"Apple Computer this week warned customers that some Video iPods sold over the past five weeks were shipped with a computer virus capable of infecting computers running Microsoft Windows and exposing them to attacks by hackers.

"Apple said the virus was embedded in less than 1 percent of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006. Greg Joswiak, vice president of iPod product marketing at Apple, said the company traced the virus back to a Windows machine used to test iPod software in the manufacturing process."

And I love this next line...

"Joswiak declined to say how many devices were affected, citing the potential impact on investors closely watching the company's earnings reports today. [Italics added.] But he said Apple has corrected the problem and that all video iPods the company is currently shipping are virus-free."

This is just too rich. Not only do they send out a virus ladened product, not only do they just send a warning, and not a recall, but the vice president basically says they care more about stock value and earnings reports than giving the full facts to the public.

Now, Apple isn't the only company to have this happpen to...

"The iPod news comes just days after McDonald's Japan recalled MP3 players it gave away as prizes to customers after learning that the devices shipped with spyware designed to steal sensitive data that users entered at financial and e-commerce Web sites. Last year, multimedia giant Creative acknowledged that roughly 4,000 of the company's Zen Neeon MP3 players shipped with a Windows computer worm embedded inside."

But at least the last two gave either hard numbers or had a recall.

The funny thing is, I'm sure there are people thinking, "Well, the virus originated from a windows PC, so that proves the superiority of Apple."
So that's how Apple is finally going to beat Microsoft - by crashing computers via a virus loaded on the iPod. Genius. Pure Genius.
Apple 4 the win!

Yes its jacked up that Apple is worried more about money, then customers. But thats business. We could spend the rest of our lives bitching about the companies that have done us wrong in some way.
But Justin Long told me Apple products couldn't get viruses!
The Apple product doesn't have an Apple virus, but a Windows virus. Therefore, Apple products are still virus-free since it can't damage a Mac.
First the Macbook overheating issue and now this. gdmit apple
The fires were caused by laptop batteries. The batteries were made by Sony and sold to Apple. Therefore, Sony sucks and Apple... also sucks.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I never understood why people would want to watch films on a small screen.
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I never understood why people would want to watch films on a small screen.
Because their buddies are doing it, therefore, they have to do it as well. Thus describes the entire iPod craze to begin with.
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I never understood why people would want to watch films on a small screen.
You're right, full-length movies on the iPod are dumb. What does work are video pocasts, music videos, 1/2 or less hour tivo'd shows like My name is Earl, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, etc. Short shows with comedy as the primary value rather than surround sound/ video resolution work to entertain between classes, waiting for the bus, etc.
I'm sure they could have spun this better.
1 out of every 1000 Ipods gets a free virus hunting game for Windows?

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I never understood why people would want to watch films on a small screen.

got one and I definitely haven't watched a single vid on it (got it for 30 gb of space)

Apple sure has been getting a little dickish... laptop overheating as was mentioned, Steve Jobs' stock options fraud, sweatshop labor in iPod manufacturing plants, denials about iPod battery problems, crackdowns on rumor sites, etc., etc., etc.

I'm an Apple user and supporter, but it's getting to be a bit too much.

The bigger question where did this Virus come from?

Was is a Media protection program that Apple is planing to use to defend there Ipod media or was this virus from "The Liqud Sliver Network" that hairy was exploring?

Apple is just full of it and this is bulltar. I could only imagine that Apple is making Viruses for the Upcoming Vista...

What in tarnation is a Vista? The only Vista I know is
the Vista Hill in Super Mario RPG.

Vista means "view" in Spanish.

Windows. View.

It's a play on words.
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I never understood why people would want to watch films on a small screen.
I used to watch stuff on my iriver, before it was stolen. Mostly episodes of Home Movies, though I also had Garden State and Fight Club on there for a time. You think that screen is small, just try watching something in 2.35:1.
I use it to watch pornography and masterbate in public.

Makes me feel like a big man.
As long as you don't get your man-goo on anyone...

I love it. Apple is the carrier only. They'll spread the virus but never show symptoms itself.

Why do I find this so amusing?
