lizard people
are not happy.

I was 4 when the original miniseries came out, and the creepy
skin-peeling, guinea pig-eating, laser-shooting
, aliens scared the bejeezus out of me. So much that I couldn't stop watching the show.

As it turns out, they're remaking the series (a reboot, I think):

Watching the original today is both corny and nostalgic. I hope this one works out in the same way.

Get rid of the spoilers in this post/title man.. 99% of the population hasn't seen the original series. It will be more enjoyable not knowing what to expect.

There had better be an alien biting the head off of a bird or else. That and I want some alien lizard baby crawling out of the birth canal.

Saw the marathon of the original on tv today. That shit was creepy and amazing. Based on the short preview thing on Hulu, I think I like the old cast a lot more, but we'll see. Also brown coats piss me off!

EDIT: apparently the SyFy marathon was BS. There is much more via thewb. more V marathon tomorrow!

I dunno if I'll watch it.

I saw the original when I was eleven. I was captivated by it. My mom, who rarely watched anything sci-fi, was less enthralled, and called out some of the sillier or more predictable stuff, much to my awe.

I'm not sure what the point of the new series is. I can't believe that 99% of people haven't seen it or have no idea, given how iconic the original was. It may have been campy and cheesy at times, but Diana's diet and John's face lift were not just known by a bunch of geeks. V was widely watched, and even those who didn't watch it heard about it afterward.

Pretenama, bitches!

the original v mini series and series were the shit especial the mini series it was an event. i doesnt hapen too much nowdays where just about everyone watches one show religiously and then discusses it leaving those who missed it feeling left out. watching he marathon today i was surprised by all the themes going on in the series it was alot deeper then id known then and some of the sfx are still cool to see.

damn diana was hott as was that blonde chick she used to fight with in the series. they dont make quality tv like this anymore last series that was a big deal like this that i recall was amazing stories.

So I DVR'd the original miniseries and final battle on SYFY and I'm unsure as to whether I should watch the original stuff first or watch the new one first? What do people think? I have never seen the original and kind of want to be surprised (although in researching whether or not to watch the series I have found out a lot of spoilers anyway). On the other hand I don't really want 10 hours of programming sitting on my DVR for the next 4 months or however long the new series is.

^ It's hard to not watch the original and see that the sci-fi aspect was scotch taped to another script. They did quite well with it, though the
Nazi Germany
influence is very obvious.

Apples and oranges, I think. The original series is going to be corny as all hell to people who've never seen it before. But for me that's part of the appeal.

That, and Robert Englund playing the nerdy-do-gooder alien role that seems better suited for Rick Moranis.

I'm very nostalgic for the original, so I'd recommend at least watching the first miniseries before the new one. But I don't think it will be that big of a deal either way.

That is almost as good as the 'instructions for safe' use on single-use toothpicks. Yes some of our consumers ARE dim and these instructions are for them. Everyone else move along.
smile

I'll repeat: how can this be any good without The Beastmaster?

I was a huge fan of V when I was a kid. My father and I even made a kite spray painted with their "swastika" on it.

Was he the one that was walking around when you first see him saying "I am just" and he got the one guy out of the nitrogen?

I dididnt remember must about the series till sunday due to scifi. Only thing I remembered the one that got high and ate the mouse next to the bumb at the dumpster. Everytime someone talked about V thats all I could ever think of. It was a really good show for its time and still is I think today.

Looks like more left wing propaganda from the liberal media. Stupid humans can't solve their problems so aliens show up, impose their big government on everyone and fix all the world's problems including universal health care.

Can't wait for the season premiere.

I didn't notice that till you pointed it out that it was him. I'm used to seeing him as Fred Krueger so I didn't even notice it was him. I have seen some of the people in other things but couldn't remember where and he was one of them.

Doesn't sound like a good strategy for marketing the program, but I watch enough damn tv as it is. I can deal with 4 weeks on and off.

I think they also are only doing 9 episodes. Anyone that is in New York did they do the promo they were planning? In case you dont know what it was they were going to have "V" wrote in the sky at different spots in New York. ABC wanted to just do it but changed their mind and said online that they were going to do it so people didn't think it was another attack.

man watching the old series i cant help but laugh at the stuff going on in it.
seriously how many times can someone seal the enemies uniforms and sneak onto their ship before they tighten up security? and why use conventional weapons when you can use the aliens laser gun which aparently dont need reloading? and wow diana was a bigtime power slut or what and damn near every guy she slept with died at some point.

i wont even touch the goofy love triangle between the mom her daughter and that guy. and why is it the humans have security cameras in their facilities but the aliens dont? this is one show that with age loses alot but the alien chicks are still hott. one of them from the original mini series played one of zods followers in superman 2 i believe.

