Wow, I've been busy as heck, I didnt even notice that EGM stopped publishing in Jan. 09. ANy idea of what they are doing for refunds on remaining subscriptions?

Sorry, I couldnt find any info this. Wow, what a sad day. I had been subscribing to it since it reviewed Sega 8 Bit titles and NES games. its a sad day.

UGO bought 1-up.com, didn't want EGM, so Ziff-Davis shut down EGM. All part of the slow death of print media.

Its sad. wow, gameinformer and Official Xbox magazine better not die. That is all I have left.

to be specific, it was UGO's parent company, Hearst Media, who didn't want EGM. i doubt UGO had much say in it.

One thing that still hasn't been talked about yet is what will happen with all the remaining subscriptions. Right after it was announced, they told subscribers that they would find something out soon. It's now 4 months and still nothing about it.

You mean for the 4 people who actually paid for EGM?

I called it the apocalypse. Others just said they were bought and shut down. I like my explanation better. Now go read Game Informer, it's all we got left.

Can we ask for refunds on our paid subscriptions?

I should call them soon.
They got bought out and killed instantly.
Actually, the reverse is true. EGM wasn't bought, which is why it died.

I normally care about stuff like this but since the last 3 years of my EGM subscription have been free (thanks to CAG) I'm good. I hope those of you that actually paid get some compensation back.

@OP - Ah, I see your parents haven't sat you down and had the talk with you yet. My parents said EGM wasn't dead that it was just given to a big farm (the same ones that took PSM and GFW).

Now I know they lied to me... I hate them.
How much would it cost to buy EGM and revive it?
too much to be profitable?

well ... who is the company that bought the parent to EGM?

Can't remember, but they should have other printable media....

I know when I got off of GFW, my mag was transfered to another place.

From what I gather, it's already to late to get them to keep going since the staff was mostly laid off and everyone had to clear their things out from the place.

Not according to the Mega 64 video. The person buying the maga... er, dog killed it as soon as it was bought.

Unless Mega 64 lies.

Well Mega 64 lies, since they have to blame somebody. What they needed to do was have the guy buy the collar and than the dog owners kills the dog since he doesn't want to keep buying dog food and cleaning up after it. Since that is how it really went down, blame Ziff-Davis not Hearst.
More importantly, what the hell happened to the supposed last issue that was going to be available for free online?
Also wondering about this. Haven't heard anything since mid-January.

Its sad.

I had subscriptions to everyting, and all these have gone down in flames

EGM
GMR
PSM
any some more if I remember,

What is left
Official Playstatin
Official Xbox-sucks, but I like the DVD
Nintendo Power-
game Informer-actually the best
Gamepro-To Poop on
what else?

I like the online websites for reviews, but I cant take a dump while I read with those. Now I feel sad that my wife made me throw away my HUGE collection of GMR, PSM, EGM, and a bunch of other magazines, but at least she didnt find my porn collection. Sad thing....I would give up the porn for reviews of 16 bit classics and multiple girl porn for multiple person EGM Reviews.

PSM was pretty awesome. I pulled out an issue from my collection to read on the can the other day (Dino Crisis 2!). You don't see magazine editors like Bill Donahue anymore!

I was also a fan of OPM up until they kicked the bucket. But yeah, they don't exist anymore.

I have not touched any games magazine since EGM died. sure it was a pretty bad mag the last year or so but god dammit it was my first multiplatform magazine I read (Nintendo Power was my favorite when I was a kiddo) and I really liked some of the personalities.

I didn't even have a PlayStation back at that time (my parents could only afford an N64 back during that generation), yet I still bought the magazines.

PSM was pretty damn awesome to go through. The articles, previews and reviews were great and the artwork was pretty damn sweet.

You should try Play Magazine. Not the best on reviews (don't agree with them and they don't do scores anymore,) but they cover lots of stuff, have good features, and print on a very high quality, thick paper; much nicer than Game Informer or OXM.

The Girls of Gaming issues are also very nice. :)
