Ugh to the person bashing on "Secret Of Evermore". It just has this classic fable feeling I like like I've heard this story somewhere before though I suppose you could argue Alice there.[/quote]
I would just argue thin plot, minimal characterization, way too easy, and vastly inferior to Secret of Mana in every way. I
wanted to like it. I had even played it at E3 before it was released. But the game felt like a total slog, up until the end. When you spend the whole time going "It's got to get better. There's got to be something hidden, or worth the time, or some greatness to uncover, or something." And then it ends, and not only do you feel like you wasted your money, but all the time you poured into it, too.
One of the things about this thread: the games themselves are not necessarily the worst game ever (or Superman 64 would have ended the thread). Secret of Evermore is at least playable. If you liked it, I'm happy for you.
Most of the games that are getting people to relive some of their darker moments are games that didn't live up to the hype, or were sequels or follow-ons to games or companies that were really special. They were massive letdowns. In many cases, we knew, or at least suspected, that the games weren't going to be as good, but we believed anyway. And that makes the disappointment so much worse.
And to the person against Eternal Darkness, do you hate Lovecraft and like Poe? Because if you do I can only IMAGINE your taste in Horror movies.
Well, I'm with you there. I quite enjoyed Eternal Darkness.
