oh... and metroid sucks ass for DS... dont form and opinion of the DS on that demo at all
Well since this seems to be a failure, and mario is really the only successful launch title, do you think the 150 price tag is really worth it?

I doubt it is worth it right now. I would wait to even consider it until they get like warioware and mario kart and all that good stuff. And it looks pretty awkward to play the games using a stylus pen.

It's out today, and you call it a failure? There are is still 60 days for launch titles to come out.
Can you give a little reveiw about how much better the screen is to play gba games compared to the gbasp?
size, brightness, etc...?
Well, I don't have it yet, but I can already tell you that the screens are near the same size as the GBA's, and the brightness will be better due to the backlit screens.

The Metroid demo was pretty awesome, IMO. I'm kinda excited to get the full game, I'm just hoping the environments are a bit better - in single player, everything seems to be Doom 3-esque small rooms, small corridors.

um... those aren't "launch titles" - they are just "games coming out later"...

okay... playing GBA games on the DS is awesome... you can pick whether you want to display to game on the top or bottom screen. The backlight makes everything much more vibrant too! the only setback are the button set up... it is quite different from the GBA SP on where the face buttons (a,b) are located... you get used to it tho thank god! also... there is a small black boarder on the screen because the DS has a slightly bigger screen than GBA

good stuff

oh... and every DS case (the ones the games come in... like mini DVD's) have GBA game holders! you can order those blank cases off of the nintendo store website... i just ordered 10 for 12 bucks shipped!

wrong.... launch titles are any titles that come out before or up to 60 days after the console itself is released

The problem is, without these guys buying the systems when they come out, how else are we going to get the information we need to decide for ourselves?

Personally, I'd rather hear Stealthy's opinion on the DS over some schmucks over at IGN. The same goes for the other CAGers who have bought the DS as well. I look forward to everyone's impressions, good or bad.

LOL, I love how shaq-fuing jaded some people on these forums are. The DS is selling out everywhere and somehow it is a failure. Tell that to Nintendo.

It may not be a failure sales wise, but it sure is a failure in terms of games.

Seriously, that's just stupid. Who made that up? I'm pretty sure Goldeneye was not refered to as a launch title for the N64. I'm not buying it.

I believe he was referring to First Hunt being a failure not the actual DS. But, far be it for me to put words in other peoples mouths.

Anyways, I'll get a DS when Zoo Keeper comes out, me and that game are the best of friends.

damn. i wasn't gonna get this thing yet, but i just couldn't help it. I must say, the controls take some getting used to, but i love it so far. at least they're trying something different! also, the backlit screen is great for my dark-ass Castlevania games.
I didnt mean failure, but I bet people were expecting more....
Again, you can't say considering you don't have it.

hey stealthyseal: will you let us know when you get those case in the mail from nintendo? i'd like to get some too so i can put all my GBA games in them, but i'm scared that they might not have the GBA slot in them. you know, like how some PS2 cases have memory card slots and others don't.

let me know.
PS2 cases without the memory card holder are just DVD cases, not PS2 cases. I thought.
True, but PS2 cases have a slight metallic-blue tint to the plastic. It'd only matter to the truly anal collector, I suppose.

Back to the original topic, though, I'd have to say I'm satisfied with my DS. Feel the Magic is really fun so far. Metroid controls pretty well with the thumbstrap and looks pretty good -- I'm having trouble using the map at all with my thumb or hand + stylus in the way, but no big deal I guess.

Mario plays pretty poorly using the default setup with the control pad. Something is pretty uncomfortable about running in 3D by using a button, plus the long jump is awkward (R + Y + A). I switched to using the thumbstrap control option, and it is MUCH better but takes some getting used to.

I had planned on picking up my pre-ordered DS tomorrow while at the office. I just called the office to check my vm and EB left a message telling me to pick up by 3 pm PST or they wld have to move to the next person. For those who planned on picking up their pre-orders later they may want to call and check.
PS2 cases without the memory card holder are just DVD cases, not PS2 cases. I thought.
Gradius 3 & 4 for (PS2) cases don't have memory card slot in it.

Touching is EXCELLENT. The controls on the DS are surprisingly effective seeing as there is no actual joystick. We will see how it compares to PSP, I have a feeling Nintendo didn't a joystick for a reason... I could just see all the problems with it after normal use for a couple of years. Mario 64 DS is definitly worth the price of submission, Metroid Prime DS is... intresting. You can obviously tell that it wasn't made by Retro. It should have been. But its got a year to simmer, so lets see how it goes. Oh the potential of this system...

It was a launch title, not many of those games had a memory card slot in them. It was mostly games that came later.

Wrong again buddy. Any title that comes out within the first 60 days after the DS launches is considered a launch title. Off the top of my head, Mr. Driller DS comes out next week and is considered a launch title.

I just finished charging mine up and am going to play later tonight.

Messed around with pico chat and did the initial setup.

I enjoyed playing the metroid demo at Best Buy which in turn made me get up early this morning to go pick one up. I was not going to get one at launch but after trying the demo I was very impressed with the system.

Picked up Mario and looking to get Feel the Magic later this week.

I will post impressions after playing for a while, but so far I think Nintendo might have something really innovative here. Lets just hope the pusblishers will take full advantage of the technology in the future.
Kinda off topic but how long did it take to charge for you guys?
You don't have to charge it right out of the box. It's partially charged, but it's recommended. Mine took about 2 hours to charge.

Everyone had the DS in stock today...

Target @ 11:00am - 2 on hold and six still avail. to sell

Best Buy @ 1:30pm - 66 to sell / 11 sold my 1:30 pm.

Electronics Boutique in the mall - this is where is gets funny - about 40 people in line buying their 'pre-orders'... and we know how damn slow EB lines are - those poor bastards!!!!!!!! Why-o-why must people feel the need to pre-order video games???

Where are you getting this oddball 60 day rule from? I think most people here understand the term "launch title", and I've never heard anything like this before.

Yeah, that 60 day think is 'yack'. First week game releases are considered LAUNCH TITLES. I know this cuz I was a sweet EB salesman in my early years!!! ha ha...

I think that for some reason, somewhere one of the video game companies (most likely Nintendo) established a 60 day rule as a "launch window." I know this doesn't make them launch titles and I'm not defending the idea but this seems to be the general rule. However, in my book, just because it is not in stores the same day as the system, it is not a launch title. But SSMB did not come out until a week or so after the GameCube and that was still considered a launch title.

Regardless, the amount of games on launch is still impressive for the amount of time they got the system together and then made it to store shelves. We saw it at E3 in May in prototype form and then the console made it to retail only 7 months later. If the titles out right now don't encourage you to buy one then I see no reason not to wait. I'm sure something will come out later that will make you want a DS. Or maybe not. We shall wait and see.
