if you dont know, im going vacationing this summer to Hong Kong,
well i was wondering what should i do. i dont have a GBA yet, but i really want one for the 15 hour plane trip. but i dont know whats the best to choose.
  • [[SITUATION]]

    a) buy a GBA because the GBA-SP has 10 hour battery life, or 18 without using the backlight, but its an airplane, and the car tripped to hotel etc, and i dont want it to ever die out, and stay died out, while in the GBA you can still keep changing AA batteries, and play nonstop. REMEMBER YOU CANT CHARGE AN SP ON AN AIRPLANE!
    b) get a GBA-SP for the heck of it
    c) i already have one of those old school gameboy with games, stick with those AND WAIT TILL I GET TO HONG KONG TO GET A SWEET COLORED GAME BOY SP. i really like this option, but i cant stand playing those GB games over and over again.. but when i get to HK, i get to get whatever GBA (SP) i want.
    d) other, please post solution
thank you very much, summer is coming up pretty soon, cant wait. but i need something for the airplane trip, and remember theres a trip back, so i can wait for the SP on the way there.. :) but its like 15 hrs of boredom.. OMG OR MAYBE IF THEY GOT A NINTENDO DS?!?! but i doubt it.. fun though.. :p

wait, before answering, HOW MUCH IS PRICE OF SP IN HK? DOES ANYONE KNOW? ITS PROBALLY CHEAPER THERE THEN HERE.. RIGHT?

**sweet, thanks. but i really wanna play advance wars now, i just played it on my friends sp, and it rocked, golden sun is not my type of game, its so typical.. didnt try warioware yet. oh yea, my friend is offering me his GBA, not sp, plus 4 games, i think it was mario, but didnt know which one, mario kart, mortal kombat, and tony hawk 3? yea. he never played it. and i like that see through blue color. hes a pothead and needs the 20 bucks for a dubsack so yea, should i buy his like-new gba? ***
gba for 20 dollars? never really played? worth it?

Wait to get an SP in HK if you want one like that so badly. There's other stuff to do on a plane than play games (read, sleep, write, feel pukish)...

naw, its an asian plane.. so yea.. nothing really to do. i dont read at all, im a 15 year old :p no dvd player.. i got a cd player.. no MP3 player.. :( shame, but yea.. i cant talk to my GF on the airplane.. something i do the whole day.. so yea. only thing i got is a game.. i cant sleep on planes for some reason.. the engines are frickin loud

Get one of the new Classic style GBA's those things look awesome, and think about this, do you really want to play games for 15-20 straight hours? Man that would kill my eyes and give me a wicked headache. Grab a few magazines, bring some cd's and alternate. If you're really set on playing games the entire plane ride, just get an extra battery, they don't cost too much more.

I say buy the SP now and get Advance Wars and Golden Sun with it. The old GBC games down have nearly the same amount of playability and mind engrossing story ('cept for maybe a FF game or two)

The battery in the SP is replaceable, a couple of companies actually make extra batteries for the SP but you need a mini screw driver to open the battery door.

The good things about an airline flight though is that you dont need the light the whole time if you fly during the day at all. They only shut off the lights during night time travel so others can sleep, otherwise you'll have nice floresant light to see by, or even the reading light if you really need it.
wait, so you can change the battery for the SP?
Yeah, seach Ebay for "gba sp battery" and there are tons of sellers selling 3rd party GBA sp battery pack.. some even include the special screwdriver to open it. You can use a 1/16" screwdriver btw, can be bought in any hardware.. specially in SEARS.

Get a regular GBA. You can get rechargeable batteries, a charger, and a light for less than $20 total.

The SP is a waste of money, in my eyes...although buying it as your first GBA is still far better than trading in an older GBA and spending another $70 to "upgrade" to an SP.

whats the difference between like the 110V and 220V GBA-SP? as seen here [link]http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-1b.html[link\] but i might just wait 1 air plane ride, so i get it there.. the colors to choose from are amazing.. i bet theres more colors there then here ;) but anywho, my friend , who is a bimbo, said she took out the battery for the SP and she put in like batterys from a watch.. is that right? is doesnt make sense. 110V 220V whats the difference?

I thought Gameboys were identical for the most part, no matter where you buy them? Assuming they are different in terms of voltage, let's use a VCR to compare. If you plug a 110V VCR (like from the US) into a 220V outlet, there is a good chance that you will damage the VCR and fry the circuits because there is too much voltage. And if you plug a 220V VCR into a 110V outlet, chances are it won't even work because not enough power is getting to it. When you go to Hong Kong, you can get a converter that will convert a 220V outlet to 110V. Either way, I suggest getting an SP now, because you won't be playing a game for 15 hours straight. You'll probably want to take a rest break, you're going to eat, and use the bathroom. Also, I've been on an "asian" plane. They play movies (yes, American movies) on them.

really? thats cool. but i really wanted to get one of those game fancy looking SP's there, and its probally really cheaper then it is here. but iono how cheap. maybe i should buy one here before i go, and if i get another one there, ill return the one i bought here? :)

I'd get a GBA SP here, I've been to Asia once or twice and it can get very boring. (My European trip on Virgin Air had a SNES with some preloaded games to choose from (Super Mario World and FZERO being the higlights, on every regular seat, not only business, so I wasn't bored then at all :D ) What airlines are you flying by the way? I know that some companies do have a similar setup on their planes (I think SIA does)

Get a gameboy "skin" to make your SP special. taht way you dont get tired of the same old color. Also, you can buy 3rd party batteries w/mini screwdriver at TRU.

truth be told, the SP makes me play my games more, considering i dont have to f with the light. ever.

yea, well im going in august, so yea.. i got ALOT of time to choose my discission. but these things matter to me : PRICE, NEW/OLD, WHERE ITS BOUGHT, AND COLOR. price matters cause its like 80 bucks here for a SP, but in HK i think its 50? not sure, and color.. i dont like skins, those are waste of 7 bucks for some ol paper. I WANTED A PINK GBA-SP from japan, or the famicom, or even those one with the pokeman on them :)

i would get the normal gba...its cheaper now...maybe 40-70 bucks...that range..that way you can get more games, so if your tired of one, just play another...

games i would get for the ride:

1. advance wars
2. warioware
3. golden sun

I couldn't really get into Golden Sun (or Wario Ware, for that matter). But I will say that Final Fantasy Tactics Advance owned my soul for about 3 months.

Good luck sneaking the screwdriver on the plane. After 9/11 it is hard to bring anything on the plane that could be used as a weapon. They took out fingernail clippers out of my carry-on once.

If you loved advanced wars I would definately check out Fire Emblem. I have played for hours and still pick up the game at least once a week after beating it. I'd probably go with the $20 almost never played GBA and then buy a SP in Hong Kong. I love my SP, the light and rechargable battery are worth the extra money to me.

ohk :) so whats the frickin point of getting a barely rare GBA, when i can wait till the summer to get an sp? waste of money. i dont waste money :) save it for games or something. i probally wanna get the 20dollar used gba frm my friend, dont wanna spend alot on an sp, please ill afterburn it

yea, i decided ima get the 20 dollar deal, comes with smb 3, tonyhawk 3, mario kart, mortal kombat :D hes a pothead friend, so he dont care about the game as long as he gots his weed money. :) at gamecrazy gba's are 50 bucks. used. guess how much ill make? sellin the games + gba. then ill get the sp. JK ima keep the gba. :) and games
