Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
Any IL CAGs spot a copy of River City Ransom Ex at TRU? I've been itching to get my hands on a copy but thus far have had no luck. I've seen Iridion, Broken Sword, Sabrewulf, and various other GBA games. Just haven't gotten a hold of RCR.
Is this the River City Ransom for GBA? If so, I did see some at the TRU in Bloomingdale on Army Trail Rd, close to Stratford Square Mall. But that was before the 50% sale so I don't know if they still have any in stock.
Hmmm, wonder why my TRU didnt tag the rest of the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? I do remember one being tagged when all this started, but today none of them were.
There are alot of games that aren't tagged at mine as well.

I went today and picked up Mega Man X7 and Mega Man X: Command Mission for $10 a piece.
Not necessarily.

PROMO can mean 8 million different things, from the Green Tag sale, to "Buy a PS2 and get a free memory card". I would assume that there is some obscure promotion regarding the memory card, but the Green Tag ain't it.
When you scan something at the register, it will have a "greentag" code on the main screen if it's a green tag item, but just say promo on the customer screen. But I have noticed that everything in my R-Zone is coded with a generic "videogame promo", but it doesn't specify what the promo is. I've tried scanning different combinations of items to see if any of them rang up on sale, but no luck. And no one else seems to know what it's for either. So I'm figuring that it's for some future sale that hasn't been activated yet.

This gets me confused too, lol. There is a silver GBA case that is like a little mini-briefcase. It's 9.99 and I would buy it at 5.00 but on the self scanner it says Video game promo- regular price 9.99....but its not green tagged- anyone know if this is on sale?
thanks!

So is this the cheapest place to get FFVII right now(other than EBay etc.)....for some reason, I remember someone saying all PS1 games at CC are 90% off or something.
If anyone can answer that question fast, I'd appreciate it. I want to give it another playthrough.

last i knew, it was 50% at CC. So, tru or cc would be the same price.

Thanks. $7 for a new one ain't bad, but I guess I can keep playing my beat up copy until 70% rolls around.

I'll check Niles for ya on monday.

I think the Promo reason was already posted earlier, but for those who still wonder. EVERYTHING will ring up PROMO in R-zone. The promo is you can get a free item with each videogame purchase. The free item is any of the stuff TRU has left over from previous promotions including the DDR music cd, XB music cd, Metal Gear Solid 3 DVD, Pokemon Battle Frontier case, Midway Arcade Treasures for PS2 or XB(says promo on the box), Transformers mini guide, or Soul Calibur 2 demo. Hope this helps for those still wondering.
I left that Gradius for you - I was in there about 11am and saw it but didn't pick it up since I got one in Portland last week (otherwise I would have). You didn't get that last Spyro did you? I'm going to try to get it tomorrow but figure there's only a 25% chance it is still there.

I noticed that at that TRU and one other in the DC area that Phantom Brave is green-tagged (at $29.99). Also, Mojo for Xbox, our old favorite from last year. Neither of these is on the OP's list, so I wonder if more games are being added? Anyone else seen these? I didn't pick up a Phantom Brave because I bought it used from Gamerush - if it is still around at the 70% drop (unlikely) I will just to have a new one.
Nope, I left that Spyro there. My mission was to get Gradius V and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Though, I forgot to look for River City Ransom since so many on this site have been looking for it. They also had one last Phantom Brave. I hate shopping during my lunch break, I never have enough time to look through all of games.

Yep - I got the Spyro this afternoon. It was still on that wall o' emptiness (all the other Spyro's and PPG's had apparently been taken before so there were about 12 empty game slots with the Spyro sitting in the middle - luckily it wasn't green-tagged or it probably would have gone sooner as well, being only $6 after discount and lots of people with kids shopping there when I was in!). Also, Phantom Brave is still there.

Glad you got the Gradius - that was the first time I've ever spotted an interesting game then heard that a fellow CAG got it soon after. BTW, if you are looking for R-type Final, the TRU in Springfield, VA has a bunch (at least I think it was there, I've been to so many the last few days :D).

