What kind of Next-gen console do you want?

I voted Games ONLY...because my xbox plays cd's and DVD's and I have a DVD/CD player...If the console doesnt have that it will be that much cheaper...Like the GC...

that i do agreen on...cheaper is better...but not to the point that you start stripping stuff out of they system..example ps2 with 2 controller ports..etc

i also like the idea of a system being able to do it all though
 
I mean...if the discs are already on DVD's then by all means have a dvd player...just dont make me pay extra for the feature...Nintendo makes money with four ports and I see no reason to have less (if not more than four)...Sony really is cheaping out in that aspect and in others but that isnt what this topic is for...Nintendo made a solid and affordable console that MANY people love w/o having the option of DVD...so I see no need for it
 
i want a pc/ gaming console hybrid...but not tooo expensive...under 700 bucks is good...if the xbox next is gonna be a pc/game console hybrid, im prolly gonna pick it up (heard it was gonna be 599 bucks) b/c i have yet to see the greatness of pc gaming :(
 
IMO the gamecube is like the nicest/smallest system....if they could have put a dvd drive instead of that mini dvd optical drive it would of sold alot better...i like to take my cube with me and sometimes im forced to leave it behind because i also want to have a dvd player with me...

if the gc had the dvd drive, it would be too similar to the other consoles :roll: b/c it'll actually be good, lol j/k :lol:

Seriously though, even though I plan on getting every system (except Xbox 2) I want my systems to have everything the first time around. Built in everything so I don't have to go out and buy it later.

then that wold add a lot to the cost. I know you see it as all being the same in the end, but most people wont.
 
I think next time around, I'll only want one that plays strictly games. I think the PS2 wouldn't have had so many problems if it didn't play DVDs. Plus when the next ones come out, I'll still have my PS2 and can play DVDs on that. Plus it'll be a little cheaper. I would prefer games only, but I doubt Sony will scrap the DVD function.
 
Just games, I could care less for dvd playback, dvd players are cheap these days anyways. I don't want any extra gimmicks that don't specifically enhance games. I also don't want consoles to become a pc hybrid, but maybe thats just me.
 
Xbox spoiled me with custom Soundtracks. I love that feature so much. If Xbox 2 doesn't have that feature I swear I may not buy it.
 
yea the hd was very important to xbox success....soundtracks and downloads etc are great..and i want to see it get even better....
 
Definitely games only. I don't need to pay for multiple DVD players and the other functions they add that I have no real interest in using.
 
I want to play games. I have a DVD player. Coincidentally, I also have a computer. I don't need either in my next game console.

The only important thing to X Box' success was Halo. Consider where Microsoft would be without that necessary boost.
 
Games only! I couldn't care less if my game consoles play DVDs. That's what my DVD player is for. I'm sure it's a nice feature for some people, but I don't personally know anyone who watches DVDs on their PS2.

I'll agree that HDs are good, can't go wrong with a hard drive. 4 controller ports is also a plus.

Also, though I know I'm in a tiny tiny minority on this, I don't care if the systems are online. If I want to play games with my friends, I'll invite them over. I know, downloadable content is neat and all, but I don't think it's ever affected a game I play. (Strike that, there is that KOTOR download, but I'm not hurting because I don't have it.) I'm not totally against online gaming, though it may sound like I am. It just seems like in so many games reviews lately, good games have gotten bad scores for not having online play. I know online gaming will remain on the systems, so I guess I'll just play my single player games and silently rage... :)
 
I'm torn. I used to want the all-in-one solution like the PSX. It would give me a lot more room in my entertainment center for disc storage. But since I already have 4 DVD players (5 if you count the PS2), a Sony home theatre system, and a new PC, I don't really need anything except a box that plays games. Maybe in another 10 years when I want to replace everything would I think about an 'everything box'. But THAT box must have digital VCR functions, and DVD-R burning. Something they've taken out of the PSX because of cost.

I also like to take a system with me on vacation and to family gatherings so I wouldn't want to schlep an $800 box with me with the chance of it breaking.

Did you know Williams-Sonoma sells a toaster that costs $279? It's hand-made in England or some shit like that.

I got a PS2 at launch and an Xbox this past Xmas. I have to say I have been spoiled by the hard drive, and I think the next round of consoles had all better have them. I want DVD functionality in it just to save on the number of things I have to hook up. Outside of that, I think you are sacrifices too much price for not enough use (e.g. if the Xbox 2 was also a Tivo it would on paper be cool, but it would probably add too much to the cost of the unit and not enough people would use it).

Games only. I have a standalone dvd player that is infinitely better than any built in dvd player that the ps2/xbox has. Plus, by the time next gen consoles come out, HD DVD will be out by then.
