What was the WORST game you ever paid the MOST money for?
State of Emergency. $50. Thanks Rockstar.
I even bought the strategy guide, too!

I guess it would $58 i spent on Magna Carta ( i hated the battle system). I sold it the next week for roughly the same amount tho.

Actually, while not technically a game, I have a terrible waste of money: I bought a Gameshark 2 back in the day for $50. Yeah. I had heard that it could be used to play imports so I bought it and I've never regretted any game related purchase more than that.

Ahh... the notoriously known game where you had to pick up trash every other level. God damn, I hated that game. Good thing I rented it first though, if I didn't that would've been my 50$ down the drain.

FFVIII is the freaking best game ever
THANK YOU. Contrary to many, it's actually my favorite FF by a mile.
yeah, but at least Dark Cloud and Red Faction were decent. SOE was just pure crap.
Actually, I thought State of Emergency was a good game in an "old-school arcade" way, though I woulden't pay $50 for it.

It was cool for the first hour or so. But after that, you realize that there's really nothing to do other than kill assorted people.

Did you try the multiplayer in the Xbox version? It gave it some legs.
Breath of Fire 3. $40 Bored the HELL out of me from the get-go. I've tried many times over the years to get somewhere in it, but gawd.... so... very... vanilla.

Final Fantasy VIII. $50 I liked it okay when it came out, but gawd has it aged badly. Never finished it when it came out cuz I got stuck due to deleting all but the one save I SHOULD have deleted. Meh worst of the series.
Wasn't it $40 when it came out? Don't remember

This thread is fucking funny as all hell.

The worst game for me is a toss up between Magic Carpet at full price and Fox Hunt also for full price for the PS.

Turok: Evolution (Xbox)
Dead to Rights (Xbox) Not saying it's a sucky game, but definately not worth $50
RE: Outbreak (Not saying it's bad, but the price dropped extremely fast for this game)
WWE: Wrestlemania X8 (GCN)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (Xbox)
Enter The Matrix (PS2)
007: Agent Under Fire (Xbox)

Bought all for $50 each

AND

50 Cent: Bulletproof for $10 at CC. I really want my $10 back.
Paid 50$ for a Xena Warrior Princess fighting game on the N64. Hated the game to the max.
 The fact that you bought a Xena game surprises me

Did anybody buy Kabuki Warriors for $50? If so, wow...
Did you try the multiplayer in the Xbox version? It gave it some legs.
Nope, I had the PS2 version. After buying that one for $50, there's no way I could justify wasting more money on it for multiplayer.

I'll add this one, too. Granted, I was... 14 (?), and spent $20 I made from mowing my uncle's lawn.

The Bouncer. Thankfully, EB took games back with the excuse of "did not like" back then. It even says that on my receipt, but for a Splinter Cell game.
Knowingly...as in you knew it was bad but paid retail for it anyway. I'm beginning to feel that way about Metal Saga.
Well, I hadn't even known about this game, but I did sort of pay retail for it technically. Stake: Fortune Fighters on clearane at CC for $5. Absolute worst piece of garbage game I have ever bought. At least it was only $5 as I can't even trade it in and nobody wants it on Ebay. My god is that a terrible game.:bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:

My runner up is Secret of Evermore for N64. What a turd. It's runner up because it was a gift. I had received two of them for my birthday. Too bad I didn't take them both back, but I didn't believe Square could produce something so pointless and boring. Japan got Seiken Densetsu III. We got this crap.

Hands down winner for me: King's Quest VIII: Mask of Eternity. This game made me loathe Roberta Williams, since her picture and signature plastered on the box and the hype (i.e. complete lies) she personally spread about it could only be seen as a betrayal of anything and everything good about the King's Quest series. This "game" is the reason why there's never been another King's Quest. It's bad enough that it's a boring, glitchy, sub-par Quake-wannabe, but it will forever be at the top of my most-hated list for single-handedly assassinating a beloved series and handing the longtime fans a great big middle finger.

I paid full price for Pokemon Snap and loved it. I loved trying to get better pictures of the little critters and there always seemed to be something new that I didnt catch the first time around. Even my parents played the game so it was well worth the 60 bucks.

