Viva Piñata - General Discussion & Piñata Trading - Demo Out Now
it's hard for me to tell if you're joking or not, something tells me MS will do this...or at least a best buy/viva pinata faceplate of some sort
EB games already has one
802464b.jpg
ships 10/24 $19.99

I'll try to get it from TRU, I need to exchange some games from the B2G1 sale, I'll call them today to see if they have it, if not I'll try again until the finally get it in.
Anybody picking it up? I want to hear some impressions.
I'm going to stop by GS and pick it up around 4-5, so I can surprise the wife with it.

Then we can have a battle royal to see who gets use of the TV, since GH2 arrived from GameFly today!
fucking UPS never got to GS; looks like I'm not going out there today.
Yea, I stopped off at a local EB Games and they didn't have any. I was going to visit the GS across the street but decided against it. I'm hoping Fry's Electronics is going to have a $10 off sale on VP just like they did with Gears. Here's to hoping. :D

Tried Gamestop on the way home tonight and no dice. Looking forward to messing around with this game.
Just noticed that Target is offering a $10 giftcard in next week's ad. Guess I'll pick it up Sunday!
Good catch man. I'm going to hold off for that.

Same here! Man I want this game bad.

Just exchanged one of my B2G1 games for it at TRU. It comes in a special case and its looks ghetto. Will try out the game after work hopefully.

i cant beleive i havent seen any reviews, and not too many impressions yet (just the one in this thread)

is this title doomed to get poor exposure? it sure looks fun, and no impression related article i have read had any negatives at all.

Only review so far is Games Radar which gave it a 8 out of 10. Link in OP

I picked up mine today; I'm going to let my wife open it, so I haven't tried it yet.

This is the "LE" version (doesn't cost more, and will only be available until early December): it comes in a shitty ass plastic case (think that one DVD box for the Simpsons that everyone hated, covered in a plastic slipcase like the multiple LE games have).

That's all the impression I have right now. Just a shitty case.

Hmmm.

That's tempting. The only thing is that I was planning on spending my EB credit on it, not buying it with my basically non existant cash that's meant to be being saved in case I can find a wii at best buy.

Now I'm not sure what to do.

Picked mine up at EB today. I love this game. Everything about it screams high-presentation like we expect with Rare, but on top of that I am sucker for these types of games. Many just won't like it (like the loser 40 year old working at EB who made fun of me for buying it) but two hours in and I am hooked.

Between this and GOW my weekend is shaping up to be pretty good :)

Just tried it out. Loving it so far. Raise your animals, plant seeds, build houses, make them do the nasty. Only played for about an hour, didnt get too much into it, the game does look kiddie but the gameplay is very general for anyone to enjoy. Haven't figured out how or what multiplayer is. On the instructions it says that 2 players can play, this is what the call family mode, two players have the same control of the garden. There's mention about trading items with users, but thats it. I'm sure I'll get deeper into it later, but so far I'm hooked.

Thanks for the impressions.

I'm probably gonna grab this at Target on Sunday (so's I can get that $10 gift card).

man im interested in this game, but 50 bucks seems a little steep. I guess ill rent it first to see if it's worth it. Can anyone who already has it tell me about how long the game will probably last, and if there's much replayability

Ok, I just put the game in to give it a whirl and didn't put it down for 4 hours. By contrast, I played gears of war only 2 hours the night I got it. I went to school for computer animation, and I have to say the graphics are some of the best I've ever seen. Sure, they're overly cute, but the animation is phenominal. I didn't find the gameplay particularly childish. If you enjoy the sims, or animal crossing, this game is a no brainer.
Can anyone post pics of the "LE" case? Thanks.
I added some to the OP. The actual game disc isn't in there right now as I would have to kill my wife to remove it from the 360. (Maybe later).

Oh, and the instruction manual is behind that "Child Online Safety" thing. It has the same shape to it as the case.

I think I'll wait until December to pick up Viva Pinata. I've hated those cases ever since Fox has been releasing them with the new Simpsons seasons (I will admit that they're interesting, but they don't feel like solid cases) and I'm still playing Gears of War with Call of Duty 3 and Project 8 in route.

