He's done that though - fans wanted HHH to be a face, and wanted DX back, so he gave it to them. He's yet to turn Cena heel though, which in a way is brilliant, since Cena is a draw as both a heel and face, but it's annoying as a viewer since Cena's character is beyond corny.
Everyone suggesting a hard reset seems to be forgetting just how well it worked for WCW when they did it in 2000.

It didn't, and many people cite it as one of the final blows that helped to kill off WCW (although at that point the ball had so much momentum it's doubtful it could've been stopped).

I doubt it would kill the WWE off though. I think most fans would understand and buy it or turn it into an angle. I'm sure the braintrust of the writing team can cook comething up. A few small changes do need to happen, and that is mainly on Raw, with a few tweaks to Smackdown. ECW actually is half watchable atm.
To me the solution is very simple: Vince needs to start listening to the fans again (who they cheer/boo) and stop listening to his ego.
There's one easy element of realism they could implement without changing a thing - acknowledge when fans are booing a popular guy. It looks pedantic and childish to act as if Cena isn't getting boos unless he's getting shit out of the building. Play off of his charisma and fan ambivalence towards him. Like Tito Ortiz (to bring him up again), many fans hate him, and some love him. Fan debates over this sort of thing should be encouraged, yet WWE discourages it by ignoring those fans, insisting on this phony-ass "babyface/heel" dichotomy. TNA seems to show fleeting moments of "getting it," as they had done in the past w/ the Angle/Joe feud (though, now, it seems they're clearly portraying the former as the heel, the latter as a face - which will ruin what was so fun about the feud in the first place!).

Why both major promotions force people into "faces" and "heels" in the post-Austin era of wrestling, I'll never fuckin' know.

they need a faction to toss things on it's head.. it saved WcW and WWF back with the ministry and the corporation...it's gotta be bigger than 3 people
