I would like to get a 360 bc of how awesome i hear XBL is and i love FPS, but on my TV ive only got 2 component connections (and they are already in use w/ Wii and DVD) so i wouldnt be able to connect all 3 things at the same time w/o by a multi component adapter/splitter which i think is about $70. However, I do hear that sometime soon a new version of the 360 is coming out w/ HDMI and luckily i have 1 hdmi port open.

Long story short, should I get the adapter/splitter and get the 360 thats out now...or should i just wait and get the newer version thats coming out.

Oh and if anybody has any idea what the timeframe is for the new 360 version release i would appreciate it.

also, can i lay the 360 on its side w/o having to worry about it overheating or something bad happening to it? W/ the setup that Ive got I dont really have room to stand it upright. I know w/ the hi defect rate of 360s I dont want to do anything that can increase it.

use the 360 as a dvd player.

AFAIK there should be no problem laying your 360 on its side as long as there is plenty of ventilation.

Personally, I don't think it's worth $400 for the system (I nabbed mine for about $250 from Meijer a few weeks ago). I would really recommend holding off for a price drop, but if you're itching to get it, have the money, and the only thing that's holding you back is a component switcher, just get one and get your game on. :)

fuck you Daroga! ;) Seriously, I doubt there will be a price drop anytime soon. 360s are still selling and has no competition from the other guys(Nintendo can't make enough and Sony can't sell enough). The 360 is worth the price if you are willing to spend some money on it. Use the 360 as the DVD player. It is a good one. THe XBLM is awesome and there are more than two handfuls of great gaming to be had. Also you can get some of the old Xbox games and play them on it too. Now is the time to buy.

Cheapy needs to make a new forum for these questions. After all they have one for reviews, why not one for everyone who needs decisions made for them.......................

Seriously. We've had this same thread show up in this forum at least 3 times in the past month alone.

The problem is my dvd player is my receiver for my surround sound so if I use the 360 for the dvd player then I lose the surround sound.

I agree that there should be a place for questions like this. I wish there was a better place for the question I had about which games to get first. Maybe CheapyD will make one.

not that i prefer this strategy, but the 360 has surround out, and i'm pretty sure it outputs surround for dvd's. some dvd/receivers have digital in.

so you would'nt be out anything. unless you dont have digital in.

but i would just change the wii to svideo or composite.

well, are there a bunch of games out right now that you have to play? if not just wait and you can either get the rumored updated model later this year or get the older model for cheap, assuming there is a price drop or you can find a deal.

i got a 360 premium for 150 bucks. but i only have 3 games for it and dont play it much. but on the horizon i have assasins creed and blue dragon to look forward to.

on my tv you would be amazed at the difference the component cable have over composite. Its definitely like night and day.

I also hate to lose my 5 disc dvd player and surround sound (the receiver doesnt have an optical out I dont believe, its a home-theater-in-a-box thingy).

Id really like to get one now but I think that I would be better served by just waiting for the upgraded HDMI version. However, I did read somewhere on the boards that for 1 yr (or maybe it was 90 days) BB will allow you to retrade in your old system for credit towards a newer system. Is that true or completely off the wall?

If so, I could purchase a 360 now and then trade it in when the newer bigger HD, HDMI version comes out. Anybody got any idea on the validity of this?

Yea, there seem to be a ton of good games that are popular on XBL right now that I really wanna try: Gears of War, Crackdown, GRAW2, Rainbow 6 Vegas, Oblivion, and I've never played Halo 2 (i know, i know, im pathetic....thats what i get for being loyal to sony and nintendo). So needless to say theres plenty of microsoft only stuff i want to play, plus the main reason i want a 360 is the multiplayer capability. All i hear is raving reviews of how perfect XBL is.....needless to say, the Wii has a long way to go until it is even able to play online, muchless be as solid as XBL.
anybody know if the rumor about trading up for systems w/in a certain time period at BB is true? If so you'll see me on XBL tomorrow.
2 year warranty you say my system is broken they give you credit for what you paid:D

its really that simple? do they even check it at all? not very honest, but hell i figure BB owes me as many times as ive been in there and received poor service and been price gouged bc they are the only electronics store in a 50 mile radius that actually has half the shit i need

know how much the warranty is by any chance?

its a service plan. it costs money. 39.99 i believe.

and your receipt for the product(with service plan) is your proof of the 2 year service plan
Get an HDMI upscaling DVD player. I got one for $50. Then you have enough ports.
The dvd player that Im using now is a 5 disc changer (im lazy :)) and runs the whole surround sound setup that ive got. Also, w/ my setup ive only got enough room to fit a 360 just by the slimmest of margins in my entertainment center. My wife and i kinda have this agreement that if im gonna waste all my money on video games and systems it at least has to look decent and presentable sitting in the living room. What can I say, welcome to married life :)
I have a question: Is it worth getting a 360 if you don't have an HDTV? I can connect via component however.
i got the same question...mine's not even progressive scan.

the other alternative is to hook up to my 17" computer monitor which is widescreen. i would need the vga hookup. how would the 360 experience be on such a small screen?
I have a question: Is it worth getting a 360 if you don't have an HDTV? If there's games you want to play, rather than pretty pictures you want to look at, go for it. Component will help as much as possible.

Yeah, I figure the awesome online play, and the achievements warrant the purchase price. I'll probably wait for a price drop, or something though.

The VGA cable with the monitor makes a huge difference that you can even notice. I play my X360 on my 19" widescreen monitor now because I don't have an HDTV yet, and it's pretty nice.

I'm waiting for the new system to come out, hopefully this fall.

I figure, eventually I'll have an HDTV.
