go scroll down some... there is live feed from the apple steve jobs keynote

"New iPod announced! The new iPod, as speculated, features video capabilities and the wider display, but it’s still a music-first device.

The device will feature a 2.5-inch display, QVGA resolution (320 x 240), and will MPEG-4 h.264 (natch), and presumably Quicktime.

The new iPod will be 30% thinner than the current 20GB iPod, and will feature a 60GB version and editions of both in black. The 20GB should go for $299, and the 60GB for $399. They’ll be shipping next week.

Stevie has iTunes 6.0 up there—only about a month after introducing iTunes 5.0.

iTunes 6.0 will feature video downloads (big surprise, right?)—at launch over 2,000 music videos will be made available at a cost of $1.99 apiece."

I don't get the point. :O

The only need of videos on a portable device is to watch porn in public restrooms.

I dont know. I just dont think people want to see movies on a small screen. I think its a fad.

Thats just my opinion though.....

Your sentences, as javeryh pointed out, are contradictory.

This would be exciting news to me, except I'm pissed instead because I bought a 60 GB iPod less than a month ago. If only I had waited a few weeks!

Any way I could still return mine for the new one?

Same, here. A few weeks back I bought the then 'new' 20 gig iPod.

So can I return it to Best Buy and replace it with the new one?

I've never seen apple.com so slow as it is right now. It's usually one of the quickest sites on the net. It's now as slow as CAG is sometimes (Truth, not a slam.) between the video iPod and the new iMacs it's one damn big day for Apple.

OMG, I got my first 504 Gateway Timeout EVER for Apple.

Holy consumer interest Batman!

Meh; where are the intel-based macs? I can't wait to ditch this fucking Dell (my first and only non-mac)!

Free advice: those of you interested in buying a black iPod, buy this as well: Link. Trust me, the black ones show scratches really easily (like, look at your iPod the wrong way and it'll scratch easy).

I actually expected two things the video iPod and the first Intel based Power Books. I don't expect a full Intel Mac tower system until spring.

I bought a cheap eMac (My old iMac died.) to get me through the year until the Intel machines hit the market. I didn't see the point dropping a couple grand on technology that may not even be in new hardware within 12 months.

Sony must be *crying*.....Since the PSP, only selling point is the UMD movies!!!

*ha*

Return it to the store.

Yeah I couldn't get on the site for a while. It took me ten minutes to get to the page....

wow PAD and mykevermin both have Mac's??? Can the be friends??

I've never owned a Windows computer either but I really want the new Mactel.

Shit, and I just used my replacement plan 3 weeks ago at BB to get a 60GB color. What do you think my odds are of making a good enough argument to be able to "return" the color and upgrade to video?

There's just no way to keep up. I got a 40GB right before the price drop but since I got mine engraved I was SOL. I paid more for the 40GB than the 60GB dropped to a week after I bought it. I'm pissed but I'm very happy with my iPod. The 60GB video one for $400 looks really sweet in black though - plus it's smaller than my 40GB one...

I am just waiting for the "smart" or "hackers" or "homebrewers" community to get a hold of this so I can rip dvds and then stick them on my ipod video if I bought one. I could then get real use out of my netflix. I could watch a movie on day on my breaks at work.

The tools to do that already exist, and have for some time now...
2.5 inch screen? WTF?
yeah, other than showing off home movies of the kids or something when you aren't home I don't see what the point of this is... I guess podcasting could be interesting and it might encourage film students to make some cool stuff but I don't know... it's not something that would sell me on an iPod if I didn't have one already...

The only thing that would sell me on an Ipod (since I already have an mp3 player) is if they made one really durable, so it wouldn't break if I fell off my bike and dropped it on a sidewalk.

We also both like the Dead Kennedys, it turns out. I'd gladly buy him several pints of Yeungling Lager if I ever get back to Pittsburgh, truth be told (but not the Black and Tan; good god that shit was bad).

My Dell died a few weeks ago, so for my internet fix I turned to my 2nd gen iBook which had been sitting in my basement. OS 9.2 worked just fine, but I couldn't get OS X to boot up. Strange thing is, when I initialized the whole hd (all 6GB of it), the computer *still* crashed when booting up using the Jaguar (whichever animal 10.2 was named after) install discs. I gave up at that point. Only problem I ever had with that piece of shit after 6 years, 2 in the basement. My Dell, OTOH, has left me to go to the repair center twice in just under two years (once in the middle of christmas break when I planned on finishing my master's thesis, how fucking convenient).

As far as exchanging iPods, I just bought my wife a nano for her birthday; if you already just rec'd a new ipod, you're out of luck. Me? I initially bought her a mini, only to have the nano debut the next morning (imagine my unhinged jaw hitting the floor). Apple was kind enough (or greedy enough, if you prefer) to email me asking if I wanted a nano instead; I bit.

You are lucky you didn't engrave it. I bought my 40GB back in March and there have been a ton of newer models that have come out since... so annoying but that's the way it goes with technology. At least I don't have one of those 3G iPods with the row of buttons on the top... that would suck.
anyone can recommend where to find the best podcast site? the one with nice design and functionality? thanx
iTunes.

javeryh, whattsa matter with the 3G ipods? I stopped paying attention after I jumped on a 2G 20GB 3 years back (which reminds me, I wanted to start an OT thread earlier in the day about the most embarrassing artist on people's iPods - mine being Kylie Minogue).

There's nothing wrong with them except they have a row of buttons on the top for play, ff, rw, etc. It's just ugly.

ive wrecked my bike a few times with my ipod, and iver dropped it from around waist level to concrete at least 4 or 5 times (2 times landing in puddles) and its still going strong...beat to hell but strong

As long as it is within 30 days (or w/e the amount of days at the store you bought it; I got mine at BB so it is 30) you should still be able to return. I hope so anyways, I just got mine 2 or 3 weeks ago.
