You are almost 100% guaranteed to have scratched discs in your set. Here's why:

The flat depression where the underside of the disc rests against has a small circle of rough plastic sticking out of it. So when the discs were slapped on and turned through shipping, deep scratches resulted.

Many people are reporting damaged discs due to the poorly designed packaging. You can read some of them complaints here:

http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/showthread.php?t=127552&page=1&pp=25

If you want to try your luck and buy a set, make sure you have the receipt so you can return the discs in case they are damaged.

Looks like the Power of Greyskull doesn't extend to package design.
When Man-at-Arms was in charge, this shit wouldn't happen.

For all those looking to buy it...FYE has it on sale for $27.99 (retail price is $50 I believe)

Is that the cheapest price around?

Nope. $24.99 at Best Buy and some WalMarts is the cheapest.

This sucks. I wanted this set, and if it's recalled, I'll have to pay much more than $25 when the good copies are released.

I got the set today, there are some small scratches on the edges of a few of the discs, although I dunno if they're really serious.

Don't settle for scrached shit.

First Thundercats and now this. Good thing I haven't bought it yet. I might get it for X-mas though so there should be some good copies by then.

The BCI guy has offered to send out new discs if you send in your scratched discs, but they have to actually *skip* not just be scratched. I certainly don't have the time to watch 12 hours of He-Man right now to determine which actually skip, and I really don't see why I should be stuck with unskipping scratched discs anyway.

My roommate and I both bought sets today, and both are in perfect condition. So there's a couple of experiences that may help you take the risk while it's still cheap.

His close friends-- of which I am one -- refer to him as Duncan. They should market the discs as "Chewed by Skeletor Collector's Edition!" Watch as Skeletor's evil powers make your disc skip and flutter all over the place! You.....have....the power!!!!!!!

Hi:

I picked up my discs at Best buy yesterday and all 6 discs have no scratches on them at all. Maybe this isn't as bad as we think?

Kevin

Good info to know. I'll still try my luck later this week, if they are still available.

BTW:What was wrong with the THundercats set?

Yeah, that's where the two flawless sets that are in my house came from too.

Maybe I will take a chance on this set at Best Buy, then.

If you all don't want to watch through all of your discs to check if they are undamaged, just rip each one to your hard drive. If it rips fine, it will play fine.

Well, I bit on the deal and bought He-Man Season 1, Volume 1. A few of the trays had that tiny rough spot of plastic on them, and a few discs had a tiny scratch that wasn't visible until you held the discs up to the light. Hopefully they will play fine, and I won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

Check out He-Man.org if you want the latest statement from BCI. They say they'll mail you new discs and packaging if you have problems with it, so not to worry about buying the dvds.

Yeah, I read about that. The only problem is that you have to check the discs to make sure that they work, and that can be a chore. I'll probably just try to rip them and assume that they are OK if they rip fully.

Yeah, I went through 5 different sets and they were all scratched. The woman I spoke to at BCI said she'd send me replacement discs and I'd have to send mine back. I did notice a jump on the first disc with the first episode where He-Man transforms the first time, you can hear the audio jump very briefly. It is bullcrap that they put this out and is gonna be a pain to get new ones.

You mean Thundercats had scratch issues as well?

I think one of the discs on Thundercats was completely defective.

Man, I'm glad I didn't buy it yet then. Have they corrected the issue?

Sorry, I had a bit of a mixup with the info. Here's some more information:

Thundercats DVD Recall!

WB to replace faulty discs.

by Kyle Watson

September 6, 2005 - Eye of Thundera! Warner Brothers is sending out the cat's signal, albeit surreptitiously, for everyone who purchased Thundercats Season 1 Volume 1. As mentioned in our review, the second episode "The Unholy Alliance" is missing its background musical score on the English dialog track. In a show of mercy, WB is offering a replacement disc free of charge - notwithstanding 4 to 6 weeks' shipping time.

If you purchased the original set - which was subsequently broken down into single-disc releases - contact Warner Brothers at 1-800-553-6937 to replace the faulty disc. Thus far, no recall was made at the retail level, so chances are you got a bad disc even if you only bought the set recently. The system will ask for your name, address, phone number, and the name of the store where you originally purchased the disc.

A self-addressed envelope will be sent for you to send back disc one, and a replacement copy will arrive in a few weeks. No word yet if this disc will also fix the 'syndicated cut' versions of episodes one and two that were included on Disc One. We've already sent for our copy, and we'll keep you updated on any other changes the disc may have. Mark this one up next to the Simpsons Season 6 box replacement as another victory for the DVD community.
