Stopped in my local Sam Goody today and saw this deal there.

Xbox360- Trade in any 2 360 games and get a new 360 game for free.
PS2/Xbox/GC/PSP/DS- Trade in any 4 games and get a new game for free.

Restrictions: Can't mix and match (ie- trade 2 PS2 games and 2 Xbox games and you can't trade 4 Xbox games and get a PS2 game). New game must be 39.99 or less (44.99 or less for 360). Anything that trades in for a penny in their system is ineligible (any sports 2003 or before + a few other titles).

End date: Sept 10th (but some places are honoring it til the end of September)

Notes: The lady mentioned that this was good at all sister stores (Wherehouse, Strawberries, FYE, Coconuts, etc.). Even if your particular store doesn't carry used games, they will still accept them and then transfer them to other stores.

Since there are basically no restrictions, you should be able to bring in any 4 crap games and get a brand new game for them. I will try and answer any questions as best I can. Have at it and enjoy it while it lasts.

PS- I found (and tested) this at the Sam Goody at the Parkway Plaza mall in El Cajon.

So if it says 'currently not purchasing' on their site then its a no-go?

This could be a good deal OP.... or a risky one. Thanks for posting though.

Edit: any current PS2, GC, or Xbox games worth forking over the cash for? Maybe FYE has Okami.

I went to the mall tonight and asked about restrictions. The guy basically said anything was fair game , except sealed games and games they had 3+ in stock of.
Went to EB, bought max payne 1 and 2(not 1.99 like online, which i didnt notice until i left), blowout, and future tactics for $15 after 10% and walked out of FYE with Onimusha 4.
I don't know if the guy did it wrong, but i had to pay tax on the $40 game.

since it's no restrictions, could I just run into EBgames and pick up 4 $1 pre 2006 sports games (like madden 2000 or something like that...) then trade those? if so, I have a few trips to make...

luckly my EB games is in the same mall as FYE.

Thanks for posting the games you used... I'm going to pick these up grab Pac Man Racing for my son in the morning.

I took in 4 Xbox games* and got Dead Rising for free. Yea!

*Serious Sam, Armed & Dangerous, Beyond Good & Evil, Second Sight

Gamecube games ARE a part of the deal, btw.

WTF, why isn't Xbox meantioned on there? Is it suddenly not part of the deal? If not... damn.

Your my hero OP, traded in a copy of Madden 06 (x2), Ridge Racer, and PGR 3. Payed a total of around $57 (purchased from EB / Gamestop with 23.275% discount). Picked up Madden 2007 and Battlefield Modern Combat. Going back tomorrow for maybe another Madden 2007 and for sure Saint's Row.

I have tested this as well ... it works in most stores. Sometimes you get a Strawberries / FYE / Sam Goody manager that says something different but I didn't bother about it I just went to the next one.

Anyways the reason why I'm posting is to say think smart about it ... I'm turning 14$ into enough GS credit to get another xbox360 premium and 3 50$ games :D

The FYE at Mall St. Mathewes in Louisville refused a NBA Live 03 and LeMans 24 Hours for PS2. Well trade them in at EB and get a powerdrone and or a max payne 2.

hmm... I guess I'll pick up $1 titles that are not sports games.

How did you manage that? If Xbox games are accepted (which it doesn't talk about on that scan or the sheet I saw today), I'm very surprised they let you get a 360 game that way. Has to be VERY YMMV.

I'm calling BS on that one since Dead Rising cannot be less than $44.99 there.

FYE employees being morons/not caring? I can believe it.

Damn, the long trip might be worth taking advantage of this. What are some cheap games at EB/Gamestop/GameCrazy that are eligible? :D
I'm calling BS on that one since Dead Rising cannot be less than $44.99 there.
Most places the price of the game dosn't matter. Like I traded in Madden 06 (x2), Ridge Racer, and PGR3, and I got two $59.99 games.

