is the welcome back program ending today? A friend told me heard it was ending this weekend. I did a search and found a few articles saying it may be. Does anyone know?

If so i need to d.load the games asap, i havent done taht yet since my ps3 has been screwed up (doesn't read disks)
 
you guys had a month to download this shit. if you missed out, thats your own fault. theyve been open with how long you have till they pull it.
 
Christina Lee from Pulse said it would end today, 7/3/11. I activated my free PSN+ 30 day trial so I can play the games that are free for members. Already beat Streets of Rage 2, my favorite beat em up. :)
That's really about all I plan to do with the trial; I'm not subscribing. I hate the idea of paying for a game, even discounted, when I'm already paying for a subscription service, and then losing it when I don't renew. Stuff that.

im trying to call sony right now and see whats up.. if they pulled it early im gonna be PISSED. I think i may not even bother replacing my system, screw Sony if thats the case... first the system dies, then the whole PSN fiasco, then they end the welcome back program early?!
 
It's still available under your PSN Account Management.

Just go into Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List and then select SCEA Promotion.

You can select your free games from there.

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but it's how it shows up on my PS3.

If I know there's a deadline(which they were saying for a while would be July 3rd), I get my shit picked out sooner than the deadline.
 
no, doesn't work for me since i havent actually started getting them. Like i said i havent used it in over a month since it stoped reading disks after locking up on me playing a BD

You tried the file restore thing? What about looking into replacing the Blu-Ray drive yourself? That should help and cost less than sending it into Sony.

The official blog said it expires today, and it supposedly ended on midnight july 3rd. I don't know why it's still counting down on the page you linked to.. midnight has already passed. For some reason they think midnight july 3rd = midnight july 4th lol..

yes file restore didn't work =( im gonna try a full format here soon probably but wanted to get these games on my account first

*UPDATE* it is over, but i called sony and bitched at them. The guy said hes gonna send me an email in 3-5 business days with a 24 hour window to get the games. I need to keep an eye out on my account. Anyone else who missed out should try calling in ASAP

well i grabbed LBP (PS3) and Killzone (PSP) and im fine with that. theres nothing else on the lists that really interests me to be honest. just glad i used my free 30 days of PS+ so i can molest the uncharted 3 beta
 
ya honeslty i just wanted the Zombie game, and maybe little big plannet. A couple psp games would be cool too. Didn't care about ps+ at all. This was chicken shit of Sony frankly. When yo say something ends on July 3rd that means midnight on july 3rd, not midnight on July 2nd

I thought that midnight July 3rd technically means 12 am July 3rd. If they were to say that the promotion ends TONIGHT, it would mean midnight July 4th. That's how I see it anyway, but of course I guess I could be wrong. Either way, they said that the welcome back promotion ends today, and if it were going to be 12 am July 4th, that would be a major contradiction.

Q: How long do I have to get into the PlayStation Store and receive my content for Welcome Back?
A: Access to the Welcome Back content will be expiring on July 3. Once this date has passed, the Welcome Back section in the PlayStation Store will be removed.

no thats exactly it. peoples stupidity/lack of being able to read properly/not being able to tell time properly are to blame.
 
Apparently Sony's rationale behind pulling this early is that "July 3" was in reference to Japan Time. WHAT...THE...

so why wait until the very last day to redeem your stuff? so your free shit can be more free? or just to use another ps+ trial on a 2nd account. it said on the 3rd, which when i read it mean 12am on the 3rd. japan time or not you had plenty of time to get your free stuff. no one was so swamped with stuff that they couldnt turn on their ps3, go to the store and then let shit download while they leave.
 
Speaking of the UC3 beta, I'm assuming that once your PSN+ trial ends then you're locked out of the UC3 beta, since it does say PSN+ exclusive. So I guess I'm downloading this crap now just to be able to play it for a week and then have to delete it from my hdd.:roll:

If it does end when your PS+ expires, you could always wait for someone to post a code in the PS3 code drop thread, a ton of them are posted daily. I'd give you mine if I hadn't given it to a CAG already.
 
I really only wanna play it for a couple of days for the co-op mode(s) with a few friends and after I see the ending of each lil story mode I'll probably just delete it myself since the mp in games like Uncharted never really keeps me coming back, especially since so many folks end up playing 24/7 and get a lil too good for my liking.:cry::whistle2:#

You will be able to play it. THey usually open this up to everyone and NO ONE would be so stupid to kill of THOUSANDS (millions?) of beta testers because they ran out of plus time.

Yeah, I think that's what is going to happen, and it's why I waited until a couple days ago to redeem my free 30 day PSN+. But like sunghost said, you'll probably be able to find a code in the Contest/Free Stuff forum. EDIT: Missed your other post. Yea, there's not that much in the way of co-op modes in this beta; you should be able to get your fill of it in the time you have.

I've never seen a company give an end date like that. I take "through July 3" to mean: Ends 12am July 4th, as in one minute after 11:59pm July 3rd. Regardless of whether someone is stupid for waiting so long to download the stuff, Sony is also stupid for doing something so...stupid.

My one buddy that's been bugging me to download the beta said it's supposed to open to everyone on the 5th, so I guess in a few more days there's going to be a lot more people playing this.

I just looked it up and you're right. Kinda weird that PSN+ subscribers only get a 7 day head start, but the more players the better.

