This sucks. I can't believe they just let the CBA expire like that. This is going to wreak havoc on ticket sales in the US when they finally get it all straightened out. I'm just glad there was the World Cup tonight, but thats not enough. I am an addict of hockey, and I'm going through withdrawal.
 
Lat seasons hockey for my team (Dallas Stars) was boring as a dog's shit. The season before it was fun and exciting to me but this year it felt kind of dry and useless. Didn't watch much of it but still enjoyed a few of the good games that went on. Oh well...
 
I am just hoping they get the Collective Bargaining Agreement worked out as fast as possible. But if the players weren't so damn greedy, we wouldn't be going through this. All of the problems stemmed from the salary cap. So basically the players think that $8 million isn't enough money.
 
Worst part is that the winter will be filled with nothing but NBA highlights.

Oh, that and no hockey and the public will be even less interested in watching hockey.
 
It doesn't necessarily mean theres definitely no season, just that theres no season until theres an agreement. Now, its unlikely they will, and there probably won't be hockey this year, but its not a definite no at this point.

At least there will be AHL hockey. I can watch the Providence Bruins at least...

My captain had to be traded to Colorado so he could win a cup, because my owner is the 2nd cheapest bastard in the NHL. And our current captain signed a deal to play in Switzerland.

It would be bearable to watch the NBA all year if it didn't completely suck for the last decade. What did we do wrong to ruin the greatness for the NBA and NHL that was the 80s... Oh yeah, expansion. Too many teams, and in cities where no one gives a shit about either sport.

EDIT: And players skipping college/leaving early before they learn that basketball is a TEAM game is a big factor.
 
The NBA sucks. I'd rather watch golf.

And this is coming from someone who's favorite spectator sport is college basketball.

I will also miss hockey...good stuff.

I tell ya also, Ottawa is gonna be a different team when the NHL starts back up, not having Lalime and now acquiring the Dominator from the Ded Wings. At least we signed all our players except Brett Hull(DAMN COYOTES!), bur we have to be cheap and only sign them to one year deals. But I can see where they were coming from, what with the CBA expiring soon and all.
 
Oy I am dreading the news conference today. I bet it confirms my worst fears that this is going to be a long drawn out process. I just hope it aint like the 1994(Was that the year?) MLB.
 
Sucks though I always enjoyed watching highlights of the fights, and now that baseball is over I won't get to see any competetive ass kicking
 
This annoucement does suck. I was planning on going to a few NHL games this year. Maybe they won't can the entire season, (ie: they meet an agreement). Until then I guess I have NHL 2K5 ;)

If this whole season gets wiped out it probably means we will never see Yzerman, Stevens and Forsberg ever play another NHL game.
 
This sucks, after watching Ruutu score that goal for Finland (amazing) then Canada winning it all, I was looking forward to the season. Sabres lowered season ticket prices and Thomas Vanek left Minnesota early to play, but he still could play for Rochester at least.

Well my floor hockey league just started too, if only we didn't suck. We're trying to improve on a 0-28 season. 0 for 1 so far after only 3 guys and a goalie showed up.
 
I feel bad for hockey fans. I remember what it was like for the other major sports when they had there salary issues. At least they didn't wait before the playoffs like MLB did in 1994. That was the stupidest thing I ever saw in my life. I am not a devout hockey follower (I prefer the NBA even with its uninspired play by the player), but I do watch the occasional game and I will miss it. I don't know alot about hockey but from what I have read, the NHL is losing money overall. How the players could expect more money in that situation is beyond me.
 
Hi, metro Detroiter here...home of the Red Wins...and i think this will f-things up around here in a way they never expected.

This will probably get daphatty thinking a bit...but Ford field is scheduled to be the place for the 2006 Super Bowl. The money that Detroit makes off the wings is enormous, and taking away that revenue will make the plans to not make our city look like shit will be greatly hit.

Bugger.

Been a metro Detroiter (Warren) my whole life and I love the city, but no sum of money will prevent it from looking like shit for next year's MLB All-Star game or the '06 Super Bowl.
 
Well, there's always the WNHL, right? They have better fundamentals than the men's side, I bet.

The thing the players union can't seem to comprehend is the fact that the league does not make the television revenue that the other leagues do. That revenue is a big reason why the NFL, MLB and NBA are all doing well and why the increase in salaries can be justified.
Its sad that even a team like the Red Wings needs to at least reach the Stanley Cup finals just to break even. And they sell out for every home game and draw well in other cities too unlike many of the other smaller market teams.

I know. Supposedley, the League has lost I think at least a Billion dollars in 10 years or something enormous.

As long as this never happens to football, I'll be ok.
Maybe instead of showing hockey, ESPN can broadcast some English Primier League games. I'd watch soccer like that in a squirrel's heartbeat.
 
It's not that I think the players are saints, but it's not completely their fault that certain owners and GM's spend ridiculous amounts of money on not so good players and that the league expanded too much and too fast.

Agreed.

The NHL situation is undoubtedly crappy, but at least we've still got college hockey and the Plymouth Whalers here. If the WHA ever gets off the ground, we'll have that too...

Do you have Fox Sports World? they show EPL on there. Pretty fun stuff to watch. I personally am a fan of Arsenal. Can't beat Theirry Henry.
