Viva Piñata - General Discussion & Piñata Trading - Demo Out Now

I'm gonna have to say that this is my favorite game out right now. I popped it in around 630pm thinking I'd just romance to get a couple Bunnycombs to sell off and four hours later, I'm landscaping.

The last two hours I wasn't even worrying about getting more Pinatas. I just got the bigger land upgrade (I think I was around level 11 for that curious CAG) and so I tried to set up my new plot. I gotta find a better way to fence off my entire area for the Bunnycombs though. I'm afraid the Pretztails (I think that's what they're called) will keep eating them as they did the first two.

Anyone have any landscaping tips? Placement of houses, where to plant, fences, etc.?

I like having everything gridded out so even the edge of the ponds have to be straight. I found setting up a fence as a guide and then digging gives me that straight edge I'm looking for.

I'll probably concentrate on breeding Bunnycombs for money for a bit and then expand out and try to get that Doenut and figure out how to romance the Pretztails I have.

Love this game.

How the hell do you get pinatas to come out of their houses?
How do you get apple trees to produce fruit?

Also, I found this green mystery seed seed that the info on it says it needs a place with the least moisture, I can't seem to plant it anywhere.

Oh and here is your tip of the day: buy a torch, send a taffly to it, it will light on fire, hurry and put it out with your watering tool, and it turns into a RedHot.

Get the shovel and tap the house with the "X" button. They will come out, but they won't be too happy, I've noticed that they come out looking sad, like you woke them from a nap.

The seed you speak of is a watercress seed. You need to plant it near water, it has to be near the edge of the dirt.

Really? Hm, I've tried bashing with my shovel to get them to come out so I can breed them, but it doesn't seem to work. I'll try again.

Just had a session. Made lots of redhots. I also found that if you have your taffly eat a gooseberry it makes fertilizer and gives you an achievement. I can't figure out what good the fertilizer is though.

I'm trying to unsour the crow pinata, and it requires a bottle of medicine. Anyone know where to acquire it?
can you beat your pinatas? and does this game have a real night and day cycle?
Yes you can kill them even, and often have to.

Yes to night and day cycle. Some pinatas are nocturnal.

I've only once had to personally 'beat' and kill a pinata, a sour that I was having issues with. So I dunno about 'often'...

The day to night cycle is NOT real time, which is what I believe he was asking by 'real' day and night cycle. Not like animal crossing.

Medicine is made by honey being transformed by Bart.

I know I've heard of pinatas dissapearing/going invisible, but has anyone had a problem with pinatas getting stuck? I have a pretztail (my best one, who's been given away at the event things several times, so I really don't want to lose him!) who is stuck right outside the boundaries somehow, and nothing seems to lure him in. When that happened, I started having major issues with my pinatas near that area getting 'stuck' in the same path, and its making it really hard to breed some of them. I've got two mice sitting there walking in a circle and ignoring my constant command to make babies.

I attempted buying a mailbox to see if it would let me select it that way but no go, and now I have a darn mailbox sitting in my garden with nothing I want to get rid of. One of you might be getting a suprise soon if I can't figure out how to get rid of that any other way.

I like this "tip" screen from the game

Get Bart to gold tinker some honey.

I've played this game and its pretty fun. My girlfriend is addicted. She has taken over the 360 and is playing as I type.

This might sound stupid but I want to pick this game up badly, but cannot express how much I hate the case it comes in. It look's like there would be a chocolate bunny inside of it or somthing.

I want to buy this game so bad but I keep having a feeling that it'll show up on the retail site soon.. I even have a promo pinata to hold me over :(

but crap, I really, really want this.. is this similar (sorta) to Animal Crossing?
I may rush out and buy it now, gah.. must show restraint!

Ninety Nine Nights never showed up... don't expect Viva Pinata soon if ever.

99N wasn't truly made by MS, was it? I thought they just brought it over and Q3 did it.

Regardless, this one's made by Rare and published by MS, just like Perfect Dark.. there's a good chance it'll show up

It's more of a Pokemon type of game in the Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing confinements. By that, I mean, you're given a set of land and that's all you have to work with. You don't get the whole interaction with neighbors and NPCs (aside from buying stuff) and you don't get to personalize a house or anything.

You have what's basically a farm and you try to manage your Pinatas in order to make money and attract more Pinata. It's great. Really great.

Of course, anyone can challenge me on my description, but regardless of how you want to classify it, this game's great.

Listent to SteveMcQ, he know's what he's talking about.
Ok I have buzzlegums and a beehive, how in the hell do I make honey?
I believe you have to put a beekeeper hat on the buzzlegums-- not certain about that, but I believe that was what I read before.

Yup youre right. They produce honey which you can sell for 100 or you can transform it into medicine buy having the pumpkin scarecrow (i dont know his name) transform it.

Jeez I spent an hour last night trying to figure out how to make my bees produce honey so I could make medicine for the the crow. Accessories never occurred to me. I haven't gotten into accessories at all yet.

