Which Console(s) Will You Buy this Holiday Season? (To Play, NOT eBay!)

With one month until the launch of the PS3, and a little over that for the launch of the Wii I thought it would be interesting to see which console(s) CAGers are looking to buy - beit for themselves, family, or friends. This may make it easier to find out who we should look out for to add to the respective console's buddy list. :)

And also, include a rough budget if you so desire.

Vote ONLY for the consoles that are intended to be used for gaming, not eBaying.

Console: Wii
Budget: ~$450

Just Wii this holiday season. 360 maybe next holiday season.

Budget: most of my $800 in EB credit (of which $350 has already been used for preorders). Saving a couple hundred for the rest of the 06 DS lineup.

Howdy....(newbie here)

If I can get a PS3 without going through the following:
1)Camping out on hard cold concrete
2)Bundles with games I don't want
3)Camping out on the hard cold concrete

If I can just walk in and pick one up without the headache or aggravation,if not I might be inclined to pick up the Nintendo Wii.I have an Xbox360 if all else fails,
I'll be playing Gears Of War and Call of Duty 3 for the holidays and get the PS3 in
the Spring of 2007.

PS3 launch means=

Long Line
Short Supply

Hey Lauryn, welcome aboard. Just joined today, and in your first post you've already got a cool avatar, a little humor, and a smiley. Very nice.

As for the poll, I haven't decided yet what to do with my PS3 preorder. It could end up under our tree this year, but a mountain of bills has me leaning toward ebaying it. Well, if I do that, the console I'd be most likely to buy myself (to keep) with the profit would be a 360.

Been gaming on my 360 since last holiday. But now it will really be gaming because I'm getting a 19" Acer Widescreen Monitor and Phillips surround sound that supports Dolby Digital 5.1 F.E.A.R., Gears of War, Viva Pinata, and Splinter Cell here I come. BTW I'm only going 19" for my room which is very small and 17" looks decent sized.

Have my Wii preordered but I'm canceling that.

Wii and undetermined other system. I won't know until I see some more games come out, but Bioshock is looking sweet to me right now, and I have an itch to play Dead Rising. I don't know, yet.

Just the Wii. I have a 360 and I'm waiting till Spring to get the PS3. There's a lotta fucking good stuff coming out on the PS2, DS, and PC this Fall/Winter, so even in the absence of these next gen systems, I doubt I'd have any problem finding something to play.

I'm picking up a 360 for sure, but I am still not sure about the Wii. It's funny, the Wii is my most anticipated system, I really enjoyed it at E3, but the cheapass in me says it is better to wait on the Wii. Sure the Wii system is cheaper, but now that the 360 has been out a year a lot of games are hitting $20, I already have 7 games I picked up for $20 or less. And with so many games out for the system, games drop faster, whereas at games seem to stay full price long after systems launch.

I am sure the Wii will be great but the only launch game I want right away is Zelda (I will wait on reviews for the other games), and if I buy others I am sure I will be spending $50 on each, I am just not ready to pay full price for games. Plus there is always that lull in games between launch and the second wave of games, for every system.

I am getting an HDTV in the next couple months also.

In the past, I used to pick up systems at launch with one game, then wait months for big price cuts on the early games. Some companies sent me their stuff for review, so I had a few random items.

No more. I just don't see the point. If there were some paying gigs going for related writing work I could justify it but I'm so backlogged on three consoles and two handheld platforms, I just cannot get very interested in the newer hardware until a lot of the library is widely available for cheap. So I may get an Xbox 360 in 2007 after it becomes clear how the new revision of the chipset will manifest.

If an incredible deal on new hardware popped up I might be tempted. But I'm expecting to channel my spare funds for software deals wrapping up the current gen of consoles and trailing the handhelds.

I'm not getting anything for a year at least. Maybe two. Like what the 360 has done so far, skeptical of N, and eh, Sony gets a big fat incomplete so far, but I imagine that the PS3 is going to be a bust the 1st year for the most part.

None of 'em. I can't really afford to buy any of them anyway and with Guitar Hero II, Okami, and Final Fantasy XII to keep me occupied on the PS2 I really don't feel I'll be missing all that much

I picked Wii60 cause, well I have a 360 and will be getting a Wii. If that is wrong, please beat me with large sticks. Also I am hoping to get out of the Wii launch with only spending $350ish tops(before tax). I want Zelda and one other game with my Wii. I am getting more games and a controller for my B-day which is 20 days past Christmas.

"I somehow missed an option..."

I guess I'm the only one still holding out for the Phantom. I heard it will come bundled with Duke Nukem Forever.

Dang it - I knew there was something! Bonus points for Detus!

I have no plans on purchasing any consoles this holiday season. Neither of the two consoles coming out are offering anything of interest, IMO.

None. Unless the wife is picking one up for me. If that's the case I will have a Wii. PS3 has nothing on it yet that I want. Same goes for the 360.

I just recently got an Xbox 360. Probably about a month or so after the Wii launch, i'll pick one of those up too. I'm not looking forward to too many games for Wii besides Smash Bros, Bleach, and probably whatever good import games come out. Thats about it.

I recently bought a Playstation 2, so I'm all set for this holiday season. Years of RPG's to catch up on.

I'll probably pick up a Wii sometime in early 2007. I like the system but I'm not all that impressed with the launch lineup (the biggest draw for me right now is the virtual console). I also want to wait and make sure there aren't any launch glitches, although Nintendo usually provides a solid launch product.

As for the PS3, I'm definitely waiting for a price drop. Several, probably.

Nothing this year. Too much of a backlog of older gen games to go through first.
A 360 will more than likely be my next puchase. As far as a PS3 is concerned, I will have to wait and see what kind of problems it will encounter quality-wise in it's first year before I buy. After going through 3 PS2's since it's launch, this is a no-brainer. Besides all the hype of what the PS3 can do, it better be able to wash my car and take out the trash for that kind of money.

I'll be purchasing the Wii, as I need something to play my now-idle Gamecube library on. I'll wait until the other two pricedrop and get all of the bugs worked out. Between a Wii, GCN, and PS2 library, I'm sure I'll have enough games to play until that time comes.

Budget-wise? A Wii, TLoZ:Twilight Princess, and another game/VC controller and points, depending.

Well, not that I needed a new system, but I sprung for a Xbox 360. Nothing will be the "icing" on the cake this Christmas season than finishing up my MBA finals (3 classes left after this semester) and playing Oblivion for the first time. I loved Morrowind, and everything I heard seem to be the minor annoyances of Morrowind are at least somewhat better here.

After this, I really see watiing until 2008 before picking up another console here. The Wii will likely be next, unless the PS3 drops like a rock.

To play: Wii
To eBay: PS3

I've got preorders at GameStop for both. If for some strange reason the Wiis are impossible to come by I'll eBay that too. I will definitely be picking them both up asap to play though depending on money made from eBay.
