V Series Debut: SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER to SPOILER on ABC 11/3!

Enjoyable first episode. Not great, but better than a lot of stuff on tv.
Definitely worth watching to see where it goes. Hopefully ABC doesn't screw it over when it returns from hiatus. (apparently the hiatus is to keep it from having to compete with the Olympics and a few other shows but it still sucks in building up a viewer base).
In regards to the second parapraph:  Wow.
You will be the first to die from the reptilian aliens!

Anyone else find the skin pealing to reveal the underlying reptile skin to be really fucking gross? That shit creeps me out

I'm calling it right now. The twist will be that the V's are actually the nice guys they say they are and the resistance are actually the bad guys. You heard it here first.
Yea it was ok. Went into it not knowing anything and almost turned it off halfway through, but it picked up near the end. It does feel a little bit like LOST and I think I'll keep watching.

Isnt there a religion or group that believes that the world leaders are reptiles with human skin? And they have seen some of the presidents change their skin?

Also. These types of movies/shows are preparing people to never trust any visitor from another world if it ever happens. Can't there be one show/movie where the visitors are good? Yeesh...

Wasn't
ALF a good alien?
? What about
ET
?

Thing I don't get is why are they calling them the Vs when if I understood the original right the v was what the resistance used and not the aliens. It was ment to be victory. I also wonder who will have the half alien and half human baby. I'm betting if they do it, it will be an alien that will have it.

Yeah the old jewish man in the original series caught those kids spray painting a wall and showed them how to paint the V. Telling them it meant victory.

No, ET wasn't. The sequel to ET was Independence Day.

I thought the first episode was great. I'm not familiar with the original series but I hope the current one stays on the air. I really enjoyed it.

Ok now I'm interested in checking this out. The original came out the year I was born so I missed out on it.

Anyplace online have the episode available yet?

Good showing in the ratings. There will almost certainly be a dropoff from the first ep but as long as it isn't too bad V stands a pretty good chance.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Ratings-V-NCIS-1011569.aspx

ABC's remake of the 1980s sci-fi miniseries V drew big numbers, the best rating for any new series premiere this season.

V attracted 13.9 million viewers, easily outperforming NCIS (Tuesday's most-watched show with 19.4 million viewers) among adults 18 to 49. It was also the best 8 o'clock debut by a new series since ABC's Lost.

The big boost from V gave ABC — which also aired a Dancing with the Stars results show (14.5 million viewers) and The Forgotten (7.6 million viewers) — a fighting chance against CBS' powerhouse Tuesday lineup. Ultimately, the Eye 's combo of NCIS: Los Angeles (15 million viewers) and The Good Wife (12 million) led the network to the overall win for the night.

NBC beat out Fox as the networks went head-to-head with two-hour editions of Biggest Loser (9 million viewers) and So You Think You Can Dance (6.1 million viewers). At the CW, 90210 (2.1 million viewers) was steady and Melrose Place improved slightly to 1.5 million viewers.

Oh man, that makes me feel ancient.

At least it's on ABC. They might give it a legit chance. Not like those fucktards at Fox and CBS cancelling Firefly and Jericho instead of investing in it with the same zeal they do for much inferior shows on the same network.

I hope the Lost fanbase sticks around after the run ends and migrates to V, to keep ratings well above the danger zone.
Oh man, that makes me feel ancient.
It came out a whole year before I was born. :p

I just watched the premiere. It was quality stuff, keeping my attention throughout. It's nice to see Elizabeth Mitchell and Alan Tudyk on the show. I have a feeling I'll miss it once it goes on hiatus after episode four.

Hiatus after episode 4? Well, this show just signed its own death warrant. A new series can't be doing that shit.
Hiatus after episode 4? Well, this show just signed its own death warrant. A new series can't be doing that shit.
I dunno, I think more people watched the premiere than did every episode of Dollhouse combined.

Possibly. Jericho was pulling pretty good ratings when CBS pulled it for 3-4 months and that completely killed it's momentum. A hiatus like that can work if the show has built an audience and ends the arc properly. CBS didn't let Jericho do the latter and 4 eps isn't enough for V to do the former. V certainly isn't doomed at this point but it's definitely fighting an uphill battle.

Dushku needs to fire her agent. She's the same unconvincing "badass" character in everything she does. Yeah, girl power, we get it. ::yawn::
Oh man, that makes me feel ancient.
V came out a year or two before I was born. However thanks to reruns well marathons I was able to see this when I was younger. Also when scifi had the marathon this past sunday it brought all the memories back. I might have to pick up the dvds from amazon some time. Only bad thing is when the new series comes to dvd and bd I'm thinking the old might come to bd as well.

