IGN review of the European release.

Since it comes out here next week and since its not at all likely that there will be a diffrence between the EU version and the US version I guess this is what we have to look forward too. That said, I was kinda iffy on Wario Ware. I played all the other ones and loved them but never bought them due to how short they were. After reading this review I am certain this is a rental only for me. I had hoped that the overall length of the game would be longer and that the multi player would be more robust. I guess I sound a lot like the reviewer at IGN now but I am sure its still a good game just not one I would want to own. A seven day rental should do me just fine for this game.
Post any other review and your thoughts.

I will have to investigate how this compares to WarioWare, Inc and Touched. Inc seems like it has a lot more going for it once you finish it. Touched gave me no incentive to play again - which is okay cause somehow it got valuable on eBay.

Rental's probably not a bad idea, otherwise I'll just be reselling it if it's lacking lasting appeal.

I was exciting when I first heard about this game, but looking at it now, it definately doesn't feel like a $50 purchase. Maybe if I had 3 friends to play with it would be nice, but even then it sounds like the multiplayer is not great.

Warioware works best as a handheld game for a reason, they are mindless minigames. Sitting with a DS or GBA in your hands for 20 min and enjoying this game is much different than getting in front of your TV for an hour or two.

As much as I want this, I'll probably wait for it to drop. I'm much more interested in snagging DS Adventure games this month then buying another collection of mini games for the Wii.

I should say my son and daughter both have one of the Wario Ware games right now for their DS and GBA (Touched and WW inc) they started playing them last night. They are really loving them so I guess if they were to just fall in love with the Wii version I would go ahead and buy it for them to play. With certain games, like with their cartoons, they can play the same exact thing a million times over and that mindset would make the purchase worth it for me.

I want to get this game but I don't think it is worth full price, I am waiting for a price drop to $30 (I own touched and I feel $30 was a fair price but I am not paying $50 for a warioware game).

I usually find Eurogamer reviews to mimic my feelings most accurately (even though I'm in California ;):
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=71572

Sounds like it's worth buying, but I don't think it'll have the same appeal at my house as the gamecube version did. Regardless, I'm still really looking forward to it.

I'll be picking it up at Best Buy with the $10 off coupon and a gift card I've had sitting in my wallet for months, making it virtually free.

Definatley seems like a multiplayer game. I'm reluctant, because Rayman is the same and I don't have anybody to play that with.

Yeah, that review was a bit disappointing. WarioWare Twisted has a boatload of unlockables and I figured they would add MORE for the flagship $50 Wii release. Looks like they cut most of that out though - not cool. The unlockables are what keep you coming back to play more.

I'll probably get this at release if GR gets it in - but that means waiting 1-3 weeks to see if they ever get it (and not knowing for sure if they ever will or not - I got Zelda 3 weeks after release despite my preorder). I was going to pick it up at EB and just return it there if GR got it in, but this review probably means that I won't do that - I'll just let GR determine whether or not I get this now. Kind of sucks though, because this was the only game coming out in Jan that I wanted. Now Wii Play is pushed off till Feb and Mario Party isn't until March. Oh well, still have Zelda to finish and more things to unlock in Elebits. Now would be a good time for a AAA N64 VC title, Nintendo...
I'm a fan of the series, but there's no way to justify spending 50 dollars on this game.
I disagree. I think a lot of people can justify spending $50 on this game.
I'll wait for a price drop since there's an apparent lack of unlockables.
Meh. Unlockables are only exciting for 2 seconds...if the core game is fun, that's all I care about.

I'm also going to wait for a price drop.
Even if the game turns out to be a dud. It's still going to be sought after when it's production run is over. Look how tough the other Warioware games are to find. This is going into my collection.

I have it shipped to my house on or about the 16th. My fiancee thought the hula-hoop mini-game looked fun (even though I said it would be for 2-4 seconds) but she seemed intrigued. Anything to get her to understand video games - it will make my hobby in our upcoming marriage easier to understand!

