Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

**** = EXTREME YMMV - only offered online, only way you'll find it in a store is if someone returned it from online.
Hmmm...is it just me, or does it seem that a lot of people are just waiting until the 50% sales starts?
We are, and that could very well prove to be a bad idea. People buy things when they're on clearance, and who knows if what you want will still be there come the fourteenth?

Of course, I don't have to worry about this at all. I got my Sabrewulf, I haven't seen Fire Emblem for months at a TRU, and one of the stores near me had maybe 20+ copies of Mario Golf, so all of the games I was interested in are accounted for. :)

But most of the games I want aren't really big-time spectacular games that will sell. I mean, they had Nocturne, so they'll probably have some of the others.

Shoot, as long as I can pick up Shadow Hearts: Covenant for $10, I'll be happy.
Nocturne is practically "If you see it at all for $50 or less, BUY IT!" game.
Well, my TRU had like 20, so I'm just hoping no hoarder/ebayer got to it... and that it'll make it to 50% off...

If its not there then... oh well. I'm don't really "need" the game.

Or hope that they weren't just display boxes. I went to 5 TRUs before getting mine and a few would keep the display boxes in the case, it would look like they have around 8 copies :/

Anyone pick up La Pucelle??

EDIT: Here's what I'm looking at for down the road:

At 50%, I'll try and get:

PS2
Arc the Lad Twilight of Spirts $7.98 (Unless the price is more than that, then I'll wait)
Bombastic $19.99
Castlevania LoI $12.98 (Unless the price is more than that, then I'll wait)
La Pucelle Tactics $29.95
Maximo Army of Zin $15.98
Onimusha 3 $14.95
R-Type Final $9.99
Shadow Hearts Covenant $19.95

GC
Resident Evil Zero $19.99
Viewtiful Joe $19.95

PS1
Legend of Dragoon $14.99

GBA:
Astroboy $29.99

At 70%, I'm gonna go for:

PS2:
Amplitude $29.95
Twisted Metal Black $19.99

GBA:
Bubble Bobble $19.99
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance $34.99
Fire Emblem $34.99
Mario Golf Advance $34.99
Metroid Zero Mission $29.99

And does anyone known WHEN the 70% deal kicks in?

Did happen to pick up Sudeki for $14 and the Intec Gamecube Case (with the extra stuff) for $7 yesterday. There are a few games I'm waiting to get at 50%. Especially Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion.

Girl was checking some of the price tags when I was there. Second Sight GC was a green tag item at $15. She rechecked the price and it was only $10 before discount. Wanted to know if I wanted it, but I already have it for PS2. Probably should have stayed around longer to see if she changed anything else. First time I have ever seen someone actually check the prices there. Or even correct them. lol

Is Monster Rancher 4 rare? I'm thinking about picking it up when the 70% sale rolls around, but if it's HTF, I might pick it up at 50%.

ive found personally that its harder to find than 3. if that helps any.

For anybody still looking for SMT:N, there's about 4 left at the Monrovia, CA TRU. They're located inside the glass display case.

There's also 3 R-Type Finals left, they're in a cardboard display case that says "$14.99 and under". I picked up one of each.

I'm really glad I saw this. I was at TRU today and they have bunches of Metroid Zero Missions. I almost bought it, but now I know to wait a couple weeks.

so if a buy a game now clearanced at 30% of the green sticker and wait till August 14 will they give the price difference of 50% off?

the dude i talked to in fort wayne said this

you will have to return the game, go over to the game part and rebuy the game. if the game is Sold out, well your SOL. dude seemed a little upset that i knew when the 50% was going to start. he was like NO we will not price match that you will have to return it and rebuy the game

:imwithst:

And you'd mention this to an employee because...?

12 more days, people, 12 more days!

I REALLY hope they have La Pucelle, SH:C, and R-Type. Otherwise, I'm gonna pick up Astro Boy for the GBA and maybe a couple other andom games.

well it started on another game i was looking at (not green tag) and they said they would price adjust and then i said what about the 30% off green tag. if i buy it now and then when the price falls to 50% would you price adjust.

