Flame me all you want, I'm just pointing this out. I know, you don't want all these features and hate Sony for making you get all of them. Great, I don't care. I'm simply pointing out how much cheaper the PS3 is than a 360 of the same capabilities.

Basically, when comparing the high end model PS3 to the 360,

- Wifi built in ($100 for that on the 360!)
- HDMI
- Memory stick slots
- Complete backwards compatibility
- 40 GB more space ($200 if you wanted that much more for your 360)
- Possibly free online service (I won't include this in the total)
- Last and to me it's really the least important, Blu-Ray. If you were to get an HD-DVD adaptor for your 360, it would be $200. Even if you don't want to watch movies, I honestly think this generation eventually (now according to Kojima) needs a higher amount of space than what a DVD could provide. And I think the name is cool.

In conclusion:

Premium 360 = $400
Play and charge kit = $20 per controller
Wifi adaptor = $100
40 GB worth of HD space = $200
HD-DVD drive = $200
Total = $900 (plus play and charge kits), without memory stick slots, 7 controller support, Linux, browser, ability to use any 2.5 inch hard drive, complete BC, bluetooth, and maybe free online.

I'm prepared to be torn apart for this, I know I know, you don't want all that stuff, but I don't care, I'm just pointing out $600 is better than a 360 of the same configuration at $900.

Anyway, I'll compare the low end model PS3 to the core 360.

Core 360 = $300
20 GB hard drive = $100
HD-DVD drive = $200
Total = $600, minus bluetooth, 7 controller support, browser, full BC, ability to use any 2.5 inch hard drive, Linux, and possibly free online service. This doesn't matter though, since obviously the Premium 360 and $600 PS3 are the better buys.

I know I excluded the headset from the premium 360, I'm not sure about the pricing of Sony's when it comes out so I didn't include it. If there's anything from either side I'm forgetting go ahead and say it.

Before it's asked, I'm getting a 360 in two weeks, I play it all the time at my buddy's house and love it, I'm just annoyed of the PS3 price bashing. Some people aren't aware of everything that easily justifies the price tag, usually just blame Blu-Ray for the price.

Play and Charge kit isn't required at all... I don't have one, I play my 360 a ton, and I've only had to change the batteries out once.

Sure, it's nice to have one, but owning one is about as essential as owning a remote... it's something nice to have, but it's in no way required as long as you have some batteries laying around (which I do).

And there is no such thing as a 40 GB hard drive for the 360, IIRC.

You shouldn't be sure of any of the pricing, mostly becuase it isn't even being released until November...cough, cough.....

In fact, I wouldn't take bets on the certainty of the features either. Features have a funny way of appearing and disappearing before release. I also wouldn't bet on free online services, a free linux capability, or complete backward compatibility. Something tells me Sony is going to have to cash in on the monthly service fee to stay afloat.

100.00 WiFi Adaptor? Sure. But this is cheapassgamer. Most people that want the WiFi bought a Linksys B Gaming Adaptor and saved themselves close to $70.00.

HDMI - How many people have HDMI ready sets?
Memory sticks - what's the point with USB2.0 slots which can read thumb drives?
Complete backwards compatibility - This is ok and BC is very important IMO.
40 GB - Seeing as how our 360 hasn't even used up 3GB, I don't see the point.
Possibly Free Online Service - Can't comment since this isn't final, nor do I see it to be a fully fledged online service equal to Live if it is free.
Blu-Ray - In theory, Blu-Ray is great. But so far, it's proven to be total shit. Sony's biggest rally for this was the size and yet, they can't get anything above the single layer (25GB) discs to work outside the real work and the image quality thus far lacks compared to HD-DVD.

First in terms of the HDD who fucking cares given that you can swap it out for a bigger, and CHEAPER, HDD?
Memory Stick slots. Since this will be including a HDD why does it matter? If you're going to argue for BC these are memory stick NOT card slots. The WiFi and HDMI are about the only benefits you can argue.
Yeah you can say Blu-Ray but so far that anti-scratch coating hasn't appeared so who knows if after the first few times pushing a game in and out might scratch it and make it impossible to play or even in the case of accidentally bumping the console a time or two. Sure the extra disc space SOUNDS great but if the player can't reliability access it what's it worth?

what you completely looked over was the PS3 controller cost, but you added it in for the 360. It's a intresting comparison, but in excution, I don't think anyone would attempt this.

But Sony is forcing us to buy this $600 piece of equipment where as M$ is giving us an option to include if we want it. Right now I dont need a hd dvd player or 40gig hdd

Why bother with these kind of posts? You can't try to reason with fanboys. I just wish that the people that don't plan on buying a PS3 should stay out of the forum.

