Starting soon, exact timeframe to be determined, RadioShack will begin carrying Video Games on it's website, including preorders for the Xbox 360.

The site is slated to have over 1100 titles, and you should also be able to purchase this stuff in the store (via RadioShack.com).

One advantage the site has, that should extend to games, is that shipping is free.

I'll have more as I hear it.

EDIT: Firm website launch date is October the 15th. Check RadioShack.com on saturday.

EDIT: They pushed it back one week. Launching today. check www.radioshack.com for the placeholder graphic.

lol where the fuck is Radio Shack going to store games in it's small ass little box of a store? They already have too much stuff overflowing in there as it is.

This looks like one desperate last maneuver before they finally fold.

I agree. The RS here sucks. A few games won't make me go in there.

Unless they start doing trade-ins.. that would be interesting.

ooh, his will make interesting competition for EB

Most people think Radio Shack went out of business or just don't exist anymore.

yea, radioshack is always cramped when i go in there...

it would be great if they did trade-in's...otherwise it's just another store that sells games...

Yeah. But the radio shack in the mall here is literally around the corner from the EB. Seriously. There's EB, an empty jewelry store, then radio shack.
good news... the more stores that sell games means more chances of sales.
My thoughts exactly.

Radio Shack used to carry (some at least) games but I guessed they stopped once they realized that no one is gonna buy TIger Woods on the GBA for $49.99.

Yep, i have a feeling, im going to see plenty of things like madden 2002 for the ps1 for 39.99

Ahh, but of course its just another store that sells videogames.

For me, in the hell hole that I live in, that doubles the stores, other than the pawn shop, that sell videogames. So its a plus.

Well then again, the other store is K-Mart, so yeah.

Maybe they'll be selling 360 preorders and subscriptions to GameTap or something. There's got to be some creative sales-lingo going on here.

Thanks for the quote C+P Trakan.

The stores will not have games in stock, nor will they take game returns. The return process will be simple. Call for a return label, then ship it back.

I've been told that pricing will be very competitive. Please wait for more deatailed information before thread-crapping.

Are you nuts? When does RS charge retail? Retail would be cheap at RS. They'd probably come out with Madden 02 for the everyday low price of 55.95...

It's actual games. Not GameFly or any of that rental stuff. I believe the reasoning for this is to bring presence of mind of RaidioShack in the younger generation. You can see what they think from this thread.

Just remember, 5200 corporate owned stores, 2000 dealer/franchise stores. In two countries.

You can pick any item off the website, walk into the store, and order it. RadioShack pays shipping. Try it. Look up an item off the site, call your local store, and ask that if you come in, can they order it for you.

Aaaahhh, that makes sense. I haven't been in a Radio Shack in forever so I didnt realize they did that. Thanks for the clarification.

Radio Shack is by no means a great store but it is not in danger of disappearing anytime soon. They do pretty well, not BB or CC good, but good enough to stay afloat. You would be surprised what Howie and Vanessa did for that store. The phone sales and plan/service charges don't hurt either.

If they have good prices and pricematch or compete, I would have no problem picking games at RS.

Wow over a 1000 titles?! Can that be possible? They must be partnering up with someone to get that many titles. Please let the prices be reasonable.
I wonder how long until gamespot steals this story...
I am betting by tomorrow it'll be on GS...

Thread-crapping is the only thing some CAGs know how to do.

Thanks for the info.

I agree, I welcome any additional stores selling games. Even companies that sell games at ridiculous prices like KBtoys (or they used to), have good sales now and again trying to clear stuff out. Hopefully they will try and be competitive.

Also 1100 games is quite a lot, good selection is always a plus, with many stores now decreasing their stock to only the big sellers.

I went to Canada and the Radio Shacks there all already carry games.

Prices seemed pretty bad when converted to US, but I didn't have other price points to compare to.

All games are probably going to be $5-10 more than anywhere else, if they are priced in true Radio Shack fashion. Just about everything there is over-priced.
I am betting by tomorrow it'll be on GS...
I doubt it. Gamespot learned its lesson as they waited on the DS price drop until Nintendo themselves confirmed it.

calling them out was a smart thing to do cheapy

Dammit, I work at Radioshack and nobody told me about this! How do you find stuff like this?

Wonder if I can use my discount? ...

This is going to be really good in the long run or really, really meh.

I think they're trying to take advatange of the GS/EB merger with a major disappearing name. I really have no hope of them becoming a CAG favorite. As everyone has said.... it's still Radio Shack.

Let's hope we're all surprised.

If done right, they could make pretty decent money based on economies of scale.

This is what they are looking at, I bet:
1. No inventory woes. No need to stock 30 copies of the new game that nobody buys, then take a loss clearancing it out six months later because they need room for the next dud game.
2. Internet ordering with cash.
3. Never go out of stock on a hot item unless the whole chain is out of stock. How many release/sale days are there reports that Overpopulated, CA is sold out of Hot Gamer Item X, but MiddleOfNowhere, ND has five boxes sitting on the shelf?
4. Small game publishers don't have to supply 1 copy to 7000 stores on the off chance they can sell at least half of them, just 3000 copies to the warehouse and an option to supply more.

RadioShack could really make a name for themselves catering to niche games while still selling Madden, GTA, and Halo, and also have some decent sales because of the lower overhead.

They will need to overcome the whole "I bought something at the mall, but I won't have it for a few more days" and "it's not a game store" stigmas, though.

I like Radio Shack...great place to pick up random audio/video parts. They even carry brands like Monster Cable, etc. now. I'm still curious how they are going to cram video games in there though...

I am kinda thinking the same thing. That they are going to have someone like Gamestop or something behind them like Barnes and nobles website. They have games online powered by GS but nothing in the store. Hey fanskad any word of employee discount. :D

It was supposed to be late August, early September, set to coincide with the re-launch of RadioShack.com

Perhaps there is a delay in the re-launch.

Hey, sorry I haven't posted. The release of games will coincide with the relaunch of RadioShack.com. The latest date I've been told is mid-september. Keep your eyes open, I'll link it when it happens.