I'm waiting to see how many copies of R-Type Final will be left at my TRU by the 50%. I might just go a head and pick that up. That was one of the few there that I was interested in and they had.

I'm hoping I'm still within 30 days (if thats what TRU's return policy is) on TimeSplitters 2... they still have a ton of them left, I might as well return and rebuy so I can then return and rebuy again to save a couple bucks when it drops, since I haven't opened it yet.

Checked out Fry's today and they had Astro Boy GBA for $15.99. That's only about a buck more than TRU when it hits 50% for anyone who isn't able to pick one up at TRU.

Screw the 14th...I'm hoping that 90% will come soon. And as far as returning the games and rebuying them, it really does depend on who's running the service desk and their own interpretation of TRU policy, but TRU policy has always been if you buy something and it goes on sale within 2 weeks, you can come back and get the difference back without returning the merchandise. If the particular service area person has a problem with that, they either take their meaningless job way too seriously, or have a manager jammed up their ass.

yesterday I picked up:

Timesplitters 2(CUBE)-9.99
Omunisha 3-14.99

With the green tag the total was like 18-19 buckish. The TRU I went to was awsome, there is so many games I'm going to pick up once 50% hits.....best thing is, I don't think many people even realize this is gonna happen. When I was in the video game section there was maybe lik1 0 people there, and none of them notice the 30 % games...hell I barely noticed it, i had to look for them. They were stacked against a wall that you can't really see that good when you first walk in. All I know is that I can't wait for 50%...and then 90%!!!!!!!

BTW, I asked the lady at the desk if guides were also included in the sale..and she said she didn't think so, only the games. Does anyone know if guides will be incluced? Cause I saw some I wanted.

If you're interested, check out the .01 guide thread that's stickied.

90% won't be until a few months after Christmas. You have to hit 70% first anyway which, again, is after Christmas.

And our whole price match policy has changed. To nothing. So, like I said before, it all depends on who is working.

Finally found a TRU selling a last copy of Second Sight (GC) green tagged at $9.99. All the other TRU had it tagged at $19.99. Anyone know if purchased at $19.99 it will actually ring up at $9.99 plus 30% discount?

Didnt even see second sight at my TRU.

I'm hoping to pickup the Metroids and Golden Sun when 50% off hits, I'd wait longer but I don't think those games will last that long.

My TRU has tons of R-Types if anyone is looking for that game. I imagine there is no problem waiting for 50% off cause they still have several of them. If anyone wants me to pick one up for them, shoot me a PM.

^Thanks for the heads up, the TRU employess that I went to had no idea, LOL.

Bah... the TRU return policy is 45 days for electronics, so I jumped the gun yesterday. But I guess at least that means I don't have to run out today to return/rebuy (30th day). Guess I also didn't need to even buy the additional copy of Time Splitters 2, since 45 days (15 more) will take us up to the 50%. Ah well.

Ok i scored a pokemon fire red/leaf green promo for .01 and 2 copies of Dual Masters Sempai Legends prima strategy guide, they were .01.

They didnt have too many games marked down, does anyone know if they will be marking down more stuff or is it just the stuff thats already marked down.

Also i found a copy of a very old star wars promo disk for gamecube, they wanted 9.98 for it, does anyone know if this item will get marked down more? thanks

It might help if we knew what store you were talking about? I think you're talking about TRU but I'm not sure.

If you are talking about TRU, then....the Star Wars bonus disc isn't likely to go down in price since it should be green tagged. So just wait for green tag to get lower.

I picked up a copy of Gallop Racer 2004 for $37.53 after tax today at the Rockford, IL TRU.:D

I didn't even think to bother with the green tagged stuff as all of it has been out on bins so I figured that anything worthwhile was already gone. I saw two copies of Gallop Racer 2004 and was think whether I should pick one up. I decided not to and then came back to find one was already gone! But I still couldn't decide so I left TRU and went home. At home I checked the prices on eBay and realized this would be a great investment (sealed copies going for $60+) so I went back to TRU and luckily, the last copy was still there.

And no, I didn't waste that much gas as TRU is only 5 minutes from my house.
