What are you currently reading? Post here!

I just finished reading The Lovely Bones and am working my way through Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian.
I was thinking of starting It by Stephen King. If I loved Salem's Lot and The Stand, how does It fare?
It is one of my favorite King books. I would place it above Salem's Lot but on equal ground as The Stand. With King it's pretty much guaranteed that if you like one of his books, then you will like the others.
The Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan.
Ditto on this, I'm finally starting to pick it up again.

Around page 600 shit just gets crazy.
I just started reading The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn. It seems a little slow so far, but I'll keep reading to see if it grabs my attention.
I recently reread it for my M.A. exams. It does take a little while to get into the main action, but once its on the river, it's pretty entertaining from there on.

Reading Crime and Punishment right now. Took me long enough to get to it.

Just started Slaughterhouse Five, an early xmas gift from my gf. Love it so far, but it's hard to pick it up because the writing is just too absorbing for someone with my time constraints.

Slowly going through The Silence of the Lambs. I had read a little of Red Dragon and thought it was trash but this novel works very well hand n hand with its film counterpart. It adds a lot more depth to Starling's superior and that poor girl's plight down in the well. I'd say the book feels rather "timeless", but not perfect by any means.

I randomly started rereading "Streams of Silver" by R.A. Salvatore. I read chunks between sets of pullups in my basement. I should've dug out Homeland and started the Drizzt books in order.
Just finished Lord of Chaos, A Crown of Swords, and Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan. Now reading Winter's Heart.
I love seeing so many people doing re-reads or getting to the series for the first time thanks to the new book.

I just finished my re-read of the entire series (which has taken the better part of this year, reading these books and usually one other), and will be starting The Gathering Storm tonight or tomorrow.

Got it for only £1.29.

One of the Garrett PI books by Glen Cook. Which one? They're all the same and can be read through with half your mind turned off. It seems I pick one up every few years I go to the used book store/library thinking "I liked one of these books by this guy..."

Finished R.A. Salvatores The Demon Awakes, and I'm almost finished with the second book in tthe trilogy--The Demon Spirt. They're pretty good, but not as good as his dark elf series. And a lot of the characters are kind of rip offs of characters in that series. But still entertaining, disposable fantasy. Have the third book on my Kindle to read next, and will read something else before going on to the second trilogy in this series.

Also reading Outliers by Malcom Gladwell that I borrowed from my girlfriend. It's very enjoyable thus far.

A lady at work just loaned Under the Dome by Stephen King (this book is friggin huge!) to me so I'm gonna have to put Pirate Latitudes on hold for now.

I finished Superfreakanomics on the plane today. similar to Freakanomics but with new stories about behavioral economics, unintended consequences, etc. etc. which ive heard many of beforehand. overall, not that great but the deckled edges were a nice touch.

Now on to Economics in One Lesson by Hazlitt.

Finished The Outliers last week. It was pretty good, but the second half wasn't as good as the first. Made for good bathroom reading though, since the chapters are divided into short sub chapters. I'll probably borrow Gladwell's other 2 books Tipping Point and Blink from my girlfriend and read those as well sometime soon.

Also finished The Demon Apostle to finish up Salvatore's first Demon Wars trilogy. I was pretty sucked into it so decided to just read the rest of the saga. Reading Mortalis now., it's the bridge book between the two trilogies and it's dragging a bit so far, but starting to pick up.

Bathroom reading is a WVU football book--Don Nehlen's Tales for the WV Sidelines. Bought it for my dad for x-mas and borrowed it after he finished it.

I'm reading that as well. About halfway through it now. It's pretty good so far.

I Recently read all the Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay. Big fan of the show so I figured i'd read the books.

Just got done reading about a week ago "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown. It was meh but still a decent read.

Finished Business Stripped Bare by Sir Richard Branson a few days ago. Book was alright. It definitely made me think more about how a business should be run and how businesses need to constantly push the envelope and better the experience for their customers.

Started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I am not too far into the book ~90pages. It will be awesome seeing Natalie Portman as Elizabeth Bennett. Eliza roundhouse kicks a zombie. Zombies head explodes and the body drops.

Just finished Against a Dark Background by Iain Banks. Good. Not hard (explain everything as if you had a physics degree) sci-fi. More of sort of a military-buddy action adventure romp. (IN SPACE!!). Lots of confusing past/present flashbacks mid chapters and a downer ending though.

Almost finished with When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris. Looking for something with a similar light tone to follow it up.

About 150 pages in to The Gathering Storm.
Wasn't sure what to expect with Sanderson finishing the series, but so far he's done ok.

Finished Crossroads of Twilight and read Knife of Dreams, andThe Gathering Storm from the Wheel of Time series. I also read Storm Front, Fool Moon, and Grave Danger by Jim Butcher, Empire by Orson Scott Card, and Storm from the Shadows by David Weber.
I am currently reading Torch of Freedom by David Weber and Eric Flint.
The Rum Diary - Hunter S sounds nice, id definitely give it a read sometime later on!
Great book. Hells Angels and Fear and Loathing are both awesome as well.