So people who have had it for awhile, is it still fun, or is it one of those games that's fun for a week and then you kind of forget about it?
So people who have had it for awhile, is it still fun, or is it one of those games that's fun for a week and then you kind of forget about it?
I've already been playing it nightly for at least 3 hours since Sunday. It's far surpassed the time I've put into GOW.

I wouldn't say it's more fun than GOW, but definitely has more lasting appeal.
So people who have had it for awhile, is it still fun, or is it one of those games that's fun for a week and then you kind of forget about it?
It definately has a lot of replay value, its got tons of different species that you will not be able to collect all at once due to certain incompatabilities between certain species. I will definately be creating new gardens when I'm done with this one, to try to get a different variety of residents on my garden. I just passed the 10hour mark, may not seem like a lot but I can honestly say that I've played this more than GoW, and just like Thrustbucket said, its not that its better, to me it just makes time fly by.

For me, it's kind of a mix of both. I think it's just come out at a bad time, I've had a very busy week (And I never have those), and with the wii coming out, I have a feeling this game might get overlooked more than it should for myself.

That being said, I can see it being one of those things I always pick up when I'm bored and nothing else sounds fun, sort of like I do with the sims 2. Something you can play for 10 minutes and feel productive during.

Picked the game up on Thursday because you guys made me too anxious to try it out.

Last night I got the 10 hour achievement...definitely the most addicted I have been to the 360. Like others have mentioned, I have COD3 and GoW...both have not been touched since putting in Viva Pinata on Thursday night. Just managed to breed Horstacios--awesome!

This game just oozes style, a great departure from shooting people in the face...haha!

For those of you on the fence--go for it, my friends were skeptical but once they tried it, they were hooked as well.

I had a large choice of games to get at Rhino today after the trade-in deal, but I figured Viva Pinata was the most different of all of them and was probably the one game I'd never quite spend a large amount of money.

I probably won't play it today but I'm real excited to finally get it.

Okay CAGs, mrs. shipwreck needs some people to send and receive pinatas from. If you're up to the challenge, give "Kitty Fixer" a friend invite.
Is she looking for a specific species or just "surprises"

And "Kitty Fixer" is she a vet?
Yes, she is a vet, and she's not looking for anything specific, she just likes surprises.

If I could get on live I'd send her the sherbat I tamed he's kind of a cute little guy ^_^ anyone else managed to tame one of the sour bats yet?(figures everyone has)

Anyone know how to deal with Professor Pester? He smashed opened one of my monkeys. I live in constant fear for my Horstachio's. I don't want to lose them since I'm getting closer to a Chewnicorn.

I just pay him off everytime, but there's supposedly something that eventually opens up in Ivor's shop that will keep him away from your garden.
anyone else managed to tame one of the sour bats yet?(figures everyone has)
yup...then he flew away. I always keep a pumpkin around in case another one creeps around but my damn harvester keeps grabbing it when I'm not looking.

How do I protect my Pinata from that shaman-mask wearing guy? He always seem to attack me from off-screen when I'm on the opposite end of the garden. All of a sudden I'll have a message that one of my Pinata is sick. And then I see him just off the side of my garden.

And which of Pinatas have you found to be the least troublesome for romancing outside of the Whirlms. I'm trying to get the Master Romancer badge first or at least be proficient with three species before I move forward.

I recommend Sparrowmints, Flutterscotches, and Taffly's. Don't forget to use the candy after the intial mating. It speeds things up significantly.

After the animation of them "dancing"?

In general what does the Candy exactly do? Haven't experimented with feeding them candy. I know that the red one is bad but anything special about buying/feeding them candy?

Umm... well romance candy saves you from having to go through all the steps that you had to the first time you romanced a species of pinata. Just feed it to two pinatas and they'll instantly want to get it on. I can't imagine trying to get master romancer on a lot of the pinatas without using romance candy.

And you just feed it to them when they are just walking around minding their own business.

Let me also add that I don't think this works with the children created. I think the romance candy only works with the exact same two pinata that have previously fulfilled the romance requirements.

Also, as for Ivors shop, do you have to pay all those coins at once? Because I've been giving him various amounts when I see him, hoping it adds up to what he wants.

Doesn't have to be all at once, I was giving him 100-200 coins per visit, when I found out the actual amount needed, I gave him what I thought was needed to complete the total, and it worked.

It should work the same. I was breeding Sparrowmints earlier and I was using some that weren't remotely close to my original two (I think was on Sparrowmint 32 maybe?) and the candy still worked. Sometimes, I've had some that were just adult-ized that wouldn't intially take the candy.

Nope, it works with any of that species of pinata. They're a free-loving bunch.

Oh, and if you are trying to get Master Romancer for a species, don't sell off any of that species. You need to keep them until during the mating mini-game you are starting off with only 1 life. Once you complete that mini-game, wait for the egg to hatch and that's when the Master Romancer award pops up. Then you can sell your pinata off to the slaughter-house and start work on the next species.
