Viva Piñata - General Discussion & Piñata Trading - Demo Out Now

I got this game yesterday at Target(with the $10 giftcard of course) and I just can't stop playing it. I was wondering though, to enter a codeword, is that what you name your garden? And do you really create a garden with it, or does it just give you the items? I know "bullseye" is a codeword, and I have read "chewincorn" is also a codeword.
Anyways, so far I have had like 75ish Whirlms, only about 10 left though. I have gotten 3 fudgehogs, one was eaten or something so I have two, and I am wondering how I can romance them? I know you need to give them milk, but how do I get milk? I am level 11 right now, if that helps. Also, at what level can you buy a Ponocky? I really want a Horstachio, so then I can get a Zumbug. Also has anyone gotten a Dragonache yet? Those look awesome.

Yeah I'm totally hooked on mine. So far the whirlms are my favorite romance dance the rest of them have been cute to though the buzzlegum one is a little odd. I still can't quite make the buzzlegums start making honey at the honey faciltiy I setup for them. Going to try putting down some different flowers and see which ones they go to see if that helps any.

Thinking about picking this up. I checked youtube for some gameplay footage and I'm wondering something. In the videos, there seems to be some hiccups in gameplay when performing some kind of action. Does the game sometimes pause? Thanks.

The game autosaves a lot and this causes a little bit of slowdown. That's probably what you were seeing. It would be nicer if it was a little smoother, but it's not too distracting to me.

thanks for the recomendations...I will probably ask for this for xmass. Between the 2 games I already have to finish on my 360, and gears, I think I can wait. While your reviews are tempting me to break down and get it like I did with the hd dvd add on, I think I can hold off.

Yes, you 'name' the garden bullseye, but it doesn't actually create a garden. Just pops up with 'Code accepted' and how to access the stuff. I put that code in first and it still made me make a new garden. Hehe.

What does bullseye do? I know chewnicorn starts you off with 5 accessories, but I haven't heard of bullseye.

Correct, and if you already have a garden started, you can use the codes the same way and it will also apply those codes to any gardens you already have.

Wait...what? How do you enter the code if you already have a garden started?

Has this crashed on anyone yet? My wife spazzed when she had this happen to her the other day.

It's funny how many of us speak in terms of our wives playing; I'm not ashamed to admit I'd totally play VP, if I could only wrest the goddamned controller from her!
Wait...what? How do you enter the code if you already have a garden started?
Just start a new garden and name it the "code". That's how you enter the codes; it doesn't actually create a garden if you use a "code" for the name - it just pops up and tells you that you entered a code and that it will be applied to any existing gardens and all future gardens.

I have no idea about "bullseye" as I had not heard of that one yet, but I'm guessing it is for something that you buy in the shops as well.

Awesome. I'll have to try that out tonight. Thanks shipwreck!
what do the codes get you? are they like "cheats"? like get a ___ pinata. do they effect acheivements?
From everything I've read, they don't affect achievements, it just unlocks certain accessories sooner than later on the in game shops.

bullseye says on the little target paper that it gives you '5 unlocked accessory items available in your pet shop'. What those are, I'm not sure yet, as I haven't gotten that far yet.

How the hell do you get rid of sours? I've got a sour snail who I've attempted pounding with a shovel and told a whirlm to go check it out, but nothing's making this thing go away.

Right, I know "chewnicorn" gives you 5 accessories in the pet shop which opens up when you get to Level 8. It doesn't affect achievements and to be honest, I have no idea what accessories it unlocks. I put the code in, but I've yet to actually accessorize any of my pinatas.

You either kill them or press the "Y" button to see how you can make them your resident. Snails have to eat apple seeds I believe.

Also has anyone messed around with transformations and variants?

For instance, if you have a Newtgat and feed it a chilli it evolves into a Salamango. If you have a Taffly, direct it towards fire post, let it catch on fire and put it out with your water can, then it evolves into a Redhott.

Variants are, if you feed a fox a bluebell flower, it turns blue, also works on the bat and badger plus others.

Anyone know of more?

well if you wanna know
Two ways I've heard of to do this one I know works. Go to the shop and buy some appleseeds put it on some dry soil before you've beaten it. As the snail comes toward it he will eat it and turn from a sour to a sweet then you can block off that type of sour from your garden. Other way I was told was to have a whirlm nestle up next to him and it will tame him as well.

Damn, I don't want to buy this yet, but I'd really like the "Launch Edition". I'm so close to pulling the trigger @amazon. Too many fricken games/systems coming out this month...

I never thought this was going to be a kiddy game, so to speak, but I'm actually suprised with how difficult it is to keep a balance with everything. I was attempting to find a way to break up a fight between a raisant and a whirlm, and while I wasn't looking, a visiting pretztail ate my second and only remaining bunnycomb. Gahhhh. And then, two other animals decided to fight. Sounds like I need to build some fences-- Do I need to completely fence animals in when I do this, or is it just more of a 'theres a line around 90% of the area they shouldnt cross' thing?

Feed a whirlm a radish and it turns purple. I learned that on my own, but there are many here: http://www.pinataisland.info/index.php?title=Main_Page . All the variants and whatnot are on the species pages. I'll have to try the Newtgat thing, they come to my garden easily. Also, thanks for the tip with growing the chillis, I am able to get anything I want now :D

You need to completely fence them in or they are smart enough to find the opening every time.

