What is one of your favorite Game Endings of all Time?

i loved the ending to kingdom hearts 2, just left a nice warm feeling (im not gonna both doing that spoiler thing since im sure alot of people here have played it and beaten it :)! ) plus the final battle was freaking EPIC!!

the ending to shadow hearts 1 brought a tear to my eye (the normal ending)

the ending to shadow hearts : covenant was freaking AMAZING!!, another great final battle (even the dialogue before it)
HELL yes... snatcher has a GREAT ending. generous in length and just freaking cool. doesn't pander.
Exactly. Whenever I beat a game, I always measured it up to the sweetness factor of Snatchers ending. I mean, it ties everything up realy nice. Granted it does leave a very slight hint at a sequel, but that is totaly forgivable in my eyes.

I'm still pissed that it never got ported to the PSX or Saturn over here. I still remember reading the rumor mill sections of a few mags back in the day about the possibility of it hitting stateside...
Final Fantasy 10

I really liked that it ended with Tidus and Auron just disapearing and yet they seem happy knowing that even though they are destined to die the world is save. This of course was ruined in the International ending and FFX-2
Forgot about this one! Yeah I agree regarding the sequel/International version.
My favorite ending is the ending for Fallout. I felt it to be very appropriate and not one those cliched endings.
Great one.

Beyond Good & Evil - Nothing like a cliff hanger to end a game properly. Huh? The cliff hanger will never be answered? Well, that's a disapointment...

There's a right answer to this question and this answer is Bad Dudes. After being a bad enough dude to rescue the president you're greeted by this scene (SPOILERS):

bdvsdd9.gif

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will always be one of my favorites.

Spoilers of course.

Snatcher is awesome too, but I can't find a vid of that online.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Yeah, I said it.

Wind Waker.

Not because of the ending itself. That ending was quite generic. However, I was on such a high after the final boss battle that I didn't care. After all of that dicking around with giant enemies with glaringly obvious weaknesses, the final fight was beautiful in its simplicity. Just you, Zelda, and the King of the Gerudo on a small platform with the entire ocean crashing down around you. None of that running around giant beasts with slow-moving attacks waiting for an opening. Just a simple, beautiful battle between two swordsmen.

And some girl who is apparently a good shot with the bow.

I also enjoyied the ending, for the imagery, but also the 8 hours straight I played to beat it. Did I mention that these hours were 12am to 8am? I was absolutely exhuasted after that.

Sooo many endings to choose from, but some of my favs include:

Metal Gear Solid -- Either one of the two endings were pretty emotional for the time.

Resident Evil 3 -- As a huge RE nut since I was eleven, I was shocked to learn
that Racoon City gets nuked in the end.

Final Fantasy VII -- Screw all the haters and FFVI fanboys that won't give a good game it's due, FF7 was one hell of an RPG, and it's ending was so ambigous you couldn't help but speculate for months on end as to what the hell happened.

Wild Arms -- The ending itself was pretty good, but i'll always remember the song that plays during the end credits.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles --
For Sonic, you had to revisit the Death Egg, fight not 1, but 4 boss battles, one of which is chasing down Eggman as the Death Egg is falling apart. As for knuckles, throwing down against HYPER Metal Sonic was just too cool for words.

Indigo Prophecy -- Gets an honorable mention as being one of the wierdest trio of endings I've ever seen.

God of War 2

Zues: "The sisters have aided you" Kratos: "The Sisters are DEAD!" and then starting a war between the Titans and the Gods. AWESOME.

the most mind bending thing I've ever experienced, and the one that really made me solidify some personal thoughts of media and art... too good... took me 2 months to fully understand the ending: Killer 7

Many good picks so far ... but I'll add Final Fantasy Tactics -- possibly the darkest ending I've come across in a game, yet.

Xenogears by a long shot.

One thing interesting about the ending was:
Fei, Elly, and Krelian all nude.

Xenosaga Episode III comes very close though. Star Ocean: Till The End of Time was also really great.

Xenosaga Episode I I thought had a pretty average ending when I first watched it. Only later did I really get swept up in the music/camerawork etc. Xenogears is up there too. That and the D ending of Shadow of Memories. But mainly because it's the only one with a plot twist in it.

I forgot about that Sonic & Knuckles ending that was good.
I also agree about RE3 Awesome.
MGS3
FF8
Halo Legendary ending Too Funny.
Dead Rising
GTA 3
FF7

I was extremely satisfied with the endings for

Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
most of Chrono Trigger
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Lufia and the Fortress of Doom
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
Valkyrie Profile
Earthbound.

Nothing has come even CLOSE to matching up. It's ridiculous how perfect the ending is. Walking around and being able to see and talk everyone you met throughout the game? And this is after a truly epic sequence of ever-spiraling madness toward the final battle.

And then...it's just over. So beautifully poignant to the absolute last drop.

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 are honorable mentions. CT because of the amount of endings, and all of them being worthwhile in their own special way. FF6 because I've never seen a game where you get to see a massive number of characters retreat from their last epic battle, having to climb down a trashed fortress so they can finally rest their weary bones.
QFT.. well said Strell.

