Week of 10/7 VG Ads: Target, CC, BB

This week's ads are brought to you by your good friends at Sony. Now, a word from our sponsors:

Hello fellow gamers, it's your pals at Sony. Remember when we didn't put malware on CDs, made consoles that didn't cost more than an engagement ring (two month's salary lasts...as long as we say it does), and didn't pressure retailers to go after people who leaked ads? Remember? Yeah, we don't either, we were hoping you did.

thanks for the ad and all but what you posted above is something a fanboy would post. seriously, all this sony hate is getting ridiculous. i agree sony hasn't been up to par with what they had with the ps2 but its only been less than a year into their new console. at least theyre heading in the right direction now with their new $400 price point and great holiday line up. its not like microsoft hasn't had their fair share of *screw the customer" moments, especially with the ridiculous 360 hardware failure rate. it took them how long again to admit there was a real problem with the 360?

CC has Fable: The Lost Chapters for XBox $4.99. If they don't have it just bring the ad and price match it at BB like I did for $4.99. BB also has Burnout 3: Takedown and other games like MK: Armageddon for $4.99. Several other games are $9.99 like Chronicles of Riddick.

If you would have been paying attention, you'd know that Sony is HIGHLY suspected in the effort to out Speedy (who had been supplying the ads a bit more reliably than this dude). Combine this with the obvious sponsorship of this week's ads (look at all the Blu-Rays advertised in the DVD thread), and you get a not-so-subtle jab at a corporation with nothing better to do than to make stupid decisions.

Want proof? How about yet another PS3 with absolutely NO backwards compatability.

Perhaps next time know a little background about the situation before you go on a rant from left field.

and looks whos ranting now. sony out to get speedy? i doubt it. have any evidence of serious claims? nope, you don't. you fanboys will look for anything to latch on. advertisements? so what if blu-rays are advertised heavily. its the better selling better format over HD-Dvds. wow! who could have imagined it! a corporation looking to sell its better selling items  . and btw, you need to know a little background of the 400 ps3 situation before you rant, there IS BC. for the ps1 that is, but nonetheless there is BC.

I'll give you a break since you're new. But do your homework before you post again. Speedy posted the PS3 price drop and CC went after the poster. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who is pushing the buttons.

This is what, your sixth post here? Take a pill. Regardless, this doesn't belong in this thread. If you want to comment on the SPeedy/CC situation, find the right thread. If you want to criticize the OP because you don't have a sense of humor, take it to PMs.

I could be wrong and correct me if I am, but didn't Speedy himself SAY he could get into serious trouble for doing what he did? I mean, these are, after all, corporate secrets. Frivelous, stupid, and shallow secrets, but corporate secrets nonetheless. If someone can get fired from Meijers by telling a customer and item is going on sale next week, you'd think the same logic could be applied here. And by Speedy's own admission, no less.

Frankly, I don't see the humor in the original thread. In fact, it's quite humorless. It seems to be a checklist of all the retarded stuff fanboys dredge up. The only thing it seems to be missing is flying UMDs.

I can get behind some clever console bashing, but that's not even clever. I mean, thanks for the ads and all, but I do miss Sppedy. He was able to throw stuff up like this without bashing consoles or companies.

These threads should be about spreading information, not an agenda.
I can remember when you could count on a new release on sale for $10 cheaper than retail on it's first week of release. You could also count on a buy 2 get 1 free sale every month or two at BB and CC. What happened to video game deals?
I think those deals have dried up since we are getting close to xmas season. Yes, as soon as summer ends most of the stores dry up on deals.

I also remember places having 10 bucks off all new games. And the local frys would sometimes mark off $20 bucks off a new game. It was crazy, but I think those days are over. If only the console race was closer I think we would see more deals on games.

If he comes back, do you expect the same Speedy? It's hard not to hold a grudge against a company that is trying to bankrupt you.

TSD interjected commentary when he did the ads. People didn't like it, and he took his ball and went home. Then Speedy came. We get the ads a full week early, be thankful that they are getting posted.

I'll take questionable humor and ads a week early than no ads at all. Maybe whatever criticism you have over how it's done should be taken to PM with the OP. And if it isn't that important to discuss via PM, then it isn't that important to bring up in a thread.

Unless, of course, we don't want the ads at all?

Yeah, I have to agree here. I'm willing to cut anyone who provides early ads some slack. It's not like they're getting paid to bring them to us.

Yeah, I expected this to be the norm and held out for these deals, but I haven't come across one since Bioshock. Which, actually, wasn't a very long time ago.

I'm disappointed on the lack of a similar deal for Halo 3 and Orange Box.

Although, I'd have to say, that Best Buy offered pretty reasonable deal for people wanting to spend the extra money for more stuff ($5 for a 1600 point card, and $10 giftcard with the purchase of an accessory).

For those that don't go to the DVD section, CC is doing buy 2 get 1 free on SELECT Blu-Ray movies this week.

Edit: My bad. I didn't read the fine print. I was so excited to get Casino Royale and Black Hawk Down plus random movie on Blu-Ray. Many of the 14 Blu-Rays available on this promotion were included with the summer mail-in offer with Blu-Ray machine purchase.

Anyone else holding out on buying the orange box in a vain hope that they will eventually release the canceled black box for cheaper?
Anyone else holding out on buying the orange box in a vain hope that they will eventually release the canceled black box for cheaper?
You'd have to be an idiot to do that, considering that the individual prices of the three new games included in the Orange Box add up to $80, and so I somehow doubt the would sell a pack for cheaper than $50 or $60.