Quick fence tip: Always put two gates right next to each other so that you can have an opening twice as wide. This causes the workers to get stuck much less and allows for you to move more of the bigger animals through gated areas.

From my experience, if you want to keep bunnycombs, you are going to have to fence in either the bunnycombs or the pretztails because the pretztails will actively go after the bunnycombs. The same is true for the newtgats and the badgers.

A quick variant: feed a chili pepper to a Fudgehog.

I haven't even touched fences and I'm up to the maximum size garden. What I do is I spread out the animals that I notice that fight a lot or get rid of a complete breed. If youre garden is too tight, it will cause problems. Try removing/selling trees if they're in the way, or selling houses and rebuilding them at a further location. I was almost ready to give up on this game due to constant fighting but found out that this really helped keep my garden as peacefull as possible.

Thanks for the Whirlm/raddish info. I do check out vivapinatainfo.com from time to time but that site is kinda hard to navigate. Also not sure if this was mentioned, if you put a beekepers hat on a bee, and buy a hive from the shops, the bee's will produce honey which you can sell and/or feed to others.

Maybe I'm not far enough but when does my garden get bigger? I'm up to level 11 I think do I have to purchase more land of will it happen while playing?

I don't recall what level you have to be on for this to happen, but its just automatic. It will be announced and all of a sudden you're land will expand. I'm already at the maximum and I'm kinda disappointed that, that's it. I was hoping it would get much bigger.

Well, for whenever I do opt for fences (Which may be soon, because I have a lot of visiting pretztails attempting to eat my newly ready to breed bunnycombs), anyone have any tips on how to get the animals into the enclosure? I have 2 bunnycombs I'd like to fence in but they keep running out of the fence while I'm trying to build it. I've tried building it most of the way and then getting them to go in while I put the last bit up, but they run out too quickly. :/

edit: Well, finally got the bunnycombs in after about 10 tries, at least.

If you're bunnycombs don't have anything special about them, you can sell them, then build the enclosure, then have the hunter get you one.

Also, does anyone know where to get medicine for the Sour Crowla, that thing is terribly annoying.
...does anyone know where to get medicine for the Sour Crowla, that thing is terribly annoying.
You have to have Honey, purchase it or have bees make it for you, than call that jack-o-lantern scarecrow guy and have him do his mumbo jumbo on the honey and it will turn into a purple bottle which is medicine.

Thanks, now I have a crowla! Now I have to go get some flutterscotches for the Profitamole. And in case you didn't know, if you feed a gooseberry to a Quackberry you get a Juicygoose, which I had to sell for more room, I just wish that the Buzzenge would come. Also does anyone know how to get a Snapdragon flower for a Twingersnap?

Does anyone else have a problem where random items or animals will turn invisible? Once they do, they stay that way and its a major pain. I can't even get to them via the journal. I usually have to luck into seeing some zzzzs in the air when they fall asleep and end up selling them so a visible pinata will appear later. Its happening enough that I'm getting pretty fed up.

I've heard of others mention it in Viva Pinata forums, seems like its only affected and unlucky few. I haven't had any problems at all, no freezing, no invicibility or anything like that.

Anyone have any pinatas that they want to trade/give away. I have extra bats, snails, squirrels, and redhotts, could possibly get a monkey and a badger soon.

it's one of the next few games I'm getting from gamefly. my friend Luke who works for 1up says its great.

I'm noticing a slowdown with new animals for myself, the only new thing I've seen in the last day is a mothdrop that decided to finally move in. I keep having visiting badgers and a doenut pops by once a day but never comes in.

If anyone wants any rabbits, squirrels, flies, or bees, I have a few extra of those.

Ah, pumpkins, eh? They came in and kept eating my newtgats, so I eventually just let them eat them and be done. Hehe.

I'm waiting for the next space upgrade because it seems awfully full as is, but I have no idea when it'll come.

You can get info on anything that comes into your garden and it will tell you what is necessary for that pinata to stay. If you get info on the badgers it will say 1 newtgat and 2 pumpkins.

Gah, I caved and ordered this from Amazon. My wallet regrets it, but hopefully I won't. :) I did enjoy Animal Crossing, but not so much the Sims...

Strange, mine never said that, it says '1 newtgat' and then a box with a lot of ?s. If the other ones changed after eating the newtgats, I must've missed it, or they mustve been near the border and left after that.
alrighty then, hopefully their next game will be something serious
Once they meet the known requirement ( it will have a green checkmark) the next requirement will be shown instead of the ?'s

This has probably been said 20 times already but the LE box (I couldn't find a non-LE box, is there one?) is the gayest thing ever and one of the worse boxes ever. I hate it to death. I haven't opened my copy yet and I'm hoping somewhere there is a normal version.

If you really want the regular edition, check your store sometime after December. 12/2 is when the last shipment of "Special" boxes go out. Or you can always try to create your own cover. I'll be trying this out within the next couple days, hopefully it works out, otherwise I'm thinking of exchanging the game to TRU after X-Mas and say it was defective and hopefully get a regular edition.

I think I'll just wait until 12/2 and exchange it then. Hell that's only 2 more weeks and I got plenty of games to keep me occupied until then.