Also, the Wheaton, MD TRU has Mafia for Xbox for $2.42 :D. Otherwise their green-tag selection is pathetic - the only TRU I've been to that doesn't have a green-tag bin or table for games. They just have a few scattered around the normal games. Most weren't marked though, so bring the list. Dude at the register could barely be bothered to stop playing his PSP to ring me up :D.
Any IL CAGs spot a copy of River City Ransom Ex at TRU? I've been itching to get my hands on a copy but thus far have had no luck. I've seen Iridion, Broken Sword, Sabrewulf, and various other GBA games. Just haven't gotten a hold of RCR.
my local TRU did but I was there about a week ago and also I'm in VA not IL

lemme know if you want me to check again though

Ha... the only bin my TRU has is a bunch of $14.99 games. Otherwise the Green Tag items are just in their normal places on the racks.

More GC Gamerz bundles showed up, this time for $4.xx b/c. I already have one for the system, and another for all my other controllers.

Wonder what I could do with a third?

Did anyone get any extra Gallop Racer 2004s? I have the Donky Konga 2 with bongos and Pikmin 2 from the Target sales.

I'm not sure how much I can contribute here... but I did want to say that the TRU in Littleton, CO on Wadsworth had one copy left of River City Ransom on Friday, and it's *not tagged*... so there's a chance it might be hanging around still. It is, for sure, on sale there, as I got one for myself.

I forget what all else they had... I know there were a lot of copies of some Crash game for PS2... the typical stuff for GBA... Broken Sword and the like. I didn't see any 9.98 tagged games. I was hoping I'd find a copy of Trivial Pursuit somewhere, but alas, no...

The TRU in Colorado Springs didn't have much that was terribly thrilling... the only decent things I remember seeing this past Monday were a copy of Street Fighter on PS2 and Mario Golf for GBA...

HTH,
Ash

Sorry if this question has been answered, which it probably has, but, if a game that's on the list is on the shelf without a green tag, does it still get the 50% off, or is it regular price since it isn't advertised as being on sale?

Most of the time it is still on sale the employees were just too lazy to mark it. Have the person at the register scan it for you.

you have a pretty good chance of it coming up 50% off. Just some lazy TRU people that haven't sorted through their games. Most of my green tag haul had no green tags at all.

hey, that rhymes!

Don't be annoying at my store (Culver City, CA) and ask me to scan a bunch of crap cause I've marked almost all (atleast 95%) of my games.
I live nowhere near you so don't worry about it.
Was just sayin' is all. Tons of people did that to me last year.

"Are you sure this isn't green tagged?"
"Could you scan it anyways?"
etc.

*sigh*

Haha. I can see how all the little kids run in there and ask about every game, assuming the Green Tag means everything is on sale. I saw a kid ask if the PS2 was half-off last Green Tag.

So far my haul has been:

30%
Timesplitters 2
Onimusha 3

50%
Monster Rancher 4
Phantom Brave
Spy Hunter 2
Shellshock Nam 67

Still have a couple to get, probably wait until later or until 70% rolls around since there are several copies.

Are PS1 games in the green tag sale? I saw a couple PS1 games with the green tag sticker ripped off. There is a couple games I want, like FF tactics and Crash Bash.
I'm waiting for 70% off to pick up Men of Valor. $9 sounds about right.
I just got this game. Despite the mediocre reviews, I find this game to be quite good. You should pick it up now. You might regret it if you go back and find that it isn't there anymore.

So far I've picked up:

30%
Shin Megami Tensei
Theif

50%
Outlaw Golf
R-Type Final
Breakdown
The Suffering

One store had some SMT:Nocturne left if anyone is interested.

I still have my receipt for the 30% off games and they're still sealed so I'm comtempleting bringing them back and re-buying them for the additional 20% off, but I'd feel like a jerk soI'll probably not.

I bought this game a few days ago. It was marked $29.99 but it rang up at $19.95 before the 50% off, so you can get it for $10 now and not have to wait.

The Don, I agree with you. I almost didn't buy this because of the mediocre reviews. I actually didn't even like the demo. I'm really glad I decided to get it though, because I'm having a blast with it. :)

Do you think you could pick me up a copy of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne? Ill pay the cost, shipping and whatever else. Please LMK through PM or here thanks !!

You return at the customer service desk and buy either in R-Zone or at a cashier... so I wouldn't feel like a jerk, they won't even know. Unless there aren't any more in stock and you want to try to re-buy the copies you just returned. But thats their fault for not doing a price adjustment on clearance items.

