Update - 3.50 downgrade NOW AVAILABLE. Requires the EU or US version of Lumines.

I checked a half-dozen stores today. 2 EBs, 1 blockbuster among others. All gone. Damn.
(I'm already running 3.40 OE-A, but still...)

Well, I hope my memory card comes tom. I want to downgrade. I have 2.71, so no worries about this lumines stuff.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! SUCCESSFULLY DOWNGRADED TO 1.5! XD XD XD

Time to start using my PSP again!
I'm scared. I need some encouragement. X(

EDIT: OK. The deed is done. 1.5 FTW!

I'm scared too...

I'm researching right now to see if it's worth downgrading at this point. I think it is.

I can follow directions fine. I'll probably do it sometime this week after I read some stuff.

I'm mostly interested in dumping games to my memstick, running PS1 games, using music while doing other tasks, and maybe some decent HB apps.

We'll see. I keep telling myself there's a very small chance of bricking.

ok,so I have 3.40 OE-A now!I was wondering,how can I put my UMD games on the PSP(Like rip them) and play them at 333 mhz?Also,how can I play PS1 games?Thanks
also, can I delete all these files that I just put on the PSP?
The ones on the memory stick, yes.

DO NOT DISCUSS SOFTWARE PIRATING HERE. PERIOD.

I'm glad I was able to get the downgrader but unfortunately, my copy of Lumines is in Indonesia! GRRRR!!!! Might have to go buy one of the three copies I found at a TRU the other day.
I hope I don't get crucified for asking but I never understood the whole homebrew psp thing. Can someone break it down for me so that I can get in on all the excitement. Thanx in advance!!!
So are there any kind souls out there that are willing to assist me with my requests???
So are there any kind souls out there that are willing to assist me with my requests???
I havnt done mine yet, but pretty much you can playhomebrew, change the icons of your PSP, play games off the memory stick for faster load times and that is really it.
So are there any kind souls out there that are willing to assist me with my requests???
Running on the 3.40 OE-A Firmware you can:

Access the 4th brightness level anytime
Run PS1 games right off the memory stick
Run PSP games right off the memory stick (Compressed ISOs, too, CSOs) so games have better load times
Run the PSP at a clock speed above the normal 222 Mhz (Up to 333 Mhz) so that games have a better framerate.
Run custom applications that do everything from stream audio to open up ftp access to acting as a language translator (Basically anything that could come in handy)
Run custom made games like No Gravity or Biohazard
Run emulators to play SNES or even N64 games
Have access to the internal flash memory to alter the XMB icons, sounds, boot up animation and even the XMB wave
Using the USB cable you can run your PSP on your computer screen with video out
Take screenshots during games, even video
In-game cheating akin to Gamesharks or Action Replay

AND you still have full access to all the normal PSP features like the web browser, remote play, music visualizers, etc.

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, but you get the idea.
So are there any kind souls out there that are willing to assist me with my requests???
well, i'll try (this is my interpretation of it, as simple as possible)

There a two types of firmware: Official Sony and Custom/Hacked.

In order to run homebrew, the PSP must be at Sony Official 1.50 firmware.

Let's say you have Official Sony 2.71, (the latest is 3.50) You will have to downgrade to Official Sony 1.50. From there, you can either stay with Official Sony 1.50 or upgrade to a custom firmware.

If you stick with 1.50, you will be able to run emulators, but a drawback to sticking with 1.50 is that some later UMD games like Tekken DR and Megaman MH:X won't run because they require firmware updates. So for that you will need Devhook.

But if you upgrade to a custom firmware like Dark Alex's 3.30 OE-A rev. 2
Then you can run emulators without having to Kxploit them, run PSP games without having to install Popsloader, run current UMD's without having to install Devhook, and also be able to play UMD ISO's (backups/pirated games) :whistle2:# .

I just succesfully downgraded my PSP to 1.5, and was wondering if it was okay to format my memory stick now to delete all of the files. And which custom firmware should I upgrade to now? I was just going to go with 3.40 OE-A, but it seems like more people are on 3.30OE-A instead. What are the differences? And any chances of bricking during the upgrade? Thanks.

Sorry I don't have the links right now, but psp-hacks has a couple tutorials for dumping UMDs. Look around there.