Personally, I'm very excited about the Starfox mini-game with Rob as the first level boss! Looks awesome controlling the Arwing with the Wii remote.
I disagree. I think a lot of people can justify spending $50 on this game.
Hear hear... to me the WW games have much more replayability value than most titles... esp if this title has a lot of unlockables like Touched! did. To me, this is the Wii title most worthy of my $50 to date...

A lot of people I've talked to (friends, GS employees) have told me this is the Wii title they've been most excited about, as well...

I know it's not for everyone... but it distresses me to see this title getting slammed before it's even out :/

probably will pick it up to play with my wife
Same here.
I may have read this wrong but I :rofl:ed

With the motion sensitivity of the wiimote, there is no excuse for not having kancho in this game. If kancho belonged in any game, it's Wario Ware.

Just got done reviewing this for Yahoo. Played through single-player,and checked out all the multiplayer stuff. Really like it, though I didn't score it as high as previous Wario Ware games. I'm bummed that it doesn't have the scoring goals for individual micro-games, and it doesn't seem to have as much "stuff" -- especially considering how much more room they had. I also wish they would've had Ashley's theme song from the DS game. Still, a great time, tons of stances, the 9-volt Nintendo related stuff is awesome (I won't spoil the boss battle), and multiplayer's good, too.
I'm bummed that it doesn't have the scoring goals for individual micro-games
What?!?

No way.

Like, you can't play each game seperately to get the little flower or whatever? If they took that out, I guess I'm waiting for a price drop, since I got so much replayability off that.

Instead of endlessly repeating a micro-game, you just do the three or so variations. Then you can amp up the speed on a meter, but I didn't notice a way to play indefinitely. That was like 2/3 of the time I spent on past Wario Ware games.

EDIT: Went back and looked again, just to triple-check. Only flower you get is when you unlock all the minigames on a stage, or for a specific form (stance).
Wow, a 9.1... I actually didn't expect that, I was thinking more around the 7.x range.
Yeah now I am thinking of buying this game for $50 since Gerstmann rated it higer than Zelda (no I don't take GS seriously but, that 9.1 coming from the same guy who gave Zelda a 8.8 is a good sign that this game is good), now I am kinda torn if I should get it in a few weeks when I have $50 to spend on a game or wait for a price drop (with sonic, mario party and vc games coming out in the next two months...).

hmm i want this but how big would a price drop be because im thinkin about using the bb $10 off coupon on this thing...wanna get it soon or its gonna end up going out of production and hard to find like touched

Well, being a disc-based game it is unlikely to end up like Touched (of which I just found a used copy at GC - woohoo!). However, that isn't necessarily the case either (see Mario Power Tennis for example). What you can be *fairly* sure of, though, is that being a flagship Nintendo first-party game it isn't likely to have an official drop in price any time soon (I'd say at least a year before it becomes a Wii Player's Choice title, perhaps - and maybe even 2 years).

Despite me being a CAG and hating to pay retail (even if it is in trade-in credit that only cost me 50% of the value to obtain) I actually don't mind Nintendo's habits in this regard because it means I can drop $50 on the game at release and even if I don't play it for a while (and this one I will play day one) I know I'm not going to see it in the clearance bin in 6 months. This is not the case with many many PS2 games - several of which I regret having bought at release.

Now it is true that Nintendo started to slip a bit with the Fire Emblem/Batallion Wars/Chibi-Robo $15 and under prices last year. But those weren't really high-selling AAA first-party titles (despite the fact that they were all excellent games). I don't expect to see $15 prices for WarioWare Smooth Moves EVER (eventually it will be $20). Of course, I never expected to find WarioWare Twisted so cheap so soon after release either. So who the hell knows.

I checked at my GR tonight and they do, actually, have the game on order (unlike Rayman and Elebits which they never got). So at least they are TRYING to get it, which is nice being that I preordered it and all . Even if all goes well, though, they won't have it until next Friday.

That Gamespot review was interesting. He notes as one of the positives the unlockables. Yet the IGN preview made it sound like that was lacking.

Well, anyway, there are WAY more reviews up than that one. Metacritic has it at an 83 average, with 13 reviews. That makes it second to only Zelda.

