What do Gamers really want in give aways?

I'm with the ideas of not mailing anything off. Gamers love to win and be rewarded fast. Codes are the way to go: PSN points, Wii/DS points, 360 points, XBox Live time, World of Warcraft time (for those that play Wow), Beta codes (for example: Uncharted 2 for a PS3 contest), even cheesy stuff like outfits (Halo armor in Fable 2 for those that don't have CE, LBP outfits, etc). Gamers will compete to get anything- even if they don't own that platform or game (some will just sell or pawn it off on a buddy)...they just feel good winning. That's why we all are gamers, right?

Right…I’ve gathered all comments and responses together and here are the results. The key feedback is gamers want to win and be rewarded fast so am not surprised that Points tops the list.

i have to disagree with the instant gratification thing. i think gamers don't mind getting stuff in the mail. Sure if you're talking Wii/PSN/XBL points no one minds getting them through e-mail, but more if it's a choice between some points and something more substantial like say 3000 Wii points vs controler cost aside i think the controler would be more appreciated.

I personally don't like Beta codes. in gmail has kinda ruined the idea of a beta. a beta is supposed to be a form of testing hotbed. now they're being treated like demos which is .. not good. I'm 80% sure this is the reason that demos are being treated like accessories (free with purchase , or win access to it with pre-order) ugh.

that aside while i disagree with the fundamentla theory behind it i agree that codes are apprecaited.