I also remember reading about the ability on CF to play music while playing a game, surfing the web, or something. You could independently adjust the music volume by holding down the music button. I can't find which CF is this feature in, or if it even exists.

Just a reminder, posting information about ISOs and how to go about pirating games is against the CAG TOS. If you must have such discussions please take them to those other sites. Homebrew discussions are acceptable however.

Sorry, my bad.

Never again.

I scored a non-Greatest Hits copy of Lumines at TRU. I was pretty shocked that black labeled copies still existed in retail stores. Only $13.98 too!
Will this work on a Japanese PSP (PSP-1000)?
It should work without any problems. I downgraded two psps (white and blue) with the LCS exploit. This is essentially accomplishing the same thing.

Edit: I just sucessfully downgraded to 1.50 as it says in system info.
It was pretty painless, I guess.

3.40 oe here I come!

I just installed 3.40 oe-a, and now my emulation will not work. Do I need to wipe the memory stick clean and re-install the emulators?

............Never mind. Figured it out!

My Japanese PSP factory fw version is 3.11. Should I upgrade it to Japanese fw 3.50 or American fw 3.50 first? I never upgraded my psp and the offical instructions seem to suggest NOT to mess with cross-country fw releases.

Another question is my Japanese PSP has the "X" and "O" functions reversed during menu operations. Will upgrading it to an official American fw fix the button reversal?
Does this work with the gh lumines version? I saw a couple of them a week ago at CC.
Earlier posts seem to indicates the same success with the GH version.

The firmwares have been the same for a while now, but I'd go ahead and upgrade to the American version of 3.50.

Your button functions will not be affected. However, once you do install the custom firmware, there's an easily accessible registry hack (single setting change via a menu) that'll allow you to switch those two buttons. I've done it on both of mine.
I have a custom firmware, how to I make games run at 333 MHz?
Hold the R-trigger button while pressing the on button (from completely off setting/not sleep mode). A recovery menu will appear shortly thereafter, and one of the submenu options is to change the cpu speed.

Yes, the Greatest Hits version of Lumines works. That's the one I used to do the downgrade.

Stupid question (as I should probably just dig through this/other sites), but is it possible, once after switching to custom firmware to switch back to the official firmware? Thanks.

I think you may have to do a few things first...I've heard of using a key cleaner or something but...Yes it is possible.

If you have an older model psp, then it's not a big deal. However, if you have a recent model (TA-82) or (TA-86) it is not a simple change. There're a versions of the custom firmware out there that mimic any recent firmware from Sony (3.50 OE should be out soon). However, if you're concerned about switching back to official firmware. and you have a psp with a TA-82 or TA-86 board, then you should at least read more about it.

I'm so pissed. I used this downgrader and went 2.81 -> 3.5 -> 1.5 and tried to go -> 3.30c oe, and it bricked! I did this with my other PSP and it was just fine, it runs 3.10a OE I believe and I had no problem.. with this one, I followed the exact same process, and it bricked right in the middle of upgrading! I'm so pissed. It's not like I turned it off or anything. It was upgrading like the other one did, everything was going fine.. then it just stopped and never came back.

Ouch, atleast you have another though.

dragonjud, what do you mean by completely off? Im a noob, lol. I jsut use taht slider on the right to turn the power off, is that what you mean?
 that sucks...
This would have been a more proper emoticon: :bomb:

;)

That sucks though. If he downgraded to 1.5 with no problems, why would it brick upgrading to custom firmware? I thought there was only a risk in downgrading. Does that mean everytime you want to upgrade to the next custom firmware that comes out, you risk bricking it?
Ouch, atleast you have another though.
The bricked one was actually a friend's.. I think it's got a warranty at some retail store.. whereever he bought it. So there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm tempted to do this before my upcoming trip....although, not sure what I need to downgrade for as I'm not into homebrew much lately.

I am retarded. Someone please help me. I cannot for the life of me figure out what to put where to run emulators/homebrew. I really want a good GBC emulator. Any suggestions for a 3.4 system? I actually want to use it to run a legal rom that I have Daikatanaif you must know. The GBC version never actually released but it was actually pretty damn fun. It is a legal rom that Romero himself released for public dl.

So how do I go about playing this legal GBC rom on a 3.4 custom firmware?

Yes, turn it off completely, and then hold the R button while turning it back on.
