Turok - Gen. Discussion & Info
The AI looks really dumb though. The dino's just sit there eating something and don't react at all when he throws exploding charges.
well science has proven that dinos really love their exploding charges.
looks good... hope it brings back the classic Turok 2 feel.
I thought the general consensus of Turok 2 was that it sucked ass.

Haven't played Turok since the original on the N64, rented from the good ole' public library back when they carried vid'games. I had a blast... as a seven year old (or so)...

One of the first games I remember playing through to the ending, I played for so long straight to the end I remember feeling really sick afterwards.

Like I said, haven't played since. Perhaps a next gen version will be... nostalgic.

EDIT: I might have played Turok 2: Seeds of Evil as well. Don't remember.
I thought the general consensus of Turok 2 was that it sucked ass.
You thought wrong. Turok 2 had very positive reviews, as did Turok 1 (which I can personally attest to ruling).

Turok 3 also got good reviews, I don't think I've played it (didn't have an expansion pack back in the day, which I think it required.)

It was just Turok: Evolution, apparently, that sucked balls. For some reason I thought there were more games in between there... but I guess Turok: Evolution sucked so bad it makes me imagine a long line of sucky titles.

So yeah, as long as this game is nothing like Turok: Evolution, BRING IT ON!

I thought I posted the vid. Here it is:

Notice how they are oblivious to him approaching and throwing shit at them. These are supposed to be Raptors...
I actually really liked Turok Evolution for GC
I played it on xbox and I enjoyed it as a budget title. As a standard FPS game it had some really cool weapons. Using the bow just like in the game "Thirteen" was nice, I like killing the dino's & crocs. The exploding arrows made me think of Rambo 2, lol.

Here's hoping for a better next gen translation.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (PC) was the first FPS I ever played, so the franchise will always have a soft spot in my heart. Killer soundtrack, looked and played way better on the PC than the N64 version. Looking forward to this game eventhough it kinda looks like Far Cry meets BC with a sprinkle of Pariah.

the best cheat code ever:

Yeah, I could see where it'd be nice to throw in an animation that "looks around" if the dino gets hit by something, but these guys are busy eating. As for throwing shit at them, they probably don't know it's explosive.

Well they were busy eating the carcass in that video. Plus, can't really condemn the AI yet when the game isn't due out until 2008. The gameplay looks really sweet though, and hopefully this will be a good game. I like that there actually making Dino's a big part of the game again as opposed to all the other goofy stuff they used in past games.

For some reason i thought this game was due out this year, thought i saw a release date as early as sept :(

edit:

ign and ebgames both still have this listed for sept 17th this year, but the ign preview says early 2008 :( :(
I was looking forward to playing this, but no biggie i guess since it will give them more time to make the game better and theres plenty of titles still coming out.

Yeah, I thought September too, then right after E3, G4tv had an interview with a Turok developer (showing off the dino killing cutscenes) and after the demo they said Febuary 2008. :bomb:  :bs: :headache: :whistle2:k

Finally watched the E3 footage. Nice. I've been wanting a true sequel to the first game for 10 years. Acclaim never provided it for me. Glad some else stepped up to the plate.

Demo coming in November:
Yes, if you plunk down $5 at your local GameStop in the early part of November, you'll preorder the game, get a Turok T-shirt and walk away with a 30-minute Xbox 360 demo of the upcoming title. Have you already preordered it? Your store should be holding your demo and shirt. No GameStop around? You can grab the demo at Best Buy in December.
We got the Turok demo/shirt pack today at Gamestop.

Just a heads up for everyone.
Any word on the T-Shirt size? I don't really have high hopes for the game, but I guess I can plunk down a Lincoln to reserve and try out the demo...thanks!

the shirt I got was XL, the shirt and demo comes in a nice little cardboard box.

Thanks for the info. I might wait to see what BB does. I think I'd rather have a spare 360 case than a t-shirt.

Did you try the demo? Length?

Yeah, I picked up COD4 yesterday and had $6 extra in credit so I put it down on Turok. I haven't gotten around to trying the demo but it's a decent package it comes in. I haven't seen how big the shirt is though.

So, can you put $5 for the game, get the demo, and then cancel your preorder and get the $5 back? Don't need an overly large t-shirt.

They might have more sizes on the shirt man. I doubt most people wear an extra large he probably just got a lousy rep who said "here you go" and grabbed one without asking his shirt size.

Thanks! I am mildly interested in Turok, and $5 for a demo and shirt early isn't bad. I will probably wait a while to actually pick it up, maybe when it is $40 new, but I will eventually... Anyways, I remember someone saying that GSs got their preorder stuff in on Fridays on the East Coast, or atleast New England, so looks like I will wait until then or Saturday to preorder.

Picked up the demo and tried it out last night...ugh...this game is just, I don't know seems boring and repetitive, nothing out of the ordinary. Raptors constantly jumping out of nowhere, knocking you down, you shoot they die, walk some more, another raptor jumps, you shoot they die...its just too generic I guess. I would pick up Timeshift instead of this one for sure.