The delay was announced about 2 months ago. They just finished shooting the 4th episode and won't starting shooting again until January. If the ratings aren't good this could easily get canceled since there's no real investment beyond the first 4 eps and V is very expensive to produce. Plus they're already changing the executive producer.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/V-Switches-Showrunner-1011532.aspx

ABC's new alien-invasion drama is going through another change: Scott Rosenbaum has been named executive producer of V, TVGuide.com has confirmed. Rosenbaum, an executive producer on NBC's Chuck, has stepped in to replace Scott Peters as showrunner. Peters will remain as an executive producer, along with Jace Hall. This isn't the first change for the series. In September, the network announced that V, which is shot in Vancouver, would go on hiatus after Episode 4, then continue airing the remaining nine of the original 13-episode order after the Winter Olympics, which run Feb. 12-28. Production on Episode 4 wrapped this week. The cast and crew will head back to Vancouver in January to continue working on the remaining episodes.

V
premieres Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 8/7c on ABC.

2 actors from Firefly, 1 from Lost, 1 from Battlestar Galactica. The casting directors certainly know their audience.

You forgot Joel Gretsch from The 4400 (and various other nerd things). Laura Vandervoort was also in Smallville if that's your thing. Definitely a nerdplosion of talent.

As for the pilot. fucking wow. That was incredible, now I'm hoping more than ever for a full pickup. Easily the best network pilot I've seen since Lost. I really feel like this is the spiritual successor to Lost that ABC hoped Flash Forward would be. I just hope they realize it, I'll be awaiting the premiere ratings with anticipation.

Egads. How gay. The original four hour miniseries was and still is a great allegory for nazis taking over the globe, and while I didn't expect the new series to follow the template to the letter, there's just a lot of things that I just plain do NOT like. The visitors have all ready been to Earth? The stupid giant face of ugly Anna being projected upon New Yorkers? "They healed me! I got no pain but still wheeled my non crippled ass to church for dramatic effect!" "Is there such a thing as an ugly visitor?" Oh for Gods sake. Talk about a total rush job, no build up or suspense for anything just the quickest sloppiest way to get from point A to B. I'm sorry but I think my love for the original is hindering my enjoyment of this new one. I'll still watch to see how it plays out. I'm hoping it being serialized will flesh out a lot more of the fine details.

Aaaand I missed it. Silly me, forgetting to go back one hour for Central time. Hope this is viewable online soon. It's been a while since I've used Hulu. Is ABC on there? I don't torrent, just wanna watch it.

As scooby doo might say, "Ruh-roh!"

 I'm not a huge sci-fi watcher so I didn't catch that. Only actor I recognized was Morris Chestnut (and I can't yet decide if his character twist is neat/heartwrenching or corny - maybe both).
Egads. How gay.
I don't recall any mention of homosexuals on the show. Whatever do you mean?

not a bad start to the series. Putting a show on Hiatus after 4 episodes really puts a target on the show's back to be shot by the cancellation sniper due to low ratings.

I enjoyed the first episode. reprilians in government... sounds a little too much like real life.

some of the things I thought moved a little fast, but that's ok, it's a pilot.

the news about the 4 episode thing and producer change is a little disheartening though.

I liked it and hope it sticks around. Probably won't be a BSG but still good non the less. Who was from BSG that was mentioned above?

I do agree that it went very fast into revealing the visitors. Yes, we all know but most people haven't watched the original. And no Star Wars theme music?

I did love the part about Independence Day being a rip off of everything else!

And just how was Anna ugly?

Hopefully there will be a repeat on TV as I forgot to tell the 'rents and they're not up with the Hulu.

Wow.. captivating first episode. I'd love to see the V on the head commander V, if you catch my drift. ;)

Saw this tonight, it was great. Some bad dialogue in a few scenes, but otherwise definitely enjoyed more than what is usually on tv or movies. Never saw the original. Glad to see Scott Wolf back on tv.

Rekha Sharma, she played Tory who was President Roslin's chief of staff (I had to look up that name, I'm not that big of a geek). She actually wasn't in the first ep, I spotted her for a split second in the teaser for next week.

And just how was Anna ugly?

She's not. Some people are just warped.

Yea it was ok. Went into it not knowing anything and almost turned it off halfway through, but it picked up near the end. It does feel a little bit like LOST and I think I'll keep watching.

Isnt there a religion or group that believes that the world leaders are reptiles with human skin? And they have seen some of the presidents change their skin?

Also. These types of movies/shows are preparing people to never trust any visitor from another world if it ever happens. Can't there be one show/movie where the visitors are good? Yeesh...

I liked it but think the original was better. I was shocked at first that they said they wanted water from Earth because that was the secret that they were keeping from people in the original. So I guess it went from Earth's water to just killing everyone. I think this show would have been better if scifi had it but all shows like this I tend to think that. I read on scifiwire that people liked it but I think it was the new york times hated it.

Not the kinda series to watch if subtlety is your thing.

Gotta love the way they introduce a concept, reinforce it, and then proceed to blugeon the viewer over the head with it.

Example: Devotion. The toppling Crucifix and "oh, god" comments were fine. But then we need 2 more 5 minute sermons from the preacher spelling it out, and because that wasn't enough the mom needs to repeat it one more damn time with the closing line. OK I GET IT THE Vs WANT US TO WORSHIP THEM, move on!!1!

In regards to the second parapraph:  Wow.

I kept looking at Anna the alien chick and found her strangely attractive. Then I realize she's deliciousness from Firefly. No wonder.