He probably just got a REALLY stupid clerk who thought it was a regular XBox game.
PS2
Jak and Daxter - $6.99
Rise to Honor - $5.99
Grand Theft Auto 3 - $4.99
Metal Gear Solid 2 - $4.99
Don't even have to go that high:

PS2:
NHL 2k1 - 1.99
Tony Hawk 3 - 2.99
Oni - 1.99
Triple Play - 1.99

Total with 10% off GS card and tax

9$

Walked 2 stores over ... after taking off the stickers of course :D traded them all in for Madden 2k7 = 49.99 :D :D

But again ... it sounds like YMMV for these deals

Sucsess! I did a two store combo! First i went to gamestop, traded in halo 2 for 20 bucks, got nhl2k6 and change. Took that game, (important to take off used gamestop stickers) and a copy of condemned I already owned, traded them in for COD2 brand sealed new, and I had to pay the cost of tax on the COD2 and DVD which was 7 bucks. Also traded 4 scrathed and non working dvds for vendetta movie. Interesting fact: the two girls at register were clueless, and I was the first person to take advantage of it today. They did the trade by scanning in the trade ins on a gift card (1. I believe they altered the trade in values to total the price of game or what i was trading for. OR 2. she put actual trade in values on gift card then took 50 percent off of the brand new game/dvd) and then paying for the new dvd and COD2 with said gift card. I'm feelin pretty good. Thanks OP and CAG.

O_O Holy crap guys...

I gotta get to one before the 10th. Damn, why wait for Dirge of Cerberus to drop to $20 when I can get it for ~$12 now?

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I was told by a clerk the deal is good until the 20th. Can anyone confirm the end-date?

All I really want is Lego Star Wars II (PS2) and Star Wars OG on DVD. They all come out on the 12th. :oldman:

I'll try them out tomorrow and see if I can trade in early using the preorder boxes they have sitting on the endcap with SKUs on the back.

Looking at the flyer I have, it's exactly the same as the one scanned by Corvin. However, when I was in store, then were little inserts behind all the games that said trade 4 get 1 new free and it specifically mentioned Xbox and PS2 games.

Yep. That's where I saw the Gamecube mentioned first, those little inserts. I called before I went and asked about the trade 4 for 1 deal, specifically for Xbox. They guy said yes and I headed down. I didn't bother asking about GC games since the OP said they were a no go so I was disappointed I didn't take any.

That's where I went. Their only restriction seemed to be whether or not they already had any used copies. GTA3 was a no go.

Ahh, gotta love the doubters. Is this where someone eats crow? ;)

He wasn't saying it's bullshit about getting Dead Rising from this deal, just that it's bullshit that it is $44.99.

I want to trade-

Xbox:
Maximum Chase
New Legends
The Hobbit
Crimson Skies

ps2:
Gladiator
Gladius
Legacy of Kain
PowerDrome

What are my chances?

call around first and make sure they are doing any 4 used for any 1 new and then you'll know the chances hehe

I would say they're pretty good

So what are the good games to get that are out now for the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/DS? I have a lot of cheap titles that are in my collection that I'll be glad to get rid of. I just need to get a good list of what I want first.

Just went to an FYE in Illinois. Practically everything is excluded in their system (and when I say practically everything, I mean anything you can get for under $10). MGS3 and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance were the only 2 of 14 games I had that worked. No Metroid Prime, no Eternal Darkness, no THUG. So... yeah, that was a waste of an hour.
He wasn't saying it's bullshit about getting Dead Rising from this deal, just that it's bullshit that it is $44.99.
Ahh. It's not. Check the receipt, it was $60. I guess I just got really lucky. I'm going back with Gamecube stuff tonight. See if they'll give me Saints Row. :)

If not I might have to find a decent GC game to pick up. Odama? What else is there that came out recently? I'm out of the loop as the GC has collected dust since the 360 came out.

Just got back from the Wheaton, MD FYE and they said they are not honoring the deal on weekend. They had the signs posted in the front of the store and all along the gaming section. Needless to say I am pissed I drove up there and some snot kid told me to come back during the week or try the store in Greenbelt (hate Greenbelt, way too ghetto). Time to call management and complain.

That's one thing you'll learn about fye, every employee makes up their own rules about trade ins.

Sounds like one of the stores that I used to go to that wouldn't take trades on weekends or Friday evenings (the excuse was that trades took too much time and so they didn't want to make customers wait during their busier days).

Got Madden 07 for

Max Payne 2
NBA Live 04
True Crime Streets of LA
Unforutnately I had to part with Clock Tower 3 because they wouldnt take my NFL 2k5 nor Madden 06 because they were too scracthed.