Here's the IGN review, which gave it an 8.2 (and also appears to have been posted today - Jan 12th):
http://wii.ign.com/articles/755/755377p1.html

The rest of the reviews are from minor sites or are for the Japanese or European versions (or not even online). But with an 8.2 from IGN and a 9.1 from Gamespot this is looking better than I expected. I definitely hope my GR preorder comes in ;).

I like this gem from the IGN review:
In fact, many of the game's boss fights are where we had the most fun, as they offer a ton of variety and make great use of the Wii's controller. There's even a motion controlled sword fight that - while still a bit rough - gets the feeling of melee combat down using basic 1:1 Wii-mote tracking (Red Steel 2 please?).

Ah, so it IS possible! LucasArts light-saber game here we come!
I also wish they would've had Ashley's theme song from the DS game. .
It's funny, but I just scored a used copy of Touched from GC. I had never played it before and I popped it in to test before I end up giving it to my son for his birthday. Since it was used, it looks like a bunch of things were unlocked, but there was one "new" character that hadn't been played yet so I gave it a shot. It turned out to be Ashley and I thought that song was absolutely fantastic - one of the coolest things I've ever seen/heard on the DS! Wierd that I just saw that for the first time about 30 minutes before reading your post . (Afterwards I deleted the game data so it will be all new for my son!).

io, did GR have this on order without a preorder, or had you already preordered it? I'll have to check with mine. That would be a good chance to halve the remaining credit I've got there.

That GS score is very suprising to me too. I am reading through it right now. Makes me happy to see all these positive comments.

I'll be buying this with the ten dollar BB coupon, no doubt- I've always loved these games.

However, if you can no longer get flowers on each individual minigame by doing it x amount of times in a row, I will be *very* disappointed. That added much replayability to all three of the WW games.

As did the unlockables. Touched was so cool for the unlockables, and the number of them in Twisted was amazing. If they canned both of these features, I'd have to wonder what the hell they were thinking.

I trust GameSpot with all my reviews (been going there since '97? '98?) and Jeff is an excellent reviewer, although I'll be honest and say I didn't agree with some points he made on the Twilight Princess review.

Nevertheless, I have no doubt now that WarioWare is worth MSRP, but I'm going to use the BB $10.00 off coupon anyway... as I am a CAG after all.

Unfortunately, they don't let you combine coupons, so the GGC is a no go.

I would suggest getting at Best Buy as early as possible, as I think WarioWare will sell-out very easily on its own, and the chances of that happening with a $10.00 off coupon increases the chances of that happening.

Sorry, have no idea. I didn't ask how many they had on order, and I got my preorder in very early (beginning of Dec I think). Chances are most normal GR's will get at least 1 copy in in addition to any preorders. It is just my store that feels the need to order 1 copy of only about 1/2 the games (and crappy ones to boot). And then they only get 1/2 of THOSE delivered by corporate. You'd think with my DS and Wii purchases alone they'd think it was a well-performing store and get more stock out there .

I thought the coupon was until 2/28, unless I read the coupon wrong. Either way can't wait to try it because one of my friends should be getting it this week.

My thoughts exactly, I was already planning on getting Warioware for MSRP, so getting it for cheaper than MSRP is just icing on the cake. :D

Yeah I don't see this game getting a price drop any time soon. The Wii is not a gamecube, so nintendo will not be droping the price of games to sell more consoles. I think the days of 20 buck Players choice games is over. I have a feeling that Nintendo will be like MS and have it's "Greatest Hits" games cost 30 bucks and not 20.

Also I love my Wii so much, I'm willing to pay extra for games at launch. Playing them feels so new that I can't wait to get one. Plus there is that coupon that takes 10 bucks off the price over at BB to make me want to buy it.
Amazing, I thought GS were supposed to be these great Wii haters in everyones eyes
That's what their forums would have you believe. I bet they're shitting a brick over the fact that this got a better score than their beloved Zelda.

I never liked forums before, but then they started to grow on me. The first forum I started to use was the GameSpot one. (Sheep! Cow! Lemming!)

Thank god I discovered CAG... it's the only forum I frequent.

This is literally the best forum on the internet. Sure, the occasional asshole stumbles in, but for the most part people are actually considerate of each other and we have very few trolls.
