Whaddya mean, "themes"?

Them's Xbox360 words hombre.

EDIT: Making a mountain out of a molehill, the PSP just got a firmware update that includes an *increase* in the number of PSN games playable on it. Praytell they actually give us a fucking PSX game or two tomorrow?
http://uk.playstation.com/home/news/articles/detail/item78695/

It seems to change the icons of the XMB and background to a certain theme.

What's this about an increase in playable PSN games on the PSP?

I think I got the answer to that as soon as I posted it. I received an email about the software update from Sony Japan that listed a bunch of PSX games that, evidently, did not work on the PSP before, but do now. That's probably the only thing the firmware does.

IOW, this is probably of no consequence to us, and I remain confident that we won't see a single fuckin' PSX game before late November.

Tomorrow we'll get the Tony Hawk Proving Ground demo. Call it a hunch.

And doubledown, no way man, we get just about all the demos. Only the JPN store has gotten like two or so that we didn't get.

UK doesn't even have Puzzle Fighter yet.

Okay, that makes more sense than what came to mind first.

Maybe uh...something like Mega Man 8 will come out. It is like...that game's anniversary or something this month, isn't it?
That's good news but it shouldn't be news at all, I wouldn't pay more than $10-15 for what is basically a demo.
It's much more than a demo.

It's GT5: Lite, and it's made to whet your appetite.

All the features and goods this "demo" is going to have are pretty nice.

All the features and goods this "demo" is going to have are pretty nice.
Pretty much. The thing is that GT Prologues/Concepts have come out before (near full price) and have always performed well. The difference is that NA has never gotten them before.

Although GT5 Prologue has 5 tracks, they have multiple paths (kind of like PGR series). Having 50 cars, 16 players online, etc. is still more than what content many racers have today. Those who want the full GT5 will have to wait until the end of 2008 or maybe as long as 2009, because it's not coming for a long time. But buying GT5 Prologue is a good idea because all the credits and stuff you earn in Prologue transfers over to GT5. It's still mostly a full game, but more of a GT lite.

Sony is just releasing it on blu-ray because there are many who don't have internet connection, no credit card, and there are still many who act like downloads don't exists (so if people see a retail version sitting on a shelf, that makes a PS3 more appealing to them). I seriously think it will be the top selling PS3 game this Holiday season, since the GT series is still very huge.

Anyone get 1.93 downloaded? Mine's stuck at 4% and I keep getting a disconnected from server message. I never downloaded 1.92 so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.

European store updated:

FIFA08 demo
Harry Potter Order of Phoenix demo
NBA Live 08 demo
Ninja Gaiden DLC
New Motorstorm vehicles ( rally car and school bus)
Locoroco ps3 trailer
HS sword anime&making of part 5/5.

Dunno - the move from 1.92 to 1.93 was quick and seamless for me.

Happened to me too (and other people if you look back at messages), just keep trying.
Supposedly poker is going on the NA store today. Anyone know what the sharing restrictions are? I am actually kind of pumped about it.

~S
I would share too.
I wonder what happened to SKATE...???? weird. PS3 owners need to play it badly.
I could be wrong, but this is what I'm thinking.

When Sony gets a demo/game, it goes through a testing/approval process before it's released to the store. If there are no bugs and the demo is fine, it goes up. If the demo/game has issues, it gets sent back to the publisher. They have to fix the issues and re-submit. Knowing EA, the demo probably has an issue.

That is pretty much right Mana,

I have not really dealt with demos, but for normal games, Sony always takes the longer than MS for approval. Often 3 weeks to get approved. Also, Sony NA, Sony Europe, Sony Japan, etc, all do their own QA, so it might be ready for different zones at different times. Most publishers have their own QA, and some studios do to, but console manufacturers still put everything through their own QA.

I suspect Sony's QA is part of what is holding back demos's, as well as devs using 360 as their lead sku.

~S
Yeah.

It really bothers me when people from Europe complain to the Official PS Blog, which is related to SCEA, about them getting very small PS Store updates. The truth is, SCEA has zero control over what SCEE puts on the European store. People wanted more demos on the PS Store (in NA), so we got them. Other than PS1 games (although they weren't mentioned anywhere near as much as demos), SCEA has been listening to us.

glad there's a pixeljunk racer demo :) The IGN review sucks, but it's hard to tell their frame of reference with PSN/XBL games.