Hell, I've got enough games that I might not get around to Timesplitters 2 till the 70% comes around. So if its still sealed, I'm getting my extra 20%.

Since we're all doing hauls, here's mine:

30%:
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

50%:
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Gradius V
Legend of Dragoon
Onimusha 3 (from chickenhawk)
R-Type Final (from chickenhawk)

I have a pretty big list of things I'm gonna want to try and pick up or have someone pick up for me when it goes 70% on Sept 27th. Here it is:

PS2:
Amplitude
Arc the Lad Twilight of Spirts
Bombastic
Castlevania LoI
.hack//Infection
Downhill Domination
La Pucelle Tactics (I know, I know)
Maximo Army of Zin
Monster Rancher 4
Shadow Hearts Covenant
Silent Hill 3
Twisted Metal Black

GBA:
Bubble Bobble
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Fire Emblem
Iridion 2
Mario Golf Advance
Metroid Zero Mission
Rayman 3

GC:
Resident Evil Zero
Rogue Squadron II
Viewtiful Joe

PS1:
Spyro Special Edition 3-Pack

I wish I could find a non soundtrack version of Baten Kaitos, since thats suppose to be the green tagged one. My TRU only has the soundtrack one. Bummer.

Yes, it's for the X-Box, but I'm not interested in trading it. I may be going by there this afternoon though and I can look for another copy. The place I'm going to also had phantom brave for 50% off, but I didn't pick one up. I will this time if there are any left.

As for the person who asked about SMT, that store is pretty out of the way for me and I don't want to feel like a scalper by jacking up the price for the inconvenience. Let me know what you're willing to trade or pay and I can maybe stop by and see if they have it in stock.

If you're trying to squeeze a good trade by saying that the store is out of the way and maybe you'll stop by to check the stock and saying that you're going there this afternoon in the paragraph before is not the way to do it.

The TRU I work at in (West) Knoxville, TN has a bunch of copies of Trivial Pursuit left.

Another good TRU for the Green Tag sale is the one in Vienna, Virginia near Tysons Corner. They had Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, a bunch of R-Type Finals, Virtual Quest, Katarmari Damacy (1 copy though), Dynastay Warriors 5, etc. They were really stocked up with games. Just down route 7 in Baileys Crossroads, they had a bunch of Metroid Fusions and 3 Metroid Zero's. It looks like the just sold out of SMT: Nocturne because I saw that they still had the empty cases they use as tickets. The weakest TRU in the area had to be the one Fairlakes in Fairfax. They were cleaned out of everything. For some reason I have better luck at the older TRU's in the areas than the newer ones. The games in Rockville, barely had any green tags on them which is why I think they weren't cleaned out.

I'm going to the mall near the Toys R Us that had The Suffering and Phantom Brave (about 20 mins east of where I live) so I offered to look for another copy the first poster.

The Toys R Us with SMT is about 20-25 mins south of where I live, totally out of the way from where I'm going. I can provide you with maps if you'd like.

Would I go? For a friend, definitely. For a stranger? It depends. I don't want to be driving around all night after working all day for nothing. I was trying to be nice. I could be a jerk and buy them all and e-bay them, or gouge him and ask for $70. I wanted to know what he felt was fair and I'd decide then. I'll make it easy and just take the offer back.
what was the final price of the suffering (after tax and shit)?
I think it was around $11?
Priced at 20, half off with 5% tax.
What town is the TRU you went to located in? I am a fellow MA citizen.
The one in Shoppers World by the Natick Mall.

Leave me a copy of Phantom brave if there are any left.

sweet. that is the closest one to me. When I went, they had nothing. Probably because I went the first day that 50% appeared.

Is Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga rare or something? My TRU had one of them. I used to see a few copies around town. Is there anything else rare that I may never find again?

This is where it's at. I've found it to be anywhere from $6.95-ish to $3.21-ish after green tag. It's funny because the one that is discounted is the one with: An intec GC controller, 6 foot extension cord, GC plastic cases and a memory card inside of the case and not the other one which is case-only. Go figure. Decent case too, has one of those briefcase type number coded locks (Which wouldn't stop much, but it is nice)

It's not rare as in you'll never find it again, but it is fetching $60+ on eBay and alot of CAGs want to snatch it for that price to play it themselves.
