they don't give it to you free so...that's pretty upsetting...

geeze, I went into the W. Laffayette FYE yesterday after getting some cheap games from GS. I go in, and all 8 of my games work fine for the deal. I didn't see anything I wanted that was there (they wouldn't let me pay the dif. on KH 2) but they let me special order Suikoden 5 and made sure I would be able to do the trade when it came in.

I got a call just now saying that for some unknown reason, the store wasn't going to be able to get the game in... :(

I had the same problem with them telling me it had to be straight trade in not 4 for 1. I called their corporate offices and left a message on their answering machine. Today i got a call from the store saying that there are restrictions but the corporate office instructed them to take my trade in. I am going to go in tomorrow and try again after the phone call. They were also being extremely picky about games at my store, in one case i had a perfect condition ps2 maximo game and they said they couldnt even take it because there was a sticker on the back which said i bought it used, there was not one scratch on the game.

BTW this store is Freehold Nj

I was lucky today. The Coconuts (Lansing,IL) store told me my games and DVD's were not in good condition even the ones still wrapped. The FYE in River Oaks was completely different. I was the first one to do the trade in deal, and they accepted every thing I had. So:

8 Mile
The Transporter
Gundam seed V.2
Dragon Ball GT Movie
Ridge Racer DS
Harry Potter and The chamber of Secrets (GC)
Max Payne 2
Duel Masters

for The Venture bros and Tekken DR.

May try again for the Tick S1.

The Gravy Train has stopped at the Spokane Valley Mall. I went in, today, with 4 games I got from EB (All ringing up for atleast $2 trade), and they wouldn't let me trade them for Time Crisis 3, saying they owuld just take them as a straight trade, not a 4for1

I traded in Kameo and Ridge Racer 6 for Dead Rising with no problems. There's even a $10 rebate! I'm not destroying the insert for ten dollars, though.

The FYE at Southpoint Mall in Durham, NC took all my games, didn't refuse any because of scratches and let me pay an extra $10 to get a $49.99 game. I would highly recommend checking that store out if you're in the area and looking to get in on this deal. They also have the best selection of games I've seen at an FYE. I got FFVII: DOC for myself and 3 other $39.99 games to exchange in the next couple of weeks.

LakeForest MD:
Today I just traded two copies of Ridge Racer 6 for Dead Rising (got both copies at Best Buy = $30+tax), and I got Yakuza with DBZ Budokai 2, The Sims, Capcoms Classics, and MegaMan X7. I only paid for the tax left over from both games. The Manager (who was taking care of me the whole time) wouldn't accept TimeSplitters (1 penny) or Jampacks.

The really cool guy the day before said he'd accept the Jampacks (as long as they ring up for more than a penny, which one did).

Edit:
Also, I don't see how they would take the games back as store credit, when it lists out the used games I traded in right on the receipt. Also, the manager rang me up differently than the guy before. The receipt now shows the true value of each item, and then he manually adds on the difference to cover the game, as opposed to before the games equally splitting up the cost of the game.

I was able to trade Madden 06 and NHL 2K6 for Ninety-Nine Nights today. Don't laugh — it was the only game worth getting that they had in stock. I mainly wanted to get rid of those old, worthless sports titles.

you don't have to destroy the insert...all you have to send in is the rebate form, the receipt and the pricetag that was on the shrinkwrap. if there was no pricetag they can reprint it for you at the checkout area...that is what they did for me

Well I tried to return one of my $40 games to another FYE today for credit and they gave me a real hard time. I was finally able to do it, but the called the store I bought it from for some reason and I had to read their own return policy to them a number of times before she gave in.

It says original UPC code, though. Though, the code does match the one that's on the shrink wrap.

Damn. The 4 games I don't want, are on a system I don't have (GC). You guys think I can do the deal, return the game later, and get a PS2 game of equal value or is the reciept very specific of the deal?

I traded 1 GC and 3 PS2 games for 1 PSP.

if you are planning to go to the newark mall fye, dont bother. There isnt a single $50 or even $40 GC game. If you are going for ps2 games the only new release they have are madden and ncaa and like 1 copy of KH2.

Your FYE already got Yakuza in? I'm going back there tomorrow then. Might as well try the Jam Pack, too.

Today might be a good day to work on this deal if your stores are like mine in KC...the Werehouse and Sam Goody ONLY get new stuff on Thursdays...that is the restock day, if you go in there they have crap everywhere.

Hoping they have a LocoRoco and a Tekken!

I'm in KC too. Where is there a Sam Goody around here? All I know about is 2 FYEs.

Damn im late to the deal...can i go to Eb pick up nhl or 2k6 for 15 bucks used and trade 2 of them in for a new game at FyE (or is this expired?)

Plus anyone have a good cheapy list of 360 titles that work...I know PDZ,RR and 2k nhl and NBA 06 are all cheap

Independence Center. I love the Werehouse on Noland/40....gotten some good deals there lately.
I'm going to try to trade in 4 movies I picked up at Hollywood Video and a PDZ/RR today. Wish me luck!
Good luck! I did the B2G2 at hollywood video twice. The first four, only three of them were accepted. The second 4 I got, only 1 of them was accepted :(

Greatest Deal Ever!!!!!

I just got back from the fye in the Westchester Mall in White Plains.

I traded in:

Death Jr
Metal Gear AC!D
Bombastic
Champions of Norrath
EA Sports Rugby
Killer 7
Mark of Kri
Metal Gear Solid 3
Onimusha 3
Rise of the Kasai
SOCOM II
Viewtiful Joe 2

And I got:

Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
LocoRoco!!!!

Rugby traded in at a penny but the girl at the register didn't care. Mark of Kri also had the old EB games stickers ALL over it. She didn't care. She just checked to make sure that they weren't all scratched up and checked me out. I think it was helpful that I let people go ahead and check out while she was helping me out. They didn't have much else other that PSP games though they did have Yakuza for the PS2.

I went to EB,picked up Madden 06 and College Hoops 2K6 for 31.76, and then walked over to FYE and got Saints Row with no problems. Sweet!

Ok I had some dust collectors on my shelf and went to the FYE in the Ingram Mall in San Antonio

Beyond Good and Evil wouldn't take came up as a penny
Socom 1
Socom 2
Madden 06
Nba 2k6
Timesplitters 2
Arc the lad twilight of spirits
Freedom Force
Rygar

I got kindom hearts 2 and madden 2007. Kh2 was 50 and so was madden 2007 but all i paid was tax. The only downer was madden was a display copy so I may just hang onto it and send in the rebate

Does anybody know if I could take a game I got from Warehouse using this trade-in promo and exchange it at another FYE, Coconuts, etc.? Using the Warehouse receipt?

Traded in 4 PS2 games and the only 39.99 game in store at FYE was Pirates of the Carribean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow. The manager didn't want to give me a gift recipt when I asked, so I didn't make it an issue. I then took it back to another FYE and just asked to get store credit for a return. The manager was a bitch and immediately was like we can't take this as a return. Despite the sign with the return policy posted right next to me, "unopened merchandise may be returned". So she calls the other store and talks to the guy. He says they can only do an exchange for a PS2 game, no store credit. I didn't really put up much of a fight. I will go back in a day or two and try at another FYE.

So if the other store doesn't want to do it, what would you say. Mention they are violating there own store policy and call the better bussiness bureau? Or should I do that now for the store I was at. Or make mention if they let me do it for a 360 game they would actually make another twenty dollars. Either way, I hope I didn't screw myself by not fighting for a gift receipt.