I'm going to go preorder a PS3 now.
Xbox Fanboys are just mad at the price, cause they waisted all of their money purchasing shitty rehashed arcade games for 5$ on XboxLive.
Because we all know MS forced people to buy the arcade games against their will.

You're an idiot.

I'm not the one buying Bejeweled for 10 bucks!

OH SNAP. I thought I was the only one!

LET'S PLAY!
I'm not the one buying Bejeweled for 10 bucks!
Neither did I?

What's your point?

Your original point was that Xbox fanboys are angry because they wasted their money on Live Arcade, but Microsoft dosen't force people to buy the arcade games... you buy them because you like them, or you don't buy them because you don't think they are a good deal. You're acting like MS forces everyone to buy Bejeweled for 10 bucks... news flash, if it's not a good deal, nobody makes you buy it.

I know people who have a 360 who have avoided everything in the arcade.

OP, sorry, but I know your topic was trying to be serious but it's already been degraded by idiots... I don't think you'll get a meaningful discussion here.

I'm just being a smartass, I'm sure both systems will have there ups and downs, I just can't see myself spending 39859835$ on either system, but 360 might be nice next year.

And about pay-to-download games, isn't Sony doing that with PSP...?

unfortunately, we will have to continue to endure these types of point, counterpoint flamebait serious discussions until next year when the ps3 will be available to the masses. i know launch is 2006, but i'm betting it will be 2007 before we have one. personally, i'm not getting one until the beta testers report back on the blu ray quality, the online service and the games are out.

These threads are always hillariously entertaining though if you don't attach your existence to a console. I think the Xbox 360 sucks because it's the only system where you can't wave your controller around for in game effects!

Being that half of the OPs points are pure speculation at price point of accessories(BTW you forgot to add the PS1/PS2 memory card adapter) and functionality I see the OP's attempt as a failure. Maybe change the Topic to "A Fanboys attempt at making the PS3 seem better than a 360" When it comes down to it, buy the system(s) that has the games you want, is the price you want and has the features that you want.

I'm nitpicking, but its 100 dollars worth of nitpicking. technically you get 20 gigs with the premium, so you only need to buy one 20 gig harddrive to get to 40 gigs. So your "price" is really 800.

But, my 360 syncs with my computer to stream music and videos off of it, thats one of the benefits I can think of right now that I don't think the ps3 can do.

I applaud your effort, but $600/$500 is still greater than $400/$300. I'm sure I'll need lots of those accessories, but the up-front value still doesn't prove anything.

Actually he's talking about the PS3 having 40 more gigs, the PS3 $600 version has a 60gb HDD, so you'd have to buy 2 more HDDs (a total of 40 more gbs) on the 360 to equal that.

If you wanted a core system to = PS3 $600 value you'd have to do this...

1. Purchase Console = $300
2. Buy 3 Hardrives = $300
3. Sell your wired controller for 2 Wireless = $100
4. Buy HDDVD drive addon = $100-200
5. Purchase atleast 1 year of online = $50
6. Purchase Wifi Adapter = $100
7. HDMI cable/support = $20

total : $970-1070

Hold on, before you mention "complete" backwards compatibility, note that a few PS1 games did not work on the PS2. Also, check this out...
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6136677.html

Looks like PS3 owners may be "underpromised and overdelivered"...

Also, as a secuity nut, I will not use Wi-fi. A hard line is more secure, and always offers a higher bandwidth that wi-fi.

Oh come on- lets add to the flame war!

You could buy a PC, C++, Java and a few other programing languages- use a local unsecured Wi-fi connection to unleash the

"Real time weapon change, flip crabs on back for Massive Damage" Virus to take down the WTFBBQOMG defense/education/country network.

So..... what does my post have to do with reality or even the original post?

Nothing you think- it's completely stupid and worthless.

Just like the original post.

Ahh you say- that's what it has in common. Both this post and the Original post are completely retarded.

*Friedram gives you a big hi-five for figuring it out*

Um, since when does anyone buy the Xbox 360 overpriced POS wireless adapter? Also, since when is the PS3 shipping with two controllers? Also, isn't your math completely and utterly flawed since your paying MSRP for all of that stuff when people end up buying this stuff when it's on sale (or when there's a massive glitch in the Sears ad).

Lets see, i bought a premium in Jan, got 10% off since i was working at walmart. Sold the limited remote and headset since i didn't need them for $40. So i got one for $320. Already had live membership from original xbox, rechargeable batteries, HDTV, and the router is 3 feet away. Where do i fit in?

:)

FYI, I don't hate Sony, I have a PSP

Just wanted to bump this since Kotaku posted basically the same thing. Anybody with the ability to comment want to post a link to this? I have some things they didn't include.
