Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
Ok I saw something very odd at my TRU, they had a double pack of cold fear, marked as green tag for 50%, so two copies of cold fear for 25 bucks...wonder if I can turn that into a profit. Also Call of Duty rang up as 5 bucks for me, anyone know if it gets some more for trade in.

Basically what do cold fear and call of duty get at ebgames and do you think my TRU is now doing 75% off due to call of duty.
which TRU u went? the one next to Kohl's?

Buy 2 get 1 free 19.99 and under is 10-2 to 10-8. The same ad has all movies buy 1 get 1 half off. Check your director's office for ad copies or ask your SRS.
That sucks. No way i'm picking up Driv3r for $9.99.
If you can find it a BB it was $5. Add in the PriceGrabber Rebate to make it $0 and the games is almost a good deal. Free, is the only way to go with Driv3r.

Dammit - of course, when I'm out of town... Sren, are you saying the sale for sure won't apply to green-tag items? I wasn't much of a CAG last year at this time so I don't remember the Buy2Get1 and green-tag at the same time (though I do remember buying green-tagged games back then), but someone here claims they were able to combine the two. If they are excluded via the fine print is it just YMMV with the cashier, or will the computer disallow it?

I was able to combine green tag items at the last TRU 3 for 2 sale with no problem. I noticed it was funny when I brought up 2x copies of Motor Trend Lotus (around $27 before discount) and a Guilty Gear X2 reloaded ($20) and the GG came out free! I dumped the Motor Trend games at fye for $54 in cash and went right back to get more Green tag stuff later on in the week.

Its because youre supposed to get the lowest price game for free and the registers take into account the original price. In this case motor trend. I did the same exact thing with Guilty Gear last year, only i did it with Onimusha and Robin Hood.
I can confirm the 70% has been pushed back due to the sell-thru of product currently in inventory. There will be more games added every other week or so. One little tidbit, Guilty Gear Isuka (sp) will be dropping from 49.95 to 29.95 on Thursday and it is green-tagged. Also Batman Begins (all platforms) will also drop to 29.95 on Thursday. I have copies of the next three ads and GT does not change from 50% in any of them. There are some decent deals though. Buy 2 get 1 free video game sale is next week! Unfortunately it is only games 19.99 and under....
Guilty Gear is the best news ive seen in this thread in a few days

That's a good sign with FF CC. What makes it even more interesting is that some of the green tag games online updated from 30% to 50% off a few days before the day the games went 50% off in store as well.
I can confirm the 70% has been pushed back due to the sell-thru of product currently in inventory. There will be more games added every other week or so. Is Batman going to be green tagged also? (Just to clarify.) Also, amazon has (had...it was green tagged last week, but not last night when I checked after posting this) Harry Potter: PoA green tagged at $19.95, but I've found it in two stores and neither rang up green tagged. Anyone have info if this will be added to the B & M's soon?

Thanks

btw, Were the online updates the same as in-store prices a few days before 2005's 50% off rolled around?

Grrr... This is so frustrating! I wish we could know FOR SURE if/when the 70% was starting. This back-and-forth evidence is driving me crazy. And it makes a big difference in what I do with a few of the games I have now (mainly taking them to EB for the NBA Live preorder since that ends Tuesday!).
Well, Demon Stone has been 70% off for some time online. It retails in stores for 50% at $15. This may not mean anything.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance $9.99 @ TRU/Amazon (71% off)
and
Sword of Mana $9.99 @ TRU/Amazon (71% off)

I think the 70% off sale has started for TRU online already considering these games were just 50% a week ago.

Unfortunately their shipping sucks, basically wiping out any new savings.

um just so everyone here knows, my TRU had a sign up yesterday saying all PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox games 20 dollars and under were b2g1 free. Don't know if the Green Tag games apply. I went to find Guilty Gear Isuka, but no dice :(

Damn...so, can I pick up a game and then pricematch it later? I was gonna just buy it at 70%, but I don't know when that will be now.
I checked yesterday afternoon and games were still ringing up 50% at B&M. Anybody try it today yet?
I'll be trying tomorrow when it was originally expected. But I'm sure there will be plenty of new signs up if thats the case. Wondering if their signs get larger as the sale goes on. The 50% sign on the wall of the store is about the size of the double-doors.

I hope the 70% off sale starts tomorrow so I can pricematch the games I bought at 50%. I do know that they took down the 50% off signs on Saturday Night that were in the front window because I was there on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday afternoon they were there, but on Sunday they were gone. The small 50% off signs were still in the store however.
hmm so tomorrow is the day huh?
Probably not, after reports from our TRU employees, but we're holding out hope.
btw, Were the online updates the same as in-store prices a few days before 2005's 50% off rolled around?
I think so. I remember seeing games that were $15 before discount that were $10.48 online drop to $7.48 online that were also $15 before discount in store.
...plus, gundam models are now 70% off, too (although suspiciously I saw them for that price laaaaast week...
Forget last week: I ordered a Gundam RX-78 GP02A E.F.S.F. Prototype on July 12th, and it was 71% off. Great kit if anyone is interested, the box is freakin' huge.

Box Size (in inches): 15.40 x 12.20 x 5.00
Shipping weight: 2.55 pounds.

Looks like they swapped the big 50% off sign for the "buy toys, get toys free" sign, so thats what they might be doing at yours as well.

I think I might order a kit. Do you by any chance know a particular model that would be challenging, but still suitable for a beginner?