Sad to hear, but not surprising in the slightest. Definitely don't have high hopes for this game.

BTW, I was preparing for the worst with the Timeshift demo based on comments, but I think it's actually pretty enjoyable.

Oh definately, I enjoyed the Timeshift demo, its just that with Halo 3, CoD4, and possibly BlackSite: Area 51, I really don't have time for TimeShift...maybe in the next couple months when it drops in price, but as for Turok, after playing the demo...don't think I'll be touching this piece of green turd ever again.

Yep, too many games, too little time. The only games I've purchased recently were Skate and COD4. They basically need to have great replay value (sandbox, or MP) in order to be worthy of a purchase. The rest I get from Gamefly, but even with that I still hold on to games for more than a month because I simply cannot find enough time to play through them. I had Bioshock for 2 months and will probably have MP3 for longer.

I could probably save a lot of time by blowing through games, but I'm the type that wants to take everything in and spend time exploring.

Apparently some retail stores are giving out a demo disc of Turok for the 360 for those who reserver the title. I've been interested in this game (was a big fan of the 1st on the 64) since I first heard about it.

Anyone pick up and play the demo yet? Looking for some feedback.

My GC store just got the demo today. Impressive, only a month and a half after the competition. GG corporate office.

Alright: Turok impressions.

The graphics are sick. I didn't play it in HD, but it looked great in SD, so I can only imagine HD.

The gameplay.. well, the shooting is pretty much copy and pasted, it all feels the same. The guns have silencers, which is cool. You can dual wield different types, I had the shotgun and SMG combo in the demo. I did like how the screen bobbed back and forth when I walked.

I love the enemies. The AI isn't fully completed on some of the enemies as it's a fairly early demo (the game's still a month and a half away). The dinosaurs, when they charge at you, can knock you flat on your ass. They can also jump you from behind and then it turns into a QTE, where you have to push either the left trigger, right trigger, or rotate the joystick depending on whatever the action says.

The sound is great, ambient noises had me paranoid the entire time. Once I got outside and to the big dinosaurs (you start off in a cave), I spun around every time I heard a noise. There's also a stealth section, sorta. It doesn't FORCE you to sneak around, but it's advised that you sneak and use your knife for instant kills. Once you're spotted, enemies open fire and then the dinosaurs are alerted.

Overall, fairly fun, the multiplayer will probably be cut and paste. It's a fun demo, a little bit different from the norm, and it did get me into it. A sprint button would've helped out a bit, but eh, what can you do.

I say it'll be a rental.

Does GC have T-Shirts? My dad went there today and he got the Demo Disc but no shirt.

Anyway I was surprised at how good this demo was. It is not like a lot of games out there today with so much deepness in the combat system (such as squad controlls, tactical coverings and stuff). Turok goes back to the roots of fps games where is all about shooting and killing (although there is stealth kills and stuff). Although it does it very well and it feels like the original Turok but revamped for the 360.

The best part of this game is the in my opinion the dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are like real animals where they don't care who is attacking them they just want them dead. So they go after enemy guards and stuff which is funny and awesome. Also the developers added them where they come out of nowhere which is cool (I got a almost resident evil feel of things popping out of nowhere).

Overall I don't expect this game to do nothing amazing on the tech side but from what I played it seemed very addicting and seems just like a great game and it's simplistic idea of shooting and killing is done really well and feels like a blast from the past.

Damn...did I play the same game you guys did? I seriously didn't get anything positive out of this. I might have to give it another shot and see if I judged it too early.

nope

I'm a big fan of the Turok series. I especially loved the xbox version single & multiplayer butpeople didn't care for it, IDK. Shooting the bow and watching an enemies head pop off was classic.

I have a 1971 (1964 reprint I think) Turok Son of Stone comic.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, I will add that the Best Buy pre-order box (shared box for both 360/PS3 versions) has the demo disc and a black Turok beanie, and not a t-shirt, which was a disappointment to me personally. But hey, free is free. You can see the details on BB.com. Usual store procedure of putting down $5 applies.

You arent the only one bud. I played the demo and didnt feel any wow about it...

The graphics were okay, the game was okay, nothing too bad but just nothing that really stuck out to make me happy.

I still wear my Turok beanie i got with my best buy preorder though, cuz thats just awesome

On Kotaku they have a post up saying a demo was released on Xbox live in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom. So I guess North America is last to get it?

Edit: And North America is not getting it because it is in the February issue of OXM.

I hope they put in a bunch of cheats and extra stuff like the old Turok games. Unlimited health/ammo and all weapons are about the only things that will make this game fun.

Well I just found out that this game isn't street dated, so basically Gamestop will start selling it tomorrow when they get it at my local store. Its possible you might find this game in a store somewhere today.

it should be in today at my CC.. thats what they said.. but their website says next week.. best buy's says today..

Sigh.. Ill just go after college

you must be on the West Coast then? Here on the East Coast it doesn't seem like it is arriving until tomorrow.

The demo sucked, the begining was so dark I couldn't even see anything, and I had to strain my eyes because of it. The when I got out of the caves I realized that the games was boring, and I could kill anything with just my knife.