Comment from GAF by an IGN contributor:

PixelJunk racers is a BLAST. I highly recommend it...as long as you have a HDTV (even the description warns that it's "made for HDTVs" as a warning).

I love this game so far...I'll youtube up some footage tonight.

Guess he wasn't the one that reviewed it heh.

The demo for PixelJunk Racers is pretty fun. I'm not sure I'm going to buy the full game, though - I have a feeling it would get a little repetitive. I'll see if my friends enjoy it, and maybe the multiplayer would push me to buy it.

More Pixel impressions.

Too bad no online play. I probably won't get it because of that.

Yeah, it pretty much kicks ass. Great case of such a simple concept working so well. It has, I believe, 32 different "modes" which can be played for trophies in a solo tourney (this is necessary to unlock more of the modes), in a single quick race, or in "party race" multiplayer mode.

Each mode is predicated on a very simple mechanic: L2/R2 to accelerate and left or right on the digital pad to change lanes (also, triangle to beep your horn
biggrin.gif
). There are tons of dummy cars on the track, a lot like the ones that used to be old F-Zero games, though who you interact with these cars is different for every mini-game.

It's not a perfect comparison, but it's something like a downsized, overhead 2D Burnout. There's an emphasis on high speed, destroying rivals, and "checking" other cars. Hell, there's one mode called "Death Race" where you zip around the track and run into some black-colored cars. Each one you hit becomes engulfed in blue flames. Essentially, if you run into any car twice (the ones with blue flames), it'll end your run.

Some of the gold trophies look like they're going to be kind of tough to get, too. It looks like it'll be fun to try and get top scores.

The graphics and sound are very clean, if a little simple. I do like the music a lot.

Like TTP said, it's kind of amazing how much they get out of a simple, little slotcar concept.

Damn. The Tony Hawk demo's huge, around 1.5 GB. I had to delete some stuff off of my hard drive to fit the demos and videos on there. I'll have to watch the videos I've got on there and free up some space for later.

Picked up Super Puzzle Fighter and I like that it's tiny in size.
I can't download crap... anywhere I can download the firmware? I'm still having errors.
I think there was a link to download it to your PC in either this thread or the firmware thread, which should work for you.
Damn, that is huge....
ya i have been downloading that for the past 4 hours i'm at 40%.
can these things take any longer to download? I thought they were working on faster downloads?
Yeh but they just started recently haha.
Sweet, DL day. Can't wait to try PixelJunk and Tony Hawk. Lots to DL tonight.
It'll be more like tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night to download everything. My Tony Hawk is still downloading!

Wow, I really liked the PJR demo!
Didn't know it would have neat challenges like that.

Oh, and if you were wondering about the SKATE demo:
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Glad you are enjoying the variety of content going up every week.

I have to confirm this, but contrary to popular reports, I believe that the Skate demo was just officially submitted to us for test last week. Its obvious that many of you want it, and we’ll do our best to get it up there as soon as we can. Hold tight.

From the PS Blog comments, from one of the execs.

I'm happy with the demos, now give us a PSX game or two! If you fuckers have time to put together a 3 minute Lair "don't listen to the bullshit reviews, here's some 'it plays awesome' propaganda for you" video, you can goddamn jolly well port an 11-year old game for $6 that takes no time at all to prepare.

hehe, I'd third more PS/PSX downloads, but I don't think it takes "no time at all" to prepare.

Actually, I have my eye on Destruction Derby--is it pretty much the same as the original? I wouldn't mind doing the remote thing once my slim PSP arrives.

PS1 games aren't remote play. You just copy the entire game onto your memory stick :)

I hope the Harry Potter game has exciting parts in the full game... because the demo sucked :/

It also isn't the best graphically - I don't care much about graphics, but it doesn't look smooth at all (maybe it's just me though) ;\

Whoo, y'all were right about Tony Hawk--that game is so huge and slow, I had to stop (I usually completely turn off the PS3 when I'm not using it, since it's possible to do so).

Also, Pixeljunk is not my type of game, although it's certainly an interesting effort. I might have said the game is too simple, but that's not it--wish I could articulate what it was that I didn't like, but for now I'll just say it's not for me.