The case does feel cheap.

So Shipwreck, since Mrs. Shipwreck seems to be loving it, I guess you'll be playing a lot less now ;)

I think I'm gonna head to Target and pick this up tomorrow. I've been reading some reviews and the game intrigues me. I'm a little confused though.

Is this game more towards the Animal Crossing side of non-stop digging shit up or is it closer to the Harvest Moon where you have a wider responsibility with the crops, house, and neighbors to worry about? I wish they'd put up a demo so I can understand what the game is really about.

Crap, so it looks like that LE is the only one available right now. Usually I wouldn't complain considering they're giving you a different case and not charging extra, but I hate that case. If Target only has that one, I'll hold off 'till the regular ones come in.

Never played either.

You start up with a small size garden, you soil the dirt, grow grass, then grow plants to atract wild animals, if you have certain conditions they will come and stay in your garden and become residents at that point you can get them a place to stay, breed them if the right conditions are met, and even feed them to other animals. Some of the animals pick fights with each other and you have to stop them, bad (red) pinatas will show up as well and try to cause havok. Thats the best way I could sum it up, its very addicting once you start playing thouhg, time will just fly by.

I need a little help:

How the hell do you get rid of the red piñatas? I have a red snail that showed up and my snake kicked his ass and now the snail is just hurt but the doc can't cure him and I can't seem to remove him with the shovel or anything else for that matter.

Ok... I know this is going to sound REALLY stupid, but is this anything like the cartoon? Where Pinatas eat candy and they get shot out of a cannon to go be a pinata at a party and have wacky adventures?

I watched the cartoon once or twice and I thought that's exactly what the game was going to be like, but it sounds alot more like some kind of sims / animal crossing game.

Its not really a spoiler. All you do is kill him with the shovel, highlight him and hit him with the A button. If he drops candy, smash it as well if your pinata eat it they will get sick. Later on in the game you unlock the Pinata Dr., you can call him over and for a fee he'll cure your pinatas. I also heard that if you kill your own pinatas sick or not, the other pinatas will start gathering behind your back and "talk" then it will be a lot harder for new residents to join your garden.

To Roufuss, its nothing like the cartoon, same characters and artwork, thats it, they don't talk or anything like that, so far this is strictly a sim. I'm seriously shocked how this game is going under the radard, its incredible.

Well, I'm not shocked it's going under the radar, since it released the same week as Gears of War and it seems everyone and their mother is hyping up and playing that. It seems like everything else released this week got shoved to the side.

And damn the cartoon for being so different... I expected the game to be something incredibly different than what it turned out to be. I thought it would be like you made a pinata and then walked around talking to other pinatas to get fat enough to use the cannon.

But hey, a sim, that sounds awesome too... the sim mode actually has a point, right, like defined goals? And how do the graphics look, great?

It even has the cartoon characters on the cover!!

That IGN review makes me even more interested.

The resource management and sour piñata aspects bring up some of the more disturbing elements present in Viva Piñata. If a piñata gets smashed, candy naturally pops out. Sounds normal. It gets creepy when all of the other piñatas rush over to eat the remains. That's not even getting into the moments when piñatas each other alive. There are also a whole host of ethical issues that pop up when you start playing. If you're short on cash, is it ok to just begin breeding piñatas to sell for a profit? Should you smack Seedos in the face with a shovel in hopes of getting a few extra seeds to plant? It's all made even more disturbing by the fact that you're doing this to cute and cuddly critters, but sometimes disturbing gameplay makes for a good time. This is one of those cases.

Tip for anyone playing the game:

Buy Chilli Seeds, buy 4-5, plant them in the same area, sprinkle them each with red fertilizer 3 times, they will grow way larger than usual. Once they fall off of the plant, you can sell each one for 400. With the seeds and fertlizer together being under 50, its a pretty easy profit.

so wait is this game like animal crossing where it goes on forever, or is it actually beatable and it ends at some point like harvest moon?

According to IGN it can go on forever.

Harvest Moon also goes on forever in most versions ;)

I think I'm definitely going to get this tommorrow.