Sony usually (always?) does open betas at some point and many just want the "I got in before you" hype. Others want hype from gimmicks like Creepy Crawlers which is only obtainable though media voucher. Its quite rare to the point most people dont know what it is when I use it.

Now lets be fair... how many people DIDNT get into the beta?

  • Everyone who joined prior to April 2011 should be able to redeem Welcome Back items which includes plus. So 80%+ should 100% get in from that.
  • Everyone who bought inFAMOUS 2 got a key.
  • @heyplaystation was giving away 200 a day. Ign gave away atleast 50. I had 29 beta keys that I gave away. There are threads devoted to the subject. etc

who does that really leave out?
 
If today was the last day, claiming a plus acct would mean having 5 Tues PS Store discount updates instead of 4. Something in the same vein as those that waited for the UC3 beta. That's CAG Style!

I personally wanted a $15 discount on their $60 (1+2yr) warranty should another PS3 deal come within 30 days. I don't care that much for plus otherwise (even though I'm a half off PSN whore).

Too bad sony, I got your 4 games and you could've convinced me to buy another machine.

I don't care if I had 2 years to claim the stuff from the program, when they clearly state "..through July 3rd", then "After that date has passed...", it should be available at least until the first time zone passes 11:59 tonight.

I got my games, but was holding out on the P+ 30 days. Oh well, time to send out some emails to Sony.
 
Yea I did my 2nd redeem yesterday at 11 ish. I wan't sure if they meant 12:01 7/3 or the 11:59 PM. Still what's 1 day. Everone dont forget about it!
 
So glad I didn't wait until the last second for my main accounts but missed out on a lot of my extra ones. I agree with anyone that thinks shutting the offer down midday is stupid but I don't blame Sony for anything when it's on us to get it within a month's time.
 
i know 8bit keeps saying "but you had a month" in reality they shouldnt have had any expiration date, it should end when you download you free games. period. but thats my stupid opinion
 
Lawyers and PR people specifically craft these statements with built-in semantic wording bullshit. Sony said through in an official capacity multiple times and people should hold them to that.

At the very least it's slimy and further proof that Sony views their users and customers in an antagonistic light and any company which honestly feels that they can continue to do that in the internet age with social media dominance and survive the PR fallout unscathed is kidding themselves. Knowing people these days there will probably even be a lawsuit or two filed because of a silly word like through.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Today is still the 3rd and it clearly states that after the 3rd, you're time is up. It doesn't matter if you start dl-ing tonight at 11:59:59. They shouldn't have cut it short. This is just lame.

They also said that it expires today (July 3rd). They could have worded it better, I'll give you that. I don't believe they cut it short, I think its just that their wording was terrible. Really though.. they didn't even list a time zone for the end date, I don't think anyone should have gambled based on that.
 
All the "you had a month" arguments aside, some of us wanted to wait until the last possible day to redeem the ps+ subscription because nothing showed up in the first month that we wanted. I checked week after week to see if there was anything for free or had a price cut for which I should redeem my + sub, but no dice. So, I wanted to wait for the last day to go ahead and maximize my chances at actually using it for something.

As far as the "They clearly said it would expire on July 3rd", well yeah. But that crap always varies as whether it will actually become invalid on the specified date, or if it will become invalid at the end of the specified date. And they originally said, when it was first detailed, that it would last through July 3rd. So, I thought I had nothing to worry about. I had originally thought to redeem 1 day early, just to play it safe, but I was busy most of the day and it slipped my mind until this morning.

I also found the Sony employee's response via Twitter pretty douchey. There were reasons for some of us to wait!

I found the entire Welcome Back program pretty underwhelming. The games sucked. The free PS Plus was lame because there was absolutely nothing good that was free or worth buying on sale for the past month. Sony could have done a much better job enticing people to pay for the subscription but they didn't really offer anything good. I would still consider paying for a subscription, but only for the automatic downloads.

Sony pretty much doesn't care about its customers, and I don't know why anyone would assume they do. That Twitter response pretty much goes with the rest of the way they handled and communicated with the PSN hack.

You DID have a full month to get your shit, it's not Sony's problem if you feel you had to wait for one reason or another till the cut-off day to get the stuff.

It was YOUR choice to wait till the very last second, and now you're pissed because YOU waited so long. Kick Yourself in the ass, but don't go putting the blame on Sony for cutting a few hours off the deadline. It's your own fault for putting it off.

I missed out, but it's not a huge deal. I'm honestly more annoyed about the "YOU HAD A MONTH!1" people. Yeah, I know how much time I had. I read what Sony sent me. I decided to cash in within the time frame and was unable to because they ended it before they said they would. What if Sony would have ended it two days in advance? Where's your threshold, illogical people?
 
There really is no valid argument to support Sony ending the program at any time other than midnight today. Seriously.
 
Should have expected it from Sony, they're a bunch of douches. Glad I downloaded mine the other day. Still sucks some people missed out because of Sony's miscommunication.

You don't know what words mean. When something lasts "through" a certain date or time frame, it means, well, it lasts through that date or time frame. How can you bitch or ridicule people for attempting to redeem something they were entitled to? Whether they're trying to redeem it on the first day, the 27th day, or the last day, those days all count the same.

I didn't care about/or had the games gameshared, but the sheer lack of logic astonishes me.

Here, idiots, let's use this logic for ebay auctions, yeah, you do the math. No offense, but the people arguing with time frames and not knowing how to put a percentage sign in the correct place need not post.
