US Firmware 2.0 Discussion (Now Online!) (For Real This Time!)
Unfortunately if you have the japanese version you can't overwrite it to the US version. You're pretty much shit out of luck.
We'll see about that.

Oh yea--they took out the background changer for the US version, and so far for the last 3 weeks the japanese update has been working absolutely flawlessly with everything i've thrown at it.

I guess I can wait till they get the update on the psp website and download the eboot, if not wait till the next update, no biggie.

The background changer is still there.

BTW, "just-fit" works great for browsing the forums.

So after a bit of searching around, I guess the only difference they made was to patch a security hole (or in our worlds a homebrew advance) that they found in the JPN version.

I thought we'd be getting something extra, but i guess not.

Oh well, now everyone that was waiting has it--yay.
Because it's perfectly logical not to install an update that is not from an American site even though it is the exact same update as the American one releasing a month later.
they are not BYTE-by-BYTE identical

US 2.00 = 15.9 MB (16,732,033 bytes)

JP 2.00 = 15.9 MB (16,699,585 bytes)

How are we shit out of luck if they are exactly the same firmware?

As proof, check the md5 checksums. They are exactly the same:

JPN version 2.0: 50c7032754835b588319c1a6c652cdc0
NA version 2.0: 50c7032754835b588319c1a6c652cdc0

I am at work so I cant check but I hear that you cant update the JP 2.0 to the US 2.0. So if you have the JP version you got to wait to the next US update to upgrade. Anyone know if thats true?

They are exactly the same, EXACTLY!

Down to the last bit, they are EXACTLY the SAME!

They even have EXACTLY the SAME md5 checksums, check for yourself if you don't believe me but I garauntee you they BOTH equal 50c7032754835b588319c1a6c652cdc0.

But when you think about it, isn't having the same version number enough? It's not like the US version is 2.01 or something.

[edit] They do have one TINY difference, the legal info is worded differently. Is that such a big deal?

Na your right about features, but I was thinking about the JP version voiding warranties. This is not a big deal for me since I dont think anyone would check that if I took it back to like Walmart, and because I dont plan on taking mine back. But its something I was thinking about which is why I asked the Q.

Actually, they were talking about this over at the Sony forums and said they did an md5 checksum. Although they look the same they suspect that they must have done some bugfixes, they said "you can't really check the plumbing with the checksum". I'm sure they did do something to this version, or there wouldn't have been a delay. Also, as someone else previously stated they aren't exactly the same. Stop being such a douche.

Rewording the legal agreement is a huge change.

I can't stand how some morons have convinced themselves that there is some sort of "secret" change or bugfix that Sony didn't report.
I tried installing 2.0, but it says "The game could not be started. (80020148)". What am I supposed to do?
I had the same thing happen to me. Make sure the PSP is plugged in into the AC adaptor, and that the AC adaptor is plugged into the wall.

2.0 JPN firmware users rejoice--no problems at all with warranties.

Oh yea and fury--you ruffled a few feathers with people it seems when you went so far as saying "you are shit out of luck"...that came off like a bit of an arrogant thing to say--considering they are identical as far as what normal folks like us are going to use the PSP for.

"a number of US 2.0 users are reporting their PSPs freezing after exiting the internet browser and not being able to be shut off, we are currently working on fixing this problem. Also, many people are using "portals" for their psp, while online "portals" are just sites fited to the PSP offline portals are a danger to your NA 2.0 firmware PSP, JP 2.0 PSP have a different security so the "offline portals" work, for this reason many "offline portals" will not work on the NA 2.0 PSP. As for the ability to be upgrade from the JP 2.0 firmware to the NA 2.0 firmware we currently have no comment. We thank all of you for your time and your backing of Sony."

First of all, how is saying "you are shit out of luck" arrogant? It's a common saying and I have never seen anyone (until now) regard it as arrogant. It is nothing more than me stating the truth, which is if you already have the japanese 2.0 and you want the NA 2.0, you're out of luck. I was in FL last year when all of those hurricanes hit us and one of the news anchors said a certain city was "SOL", which mean shit out of luck, I didn't see anyone get their "feathers ruffled" about that.

Secondly, where did you get that huge quote from? I didn't see that anywhere in the IGN article.

For those that don't know, check out psp.us.playstation.com. It hasn't been officialy announced yet (at least not to my knowledge), but there are a Hot Shots and WipEout background for download.

Also, if you access it on your PC it redirects you, so make sure you do it on your PSP.

The problem wasn't in the saying itself--it's in the context of how it was said. If that's over your head, fine whatever, I really don't care. Just trying to shed some light because you didn't seem to understand what all the fuss about. Just trying to give a probable answer.

Anyway, that quote was from the front page of pspcrazy.com

Sorry, but I have read this multiple times and I still don't see how it could be insulting in any manner. If you believe it's over my head, why don't you bother explaining how it could be insulting within the context, oh great master of the English language.

Like I said man, whatever--if you want to waste your time arguing over something on an internet message board, please be my guest.

I'm done, enjoy your NA 2.0.