Same with FFVIII, I thought it was fun and liked most of the characters. Gave up around the halfway mark to play another game though but remember it fondly.

Yoshi's Island for the N64 when I was in middle school. $59.99!!!

My friend told me it was the shits and I bought later on when I went to the mall. And he also bought it (and loved it) so he was not fucking around when he told me.

My entry would be Jurassic Park: Trespasser (PC) for full price at launch... Even the ability to stare at cleavage to check your health didn't make it worth the full price.
The Bouncer. Thankfully, EB took games back with the excuse of "did not like" back then. It even says that on my receipt, but for a Splinter Cell game.
Definitely with you on "The Bouncer" except I said it was too short, same with Onimusha. Neither game was worth buying for $50 considering their length.
For me paying retail CTHD. Just fucking awful. The gameplay was solid but just dull. I had to FORCE myself to play through it. The amazing thing is that Genkei developed it, THAT'S what shocks me.
As for BoF3 I don't hate the game but just remember renting it and what a pain in the ass it was for levels. Hopefully with this one on the PSP I'll get it done more and finish the game.
Ugh to the person bashing on "Secret Of Evermore". It just has this classic fable feeling I like like I've heard this story somewhere before though I suppose you could argue Alice there.
And to the person against Eternal Darkness, do you hate Lovecraft and like Poe? Because if you do I can only IMAGINE your taste in Horror movies.

Azurik Rise of Perathia - 50 dollars, most of which was from trade-ins of games which I payed hard earned cash for making the total amount paid for Azurik well over 50 bucks.

how could someone hat eternal darkness?? that game is incredible!

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. I didn't enjoy them. I still have yet to beat Sonic Heroes. I can never find the interest to play it.

Hmm love this topic.

Most recent worst purchases were

Wrestlemania 21 for The XBox. What a pile of crap, and the ONLINE didn't even WORK! Well atleast for a few painful weeks, or was it a month? The game was broken as hell and probably my worst purchase in recent memories. I paid my whole $50.

I can also vouche for Pirates for the XBox. I heard it was Morrowind but with Pirates and was all over it. Unfortunately the game was so buggy that my game crashed twice in the opening ship scene, and I felt the game just sucked on a whole. Here I was excited when It was posted on CAG for $19.99 through EBgames, guess I should have more into it. Boo.

You would think from past history I wouldn't have bought Wrestlemania 21 for the XBox, because I did purchase Raw 2... also at full price! The game wasn't as bad as everyone stated, but not worth more then $20.

Those are my worst purchases as of recent. If theres anything I disliked of the OG XBox was that it had no good wrestling games. I guess that will change with the new TNA game and because Smackdown is now multiplatform.
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness- I bought it for $49.99 when it came out before any reviews (so technically I didn't know it was bad)- boy how I regretted it. Especially when two years later it was $7.50 brand new at TRU.

This is why I'm waiting for the new Tomb Raider to drop before I buy.
true! I can't believe I bought this game, it sucks! the new one is the bomb though

There's some good stuff in this thread, but then there's some outright fucking heresy.

Another one I thought of was Legend of Mana during Square's "Summer if Adventure" thing. Threads of fate, Chrono Cross, and Legend of Mana? "Summer of Shit," my friends.

I bought state of emergeny the day it came out beacuse Grand Theft Auto was so good omg how I was wrong when I just found out what I just spent 50 on :(
Ugh to the person bashing on "Secret Of Evermore". It just has this classic fable feeling I like like I've heard this story somewhere before though I suppose you could argue Alice there.
I would just argue thin plot, minimal characterization, way too easy, and vastly inferior to Secret of Mana in every way. I wanted to like it. I had even played it at E3 before it was released. But the game felt like a total slog, up until the end. When you spend the whole time going "It's got to get better. There's got to be something hidden, or worth the time, or some greatness to uncover, or something." And then it ends, and not only do you feel like you wasted your money, but all the time you poured into it, too.

One of the things about this thread: the games themselves are not necessarily the worst game ever (or Superman 64 would have ended the thread). Secret of Evermore is at least playable. If you liked it, I'm happy for you.