Those lobsters in your pants must give you magical brain powers.

Thank ye gods!

After having participated in this thread and seeing no one else mention Earthbound, it's recent resurrection was making me brood in a way best reserved for Dr. Jekyll, waiting to unleash the demons within in a bloody torrent of omfg, u guys r teh sux. Crisis has been averted. For now.

The lobsters have no limitation and enhance all of my attributes and innate abilities. They also give me a 30 point mana burn over 3 seconds and the ability to magnetize women's panties to the glowing amulet worn around my neck.

If only they would bring Mother 3 to the US/EU...

Edit:

I really hope it turns out to be true!

I'm going to go with the Silent Hill crowd, but the first Silent Hill is the game with the best endings IMO.
The fact that for the bad ending you realize it was all a dream, you were passed out in the car, and the game has built a story mechanism wherein it's reasonable that you can replay the game to save Alessa because you haven't really died. And then there's how the opening scenes change depending on the endings you have unlocked, adding to the supernatural, shifting, dreamlike tone of the entire Silent Hill experience.

Silent Hill 2 endings were good as well, my favorite ending was when
James boats over to a creepy island to wake his wife with the power of the old gods.

SH3 endings sucked and SH4 endings were meh.

Shadow of the Colossus
MGS3

Those two are the best endings I have ever seen in a game. One of the main reasons I still have both as well. Reason why I love SOTC is nothing is spelled out for you at the end of the game. You have to put the pieces together of the puzzle to figure out what happened. If you are able to do this it is truly truly amazing, especially if you played Ico right after. MGS3 this game needs no explanation as to why it's also one of the best endings of all time. Both of those games got a 10 from me and that my friend is something I don't hand out every day for games.

For me:

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence - It's great to see the events that kicked off one of the best gaming franchises ever

Metal Gear Solid 3 - This was easily the most satisfying ending to any game I've ever played.

Final Fantasy I - The fact that they managed to evoke so much emotion out of an 8-bit game makes this one of m favorite endings.

Battletoads - Just the fact that I even beat this great but hard-ass fucking game made seeing the ending credits all worth it

Phoenix Wright: Justice For All -
Your client is guilty of murder, and you have to make the tough decision to let Maya die or let a guilty man go free, but then the miracle happenes and you manage to save Mia AND have the option of letting your client go to jail and be safe, or set free and live in fear of being assassinated. In the end, the moral of the story is it doesn't matter if you win or lose the case, just as long as you discover the truth

Shadow of the Colossus - The perfect ending to such an epic game. Such great storytelling.

I think all my favorites have already been listed, but what the hell...

Phoenix Wright: Justice For All
Chrono Trigger
LoZ:WW
Super Mario RPG:
The way you find out how everyone's lives have changed after Mario fixed everything was pretty nice, plus the song they played is one of my all-time favorites.
Kingdom Hearts: CoM:
Watching Riku give DiZ a smartass answer to his question ("Will you choose the Light, or the Darkness?" "Neither, I'll choose the twilight.") made me holler/hoot.
FF8:
While not "fantastic," it sticks out in my mind because of Squall smiling at the end. Creeps me the fuck out everytime.
LoZ: Majora's Mask:
After working my ass off to get the Couple's Mask, it felt good completing the entire notebook and watching the camera zoom into the Skull Kid's crappy sketch of him and Link.
Shadow of the Colossus: Great ending to a great game. An understatement, I know, but still.
Paper Mario: TTYD:
The final battle seemed pretty epic, even with the cliche cheering on from everyone. Still, it's a great ending when it's all said and done.

twisted metal black def gets props, i wouldn't have played through all the characters, but i really wanted to see all the endings.

Ending of Shadow of the Colossus, definitely. As well as FEAR.

Only because those are the only 2 games I've actually finished within the last 2 years, heh.

Allright allright, I picked up a used copy of Earthbound, sans "crazy huge" box. I must admit... the first twenty minutes seem pretty interesting.

I've just heard too much about this weird game (and have ZERO experience or memory of it during the halcyon days of SNES). I guess my sub to Nintendo Power ran out around then.
Ninja Gaiden for NES (It took me 5 years to beat the game as a kid)
Final Fantasy VI (Damn that was a long ending)
Im about half way through FF VI.. it IS damn long. I've never beat it - but the cutscenes are pretty cool (emotive) and everyone seems to be putting it on the revered list so I'm feeling a little more motivated to finish. I got a little sidetracked with some DS hits and now I can't remember what I am supposed to do. Just hit the first town after the massive "event" happens that changes the world.

So, now I've got this, and Earthbound to wrap my mits around. Gotta say, feels good to hold that old controller again.
Yes. Yes.

Play it, Coltington. Play it and love it.

And if you don't, send it to me.
You.. you mean with your huge hard on for Earthbound you don't OWN it?

... Dag yo...

I remember the end of KARATEKA, when I made the mistake of running toward the princess to rescue her.... if you have not played it, it is quite the WTF moment, but I remember thinking that it was all my fault.