But still not bad at all considering the only game I actually paid for was CT3 during the Sam Goody clearance.

The other games i used that 5 dollar off BB coupon and got them for tax last year :D

BEST DEAL EVER!

Got Dirge of Cerebus and Kingdom Hearts 2 for:

2X Astro Boy ($4.97 @ Sears)
2x Total Overdose ($3.98 @ CC)
MTV Digital Hitz Factory
Ford Racing 3
2x Powerdrome Racing (all $2.00 at pawn shop)

if I were you, I would have asked if the person/employee was working that weekend, and if they were point out that they might just not want to deal with it... then they can't say anything really.

Tried the one at LakeForest Mall, Maryland.

By my experience:
Would not accept Xbox games.
GameCube trade in for only GameCube games, etc.
Games I tried: 1080 (two of them), Animal Crossing, and Viewtiful Joe.

By my friend's experience (a few hours later):
He went in with a bunch of old sport games that he got at EB just a few minutes earlier. They wouldn't accept them, and the reason as because they all were ringing up for a penny each originally.

If I didn't already use up my cheapy games from the Kmart clearance to get more in EB credit with their 3 gets $10 more credit deal, I'd have some fodder to trade into FYE and get a new game.

Though, right now, there's nothing I really WANT for Xbox or PS2 and I'm thinking I'm never going to get a 360, due to the horrid BC.

I had a great experience at the FYE at Owings Mills. The clerk was very nice; first she went in the back and got instructions because she didn't know how to do the promotion. A couple of my games scanned for $0.01, and she said, "The instructions say I'm not supposed to take these, but I'm going to anyway." She even took the ATV Offroad Fury 2 game that was clearly marked "Not for Resale"; she entered it in manually. As she scanned everything in, she kept commenting how good I was doing.

Traded in: Jak & Daxter 1, The Hobbit (Xbox), Devil May Cry, ATV Offroad Fury 2, Crash Twinsanity (PS2), Gun Valkyrie, Blinx 2, Silpheed

Bought: 24: The Game, Black (both $39.99)

I had no trouble mixing and matching, and the clerk was super friendly. I only wish I had more dreck to trade in, and they had more to choose from. I'd been saving that stack for one of these sales for awhile now.

By the way, the trade in pricer on Wherehouse.com isn't all that helpful. Most of my games said "Not buying right now", but they didn't scan for a penny at the store.

As for the deal, I'm going today so I can try and get...something, havent decided yet.

Definatly YMMV on this deal...

I had a copy of Kameo, and a copy of PDZ. I wanted Saints Row. Since I'm in San Diego, I went to the Sam Goody's in Mission Valley, after calling ahead, and the manager there took a look at the sign, and interpreted it as meaning "trade in two games, and use the money towards a purchase of a new one." Essentially, no real deal, as my games were worth $25. So, I headed to another Sam Goody's, downtown. There, after about 30 minutes of the manager looking for the paperwork and trying to figure out how to do the deal, he rang in the trade in values of each game at 29.99 and 30.00 respectively, so I got Saint's Row for the price of tax, around $5.00.

It was a hassle to ride around and do this, but given the right employees, they'll let you get a $60.00 360 game for two old ones. I suggest calling ahead, and making sure that they know about the deal, and that they'll honor it. At both places, I was the first one to try the deal, hence all the confusion.

BTW, I know I should have gotten Dead Rising instead, or another game that THQ hasn't released region free that's available for $40.00 on Play Asia, but I wanted Saint's Row yesterday; I'm happy with my decision, so don't hassle me on that note.

I scored with this sale like no other sale before. I brought in 36 games purchased
at Circuit City that had been collecting dust in return I received the following list of games:
Mario Party 7
Odama
Eye toy with Kinetic
Flatout 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Kingdom Hearts II
Call of Duty 2 Big Red One
The Godfather
and Hitman Bloodmoney

I am so happy to be able to pick up current new games and get rid of junk. I
never can afford to walk in and pick up games. Its such a nice change. They sure didn't have much of a variety. This was at a local Sam Goodie store no question on the games didn't reject any except four that had all those blockbuster stickers and such on them.

I know, I already shelled out my $50 for that atrocity, but i'm returning the one from FYE to Gamecrazy for Disgaea 2 instead, since FYE didn't get that one.