The only reason people were pissed that the Black Box was cancelled was because they thought the Orange Box was going to be a lot more expensive than it is.
Anyone else holding out on buying the orange box in a vain hope that they will eventually release the canceled black box for cheaper?
The cancelled Black Box would have been $30 anyway, and CC has it for $38. You might as well get it now since even the normal price is amazing(5 games for $45 or $50)

No, it would NOT have been $30. Episode 2 by itself costs $30.

Yeah, you guys have a point, but I really think that these individual prices were ramped up to make the orange box seem like an even better deal (not that it isn't). Whatever, I guess I'll probably get it eventually. I just have to decide whether to get it for the PC or 360...

Hm, BB is continuing with the 40" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV + 1 Select Game + 1 Select Blu-Ray Movie + 60GB PS3 for $2090-ish bundle this week. Not too bad, if you were in the market for a 40" LCD HDTV anyway...

Of course I stopped getting CC ads in the mail so I can't even pm to Walmart for the Orange Box. Maybe I can print the ad and they will accept it. (my nearest CC is an hour's drive)
For the CC ad, are any of those 2PM games guaranteed for the $20 gift card?
nope, have the ad in front of me and no mention of it

Thanks so much for the ads.

I'm still contemplating buying The Orange Box PC.

Anyone think I'll be able to find it at this same price or cheaper around Christmas (not black friday)?
Thanks so much for the ads.

I'm doubting it, but I guess you could always pricematch at a target or wal-mart. I believe they have a 90 day return policy (Target for sure).

It will be hard (imo) to not open it and play it if I did that
I love how they advertise the new Nancy Drew PC game rather than the Orange Box for PC. Bravo, Target. Bravo. :applause:
Yeah, but where else is a game like Nancy Drew gonna sell better though?
Leave the "Orange Box" to the fanboy clubhouse stores.

...interesting how they beat Spielberg to the title for Indiana Jones's latest.
I'd say more, but I'm too scared of being fired/sued by him for saying anything about it, despite knowing nothing and having no involvement.

Wait, hold up-- what's this "malware on CD" that the OP claims Sony put out? Lil' help on that tidbit, please.

And I can't believe only one retailer put FF Tactics for PSP in their ad... and it's out WEDNESDAY rather than Tuesday. Jeez louise.

Sony put malware/rootkits on their cds to spy on you and they were damn near impossible to get rid of. Malware/rootkit authors got ahold of it and started storming the web with all kinds of nasty crap. Sony was in a class action lawsuit that merely gave them a slap on the wrist, but the damage was done. Then it turns out that they put rootkits again on cds. Still, the consumer still has it fresh in their mind and Sony has been paying dearly for it.

Anyway, no deals on the Orange Box really really sucks. Maybe Fry's will put a small deal out. Anyway, thanks AdMan.

I could see it on sale for $30 for PC in a holiday sale, gogamer sale or Amazon DOTD, but that would probably be the cheapest. $37.99 is good enough for me.

I've decided to go to BB and pricematch the orange box. I havn't pm'd before, so do I go to the customer service to pay or do I pay at the register? Also, is BestBuy actually going to have it tomorrow, or are they going to have it on wednesday?
I've decided to go to BB and pricematch the orange box. Bring the CC ad to Best Buy, pick up the game and take that to the Customer Service desk and show them the ad. They may "call the store", but they should PM the game for you eventually.

Only Circuit City will have the Orange Box for the pc tomorrow. In the ads it says wednesday for everywhere else (dunno about wal mart though)

Just got back from Circuit City. The Orange Box was nowhere to be found and they didn't know what I was talking about when I asked about it. Still shows "Coming Soon" on their website and they wouldn't let me preorder it even though it shows it will be released today.

Orange Box has always had an official release date of 10/10. Don't know why the CC circular advertised its release as one day earlier. Looks like they don't actually have it today, based on rennervision's account and the CC website.

fuck CC, they made me go all the way there because of their stupid "Available Tuesday" label and then tell me they can't find it. Now I find out that the game isn't even releasing on Steam til tomorrow. fuck you CC. I've been screwed over enough times by CC to be this annoyed. I'll just go price match it at Best Buy tomorrow.

Good thing I called... and called, and called... and finally got some slob on the line from CC. I asked if they had the Orange Box, and I get:

"uhh... our software come in awn wednesday and thursday"

"Yeah... but the ad says available TUESDAY"

"...but our software come in awn wednesday... or maybe thursday..."

[realizing this chick does not understand the concept of, 'if an ad says something, it ought to be true']

"oookay... thanks"

Ohhh Circuit Shitty's level of suck knows no bounds sometimes. :wall:

Hahah, I checked my CC also finding out they haven't received it. Played the "In Stock before 2PM" card and surprisingly it worked o.o $17.99 Orange Box ftw.
Ohhh Circuit Shitty's level of suck knows no bounds sometimes. :wall:
Tell me about it. Not only did I get screwed out of the MS point deal, but several CDs they ad'd never came in until two weeks later and they don't do rainchecks anymore.

I think their crowning achievement, however, was when I was hunting for the component AV cables for PSP mid September (Entertainment Pack FTW). So the clod on the phone started giving me a speel about how those systems suck, DS rocks, and Halo 3 is coming soon, I should buy that instead. So I asked again if he had the cables for PSP-2000s or not and then he said "Dude, PSP 2000 is a Korea market exclusive. You didn't know this?'
Me: "Do you have the Silver PSPs with Daxter and Family Guy in stock?"
Himm: Umm, yeah.
Me: "Then you need to send those back to Sony, explaining they are a Korean market exclusive.

Will this work if I print out CC's weekly ad flyer from their website?

I've had Best Buy flat out refuse to price match before, even though I had the other store's flyer with me. It's just too much hassle, so I would rather go to CC. Of course, their website still shows the release date as 10/9 and "Coming Soon."