I don't think i've ever actually seen the original but I did see a lot of Earth:Final Conflict. E:FC used to come on after a show I watched and occassionally I'd watch it. If I recall correctly (and i probably don't) is there a lot of similarity b/w these shows? Maybe that's why E:FC wasn't that popular if it was a rip of V.
Dushku needs to fire her agent. She's the same unconvincing "badass" character in everything she does. Yeah, girl power, we get it. ::yawn::
i think she's more convincing in those roles than in the girly roles. In the New Guy she was tomboyish. sameish with Bring It On. I thought she was great in Buffy (less so in Angel) but when you look at Dollhouse the times when she's weakest is when she has to be girly. The profiler in episode 2 (as PA put it) looked like she was a stripper dressed as a profiler. When she was a mother, when she was a college dink these were times when she was most girly and least believeable. Unfortunately due to the nature of the show she's girly in maybe 94% of her screen time.

As long as they advertise it a lot they should keep a lot of their viewers. What would be cool is if they reair the first 4 episodes in a marathon one night right before they start the season next year.

what!!?!? rebuild up hype? now you're talking crazy sense and if we've learned one thing from Kaz "Go get another Job" Hirai and Sony's Home and Nintendo's effluent Virtual Console releases it's that sense has no place in the real world.

They should do 2 episodes on 2 nights the week before or 1 episode over 4 nights, and 4 episodes on one of the weekend days before the Tuesday re-premiere. I demand it since I will forget the story and the re-premiere date!

Watched the premier Sunday night and just watched tonight's episode.

I'm really digging it so far. Sucks that it's just 4 episodes and then a break though.

Pretty crappy moments in the begining with the mom and the kid.
And then a fastfoward to revealing lots of plot in 5 minutes instead of 5 episodes later.
But It looks like it could go somewhere.
Its a shame this isn't on HBO or showtime. It would be totally bad ass if it was.
Did anyone else catch the nod to another sci-fi show on tonight's ep?
i misread your post. I was looking for the 'nod' at the end of the episode. Unless it's Indy I missed it.

Agreed. She is the next Michelle Rodriguez. As "actresses" they only have two reactions: snappy comebacks and an ugly sneer.

I think they need to go back and see what made women like Segorney Weaver so compelling.
^ It's hard to not watch the original and see that the sci-fi aspect was scotch taped to another script. They did quite well with it, though the
Nazi Germany
influence is very obvious.
You caught onto this when you were 4? I guess my kids are dullards. Wait, no, the teacher said Caitlyn was smart enough for the next grade the first day of school.
You must carry around an additional brain pack.

I drank Milwaukee's best liberally at 16 and listen to Mojo Nixon.

There's no accounting for anything.

EDIT: Surely not taste, I mean.

What's this talk about a hiatus?

Good episode.. not as exciting as the first one.

Does anyone else get really annoyed by that whiny FBI agent (Erica)? I never took a liking to her, because I thought her acting was horrible, and throughout last night's episode, I just wanted to throw my remote at her. I hate her stupid kid too, with all that teenage angst. Ugh.

Yeah they are both so annoying.
Maybe they will kill her and her kid off of the show.
But i doubt it given the story line of the original show.

Episode 2 slowed things down a little. It was pretty good .

wow if this show is already on hiatus then yep its dead damn shame too ive been manin to watch it but shows like this one ( budget wise) need time to catch an audience and most networks dont have the patience they used to. would have probably been better off being made on scif fi channel. btw is it better or worse than the original series?

Last night's episode was a HUGE letdown compared to the previous week. On top of the lack of action, absolutely nothing happened to advance the story. Complete filler episode through and through.

Between that and the hiatus after week 4 pretty much means i'll be doing something else next tuesday.

I'm late, but I just watched the first episode on Hulu, and man was it good, but there were some things that I didn't like:

1) The in-your-face symbolism. I actually yelled it out when the crucifix fell down in the opening scene. This is a problem I have with a lot of TV shows and movies these dyas: they seem to have forgotten about the fine art of subtlety.

