When does WalMart charge for preorders? Late to the Last Story party; best way to go?

So I'm late to the Last Story party. I've finally decided to order. Walmart still has it listed as a "pre order" and is still selling it with the art book. But because it's walmart, I believe there is a very high chance of a pre-order there becoming back-ordered for an extended period of time, and then just getting cancelled. Do they charge immediately when you pre-order, or do they wait until the item ships? I really don't want to go through the hassle of them holding my money for however long and me having to call customer service departments to have somebody tell me they've refunded it and it will show up in three business days, and then possible having to call back again, etc.

GameStop is still listing the game as a pre-order...but with no date. Amazon says "ships in 2-3 weeks". Did the game come out today or not? And does anybody know if any stores got copies other than pre-orders? Or is it basically online only?

EDIT: anddd sold out on walmart. why do i feel like somebody saw my post and bought it?

EDIT 2: So, now I ask, what's the best way to go? I really really don't want to deal with asking GS stores if they got any extras and having desperate-to-keep-their-job employees telling me i should have pre-ordered, but it seems to be my last hope of getting a copy unless they reprint it. I refuse to pay ebay prices. Am I basically out of luck (especially for an artbook)? I guess I could wait for a used copy, but this is one game in particular I'd like to not have stickers on. I know I should have pre-ordered, but I didn't think that a release date fiasco would happen. I hope that walmart/best buy/tru carries this in store.

I was looking on gamefaqs and everywhere and no one has seemed to have gotten their copy today. People are saying GameStop told them they won't have it till Thursday, and people who ordered on Amazon with 1 day shipping say they arent getting it until the 20th. J&R still has preorders up on on their site. My copy from Amazon hasn't shipped yet. I don't know what the story is.
 
seems nobody is offering the artbook anymore. i guess i'll have to check GS. anybody know how long they hold preorders before selling?

I heard the artbook is wrapped behind the game, I don't know if that's true or not. I know the CD is seperate though. I think GameStop holds them for 48 hours.

The Fenton GS has 3 or 4 copies on stock w/artbook. Tell them I sent you (say Jason if they don't know my online name) & they'll give you a soundtrack also.

Thank big time for the tip! I actually found a copy already w/soundtrack at the Morris GS. I do like the Fenton store though. I'll keep the place in mind in the future. Thanks again!