Went to the local mall today - actually, it's in the nearest town to me - and found both of the bookstores (B. Daltons and Waldens) closing. So thanks to some of the posts here, I decided to snag American Gods (unfortunately, Sandman and it's ilk aside, Stardust was the only Gaiman book I've read), Cryptonomicon, A Game of Thrones, and Ender's Game (because I haven't read that damn thing in 15 years and have no idea where my copy is) for 60% off. I had A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords in my hand, but decided not to in case I find I'm one of the few that dislike the Fire and Ice story. Unfortunately, there wasn't much left except for Romance novels (like half of all books left, I shit you not), Self-Help, and Money & Finances.

I'd say you'll know whether you like it or not 50-100 pages in. It's consistent throughout the entire series, just takes about 1/4th of the first book to wrap your head around its specific fantasy elements. Like how most "magic" is low key, it's not like LotR with magic swords and orcs. It's more akin to a dark Camelot tale than traditional fantasy.

my course book .. that is titled game ethnography. extremely boring. every page, para, word sucks!!! .. i thought the course had to do something with games.. i wish i had googled the word ethnography! ! YUCK

Eh it's all right so far, I don't want to spoil anything but I'll say it's has an unusual plot so far. I'm only on the 2nd chapter. Though I predict it may get better.

Bump this thread up.

In the past week read:
"Pirate Latitudes" by Michael Crichton - Meh, it was a decent read and kept me interested. Kinda reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean if it wasn't made by Disney
"The Man Who Loved Books Too Much" by Allison Hoover Bartlett - A true story about a guy that stole rare books because he loved books. Pretty interesting and apparently stolen books is a pretty big problem.

Currently re-reading "Stranger Than Fiction" by Chuck Palahniuk. Set up a trade to receive Invisible Monsters leaving just 2 books left to finish my Palahniuk hardcover collection. I'm thinking I might go after alternative/foreign covers after that.

Next on my list might be "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". I keep picking it up but I'm not sure how much I really want to read it.

"Fer-de-Lance" by Rex Stout, the first of the Nero Wolfe novels. It's a good mystery so far, in that I want to find out who committed the murder, but on the other hand, it's been rather dull. Just chapter after chapter of interviewing suspects. Not atypical for mysteries, but it would be nice if something would happen.

Finished Mortalis, the bridge book between the 2 Demon Wars trilogies by R.A. Salvatore. It was a bit dull but still ok. I'm most of the way through the first book of the second trilogy, Ascendence. It started off slow, but has picked up.

I'm skeptical this trilogy will be as good as the first though. Too much focus on politics in the King's court and in the church.

Also reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.

i have quite a few books on the table right now that im dabbling in between.

Currently Reading:

One Last Shot- by Mitchell Krugel, its about Michael Jordans 3rd comeback in 2001 and why he did it when everyone said he should have stayed retired.

U2 At the end of the World- by Bill Flanagan, a really great read about what its like to be in the biggest rock group at the time with the biggest concert at the time which was Zoo TV. i love it.

Why We Suck- by Denis Leary, its pretty funny, basically a written form of Denis Leary standup routine. he makes good points about why so many other countries hate America and just things that drive him crazy, he rambles on a bit to much at times but if you like Denis leary's stand up and his humor you should read it.

Recently Finished:

T.O.-by Terrell Owens and Jason Rosenhaus, i enjoyed it, TO gives his side of the whole Eagles meltdown that happened in 05-06. it was good to see his side instead of how the media wanted to play it out.

Up Next:

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
A Lions Tale by Chris Jericho
Next Man Up by John Feinstein

I'm currently reading Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann which happens to be one of the most grossly overrated books of last year.(Amazon named it Book of the Year)... I mean, I am enjoying it but it's flawed in so many ways... :bomb:

Read the first four Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher, the first Mass Effect book by Drew Karpyshyn, and Starfleet: Flashpoint and Strafleet: Firestorm by Dan Cragg and David Sherman. All were good, quick reads, I think i finished four of them in two days.

Reading Atlas Shrugged now by Ayn Rand. I enjoyed The Fountainhead but didn't love it, obviously slow paced and drawn out. My friends claimed that Atlast Shrugged was much better and so far I agree. It seems to move at a quicker pace, but I'm only about 100 pages in so we'll see if it can keep up the momentum.

Waiting for my wife to finish reading Andre Agassi's Open, so that I can start it.

I got her Artie Lang's Too Fat to Fish, so I should start that one while I'm waiting.

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

I enjoyed that one. I'll have to get some of his other books.

Naked Lunch (the movie) was possibly the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life.

I've got bad news for you my friend. It's a good book but its an arduous journey to the end. It gets very slow in a lot of parts and Rand tends to be overly verbose.

im reading Before They Are Hanged the second book in the the first law trilogy by joe abercrombie. so far its its a pretty good fantasy story. its a little different and from your typical fantasy, has some raw characters.