2) They revealed way too much in the first episode
. I know anyone who knows about or watched the original series knows they're supposed to turn out to be hostile lizard people, but they could have left that for a later episode and just build up to it. Since they revealed that in the pilot, I feel like there's no big reveal to look forward to now
.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has heard, but people are trying to equate the plot of this show to the goings-on of the Obama Administration: The message of hope and change, universal healthcare, the whole savior angle, just to name a few.

I know it's BS of course, especially since this show has been in production since sometime last years before he was even elected, but it's fun to watch the tin-foil hat types when this sort fo thing happens.

I disagree on one point. This is a remake why bother trying to hide the 'true nature' of the visitors. I for one fully appreciate the fact that was revealed in the first episode. If they didn't spill it right away it would have to be this big issue.. and sincenoone is going to be surprised why waste precious episodes on something we already know.

The pace is definitely fucked up. The first episode revealed too much because they need to build an audience (which worked, ratings were great), but now they're on episode two and the pace is what it should be for a show that intends on being around a long time, but people are bummed because they were still expecting a miniseries' pace. And the 4-5 month hiatus is just going to cripple the momentum the show got from the premiere.

The show is too predictable though. They showed that stupid graffiti video his mom found on his myspace/facebook/whateverlameasswebsiteidiotkidsusenow, so that's where the V symbol comes from...this kid obviously gets all hardcore anti-V later and starts tagging V property in an angst-ridden rage while listening to AFI on his iPod.
Did anyone else catch the nod to another sci-fi show on tonight's ep?
No what was it? I will have to watch it again to see if I catch it. Usually I pick up on stuff like that if it is a nod to a show I like.

I don't think her acting is good but it seems about the same at times as the rest of the cast. Also I can't stand her kid or his friend. Infact I think the guy that plays her kid and the one that plays her kids friend are both bad actors and should be killed off.

The kid is annoying. None of the other acting/characters have bothered me at all. Acting's not great, but not terrible. Much better than Flash Forward which is the other new fall show I've been watching.

Elizabeth Mitchell is a good actress so the blame there should be place on the material. Her son and his friend...yeah, they just suck.

It was pretty subtle. The address of the warehouse they were raiding was 4400. The actor playing the priest was the lead on The 4400. I never watched it but it seemed like a nice tip of the hat.

4400 wasn't one that I watched so thats chances are why I didn't get it. The playing the priest isnt the only one that was on 4400 is he? I thought I read some place that one or 2 others from that show are in this. Also is it just me or does Morena Baccarin look to thin?

I feel bad that I missed that because I recognize those people all over the place. Heroes, Mental, Lie to Me, Eureka, and I think a few others.

Finally got my interweb back up and running so I can post my thoughts.

I agree with wanting to like the show but just not being impressed at all by anything that is happening. I agree with the first episode showing too much and feel that the pacing will suffer greatly from it.

I didnt see or know anything about the orignal but I am extremely annoyed at how all of the Vs just look completely human. It just feels like such a cop out. I understand that buget wise it would be hard to pull off a full costume though.

2nd episode was just bad, I dont care about this kids plot line at all. It annoyings me that within 5 seconds me was in love with a alien.

I hope this show picks up.

I like the show--I guess I'm in the minority though. Anyway, how can it possibly annoy you that the Vs look completely human? That's the point--ANYONE can be a V! It automatically builds in the tension. I mean, how lame would it be if you could spot a V because they have pointed ears or some shit? They have grown an outside appearance over their lizard skin to fool humans, how dumb would it be if they have interstellar space travel and all this advanced technology but whoops, they made a mistake in their disguises and all the Vs have 6 fingers?

I do find the kid's friend annoying, but as far as the kid himself I think any teenager would be falling all over themselves for that hot blonde alien ass, so that doesn't bother me.

Anyway, I think this is already much better after 2 episodes than Flash Forward which is the other new show I'm watching.

most of the older ones look kinda pale like elves miss the old uniforms though. the show is ok its hard to remake anything like V especially in this day and age of the internet. theres not the same amount of shock and surprise that you ot way back in the day with the original mini series. that said they should have made it darker and more sinister if you cant surprise people try to scare the shit out of them.

i will give them this they did one thing better than the original and thats explaining why some V's wouldnt want to take over earth. it makes sense. the little phantasm orbs are kinda gay though especially since theyre like a lame version of the phantasm ones and they look alot like the ones on the new stargate show.now if the tall man shows up as a V then ill get excited BOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a reason why this could not just be a movie?
with the way this new series is going itd have been better suited as a movie. the way it is now its drags alot not to mention all the extra unnecessary characters.