Does anyone know if TRU will price match the games to 70% off I have the receipt and they are still unopened? I bought some games when they were 30% and 50% off, but it has been more than 30 days.

I tried price adjusting the other day at the Times Square location and they refused to do it. The lady told me that they no longer do that and that the new policy was implemented last May. Is she just lying? I've done adjustments before with no problems, but not since May. This happened to anyone else? please advise...

Last year i tried to price adjust at brooklyn, NY. Cause theres one guy who did it at that location. hes also a CAG. so i went on the next day same location. they refused to do it. she called up the manager too. so they didnt let me. maybe because im not black. im not being racist. its a black neighborhood btw.

Does anyone else find some humor in the fact that perhaps because so many people were buying items with intention of price matching when the 70% rolls around, it looked to TRU corporate that they were doing rather well at the 50% mark and should hold off on dropping further?

That could very well be true...how ironic. Oh well, time to go pick up my copy of Lockdown for $25 from Best Buy. :D

Or sort of like what Best Buy did: Made everyone buy at full price thinking that the games would drop to $5 the next day and it turned out that most of them ended up being $10 and not $5. They then pulled the prices on the website so it was harder to get them to PM from their site.

TRU may have been banking on people buying now and waiting for Tuesday and when 70 didn't happen on Tues, people would just keep it at 50 or when they realized, it would be too late to return it.

It would be interesting to find out whether or not such conspiracy theories have any actual basis in fact. I just know there are more bargain hunters and less deals to be found this year. Hopefully, the stores aren't actually catching onto us just yet.

Keeping in mind that the green tag sale is store-wide and not just video games, and since I probably constitute half of the video game purchases at my TRU (not really, but never seems like much goes out of stock other than the games that only had one or two copies to begin with), I don't think it's my doing.

Seems weird to do a chainwide sale like that anyway though (basing it on product sales). Lets say Store A is selling green tag stuff like mad, everything is going out, great times. Store B on the other hand is selling nothing. But, since the Store As of the world are doing well, the green tag stays at 50%. So the Store Bs continues to sell nothing. But maybe thats just me knowing little about retail.

Damn, this sucks if there is no 70% coming up soon. I was going to go back and see if the one TRU still had teh 10 copies of Nocturne they had last time I was there. I figured if no one bought them yet, I was right to hoard. Oh well.....

this is TRU fella. I doubt there is a sound mind on their board to orchestrate something like that.

That's pretty ridiculous. Best Buy didnt make anyone buy anything. Best Buy didnt advertise a sale or a clearance. If you had been around for other 5 dollar sales for Best Buy and CC, then you'd know that the website does funky things (ie random titles coming back in stock, price fluctuations). You aren't a victim of a corporate conspiracy.

The notion of TRU is equally ridiculous. There was absolutely NO confirmation of 70% being on the 27th other than some extrapolation of the fine print on the bottom of a 50% off poster. There wasn't a set date that got pushed back by corporate. If you remember last year, 70% wasn't even till November and 90% was day after Xmas.

50% is doing rather well. If they are actually selling this stuff, there's no0 need for a further markdown. When the sales slow because the stock is dwindling, that's when the next drop will happen. It's pretty simple.

Actually, I believe the 70% date was told by a few employees. And they were correct about the 50% date, so I don't fault them for saying the 9/27 70% sale. And who knows, it may actually happen tomorrow if people would be patient (and not rely so much on PM).

As for Best Buy, I have never seen a $5 game in a B&M in my entire life. Either they send it back to the warehouse, or keep it in the back for the employees to buy. I looked for Evil Dead for a good three months to no avail. At least five stores (where they all listed available on the website) and nothing. Same with the latest 'sale.' Any time you go in there and are just looking, you get berated. Anytime you actually want to buy something, there is not an employee to be found.

I'm done with Best Buy. They can take my Reward Zone card and eat it. Devil customer or not, I was spending money there. Was...

I didn't see it on the first page (unless I'm really stupid) but I got Polarium for $15 and Feel the Magic for $10 today. They were obviously both greentagged. And is it YMMV for games that are on the list but aren't greentagged?

they recently added some games to the list (maybe 2-3 pages back, about a week ago). So, they just have updated the op yet.

I've been around for most of the sales. I'm not an "angry corporate victim", I didn't participate in the "buy and return" and don't plan to ever. It's too much trouble for me to go through because of the employees in my area.

I was not trying to say that it's gospel but just to present another point of view ... "bargain" sites have been around for a while now and if the stores can use it to their advantage, they may. I don't think there's anyone on here that thinks any of these corporations would be above utilizing strategy such as this. Maybe not even to make a profit per se but to teach a lesson. I'm not specifically saying they're manipulating CAGs but you also need to consider all the other sites such as FW where the user base is much larger. Personally, I'm sorry to those CAGs who have to go through the hassle of returning items because the sale didn't come as predicted but on the other hand, I hope that the hoarders have to jump through hoops to return their stuff.

The TRU employees have been accurate so far. There's no reason to believe that the 70% will happen in the morning beyond wishful thinking.

That...makes no sense. Why on earth would Toys R Us want to "teach us a lesson" by moving back a sale date?

They're in this to make a profit, not to spread some warped version of morality. The games that are on clearance are there because they're trying to get rid of them; why would the chain do something that would hinder that goal like pushing back a sale to screw over a small number of people who look for deals online?