Most of the games that are getting people to relive some of their darker moments are games that didn't live up to the hype, or were sequels or follow-ons to games or companies that were really special. They were massive letdowns. In many cases, we knew, or at least suspected, that the games weren't going to be as good, but we believed anyway. And that makes the disappointment so much worse.

And to the person against Eternal Darkness, do you hate Lovecraft and like Poe? Because if you do I can only IMAGINE your taste in Horror movies.

Well, I'm with you there. I quite enjoyed Eternal Darkness.

Two way tie...

Alien Trilogy for the Sega Saturn (where all 30 "different" levels looked pretty much the same): $50

NHL '96 for the SNES (where you could shoot the puck into the board and it would magically transport into the back of the net for a goal): $50

...and FF VIII was no FF VII... but if FF VIII is the WORST game you've ever purchased, then you've had an excellent gaming experience in your lifetime

Smackdown: Just Bring It

Let's just say I wanted to return the game the same day I got it. But since it was opened they offered to give me way less the amount that I bought it for.

I paid full price for Enter the Matrix.

I'm the type of person that likes to hold on to games. I've sold less then half a dozen of the games I've owned, but EtM was one of them.
I paid full price for Enter the Matrix.

Well I haven't sold it because I do like the combat but I'll agree it was NOT up to par. Let's be honest and say that EtM was just Matrix Reloaded with 2 non-Neo characters wedged in. I mean the idiots didn't even try to make Ghost's and Niobe's quests separate for the most part.
One game I am SO glad I rented when I was thinking about buying it is DBZ UB22. Basically flaws are abound. 2D graphics look shitty. They basically look like you just took comic book drawing and slapped them onto a background, attacks are delayed by 2 seconds or slightly less after you hit the button and I think jumps were delayed too. What a coaster pos. All this game is worthy of doing is having you set a drink on it, hence coaster.

My worst purchase was also Enter the Matrix on launch day. What kind of a game has the last 5 levels where you run from Agents? Yeah, thats fun.

I don't remember how much I paid for it, but I bought Bouncers for Sega CD. I don't remember it well, but I remember hating it.

You could choose from a few different basketballs and bounce off of each other to make baskets. The cutscenes were terrible... I think.

I can't believe I wasted my Christmas money back in 96 on Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. Had to go to like 4 different stores before I found it. I think the worst offender was Super Wrestlemania and Pit Fighter for the Xmas that I got my SNES. I want the money back that my grandmother gave me that christmas...

I didn't pay full price for this game but I still felt like someone should have paid me to play it. I bought the xbox game Stake at CC's 5 dollar sale a couple years back and I felt like I was ripped off. Man did that game suck like none other.

Another one I can think of is Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown. I remember I bought this when it launched for the XBOX because I thought the original Defender of the Crown for the NES was the greatest game ever! Not only did this game suck, but I went back to play the original, and that was just awful too. Another childhood memory ruined by a crappy remake.

Pac man 2 or whatever it was called for genesis. Pac-Man walked around and you had to hint at the directon you wanted him to go in. God I hated that game.

The game that always comes to mind is some Tom and Jerry game for the GameGear. Bought it at TRU when i was about 9, and beat the freaking game on the drive home! Less than 45 minutes. I was pretty angry, since it cost $40 and that was a lot of money to me.

That and Superman 64 for $60 on launch day...

I hardly ever buy a game full price, so I guess I'm lucky in that respect. The worst game that I can think of that I bought for full price was the Sims 2. I played the Sims since pretty much it came out, and when I got the Sims 2, I enjoyed it for about 2 weeks, then realized I was playing the same exact game over and over again, and it wasn't even fun. Luckily, my girlfriend likes it so she gets good use out of it.

I didn't pay full price for it, but my parents did for an Xmas Present I'm sure: Shadows of the Empire. Which, by the way, had probably the sweetest opening level ever for game followed by hours of crap. I remember telling my parents I wanted to buy Mario Kart 64 right after we got the XBox, and my parents questioned why I wanted a new game so soon after... "Because i bet SotE in less than a day?" Oh the good ole days.
