Hope someone has had experience with both and can give me some comparison feedback. I have had it with all of the dropped calls with Sprint, so I am looking to switch. Verizon's network is pretty reliable, but they don't have the option to use a GSM unlocked phone (which I want to get later for overseas use). So my options are Cingular and T-Mobile. Oh, and if you know of any good deals on handsets or service I'd love to hear those as well. I guess I missed out on the free Razr phone that CompUSA or Circuit City was doing. The phones at Amazon say they are free, but it seems like a come-on because the links clearly state prices for the phones. Anyway, service is the number one concern right now, so I await your feedback.

Thanks, Dane.

Well,

You do know that is obviously going to vary in each area correct..

The one thing I will say is I was on T-Mobile and we never really had any issues with them. Every year they sent us a new phone for free and There prices that were quoted INCLUDED taxes and all the other surcharges..

We swithced to Alltell to get coverage in the Upper Peninsula and we got on a Similar premium plan but its about $20 more a month as the Quoted rate is before the taxes etc.

Food for thought.

I've been using T-Mobile for about 4 years now. Never had a problem with service. Been good to me and very cheap compared to what I could be spending. Plus they have some great exclusive phones.

I have no real problem with T-Mobile, but take a good look at their service area, as its not the size of nor as reliable as Cingular and Verizon AFAIK

i had cingular for about 3 years and this past summer i switched to tmobile. the coverage is just as good as cingulars. (im in northern california). but i like tmobile a lot more because i have a lot more minutes.

I've been using t-mobile for a while now, and I've had some problems recently. I can never get service anywhere, but I'm pretty sure it's my crappy phone. It's been dropped in the toilet and the ground multiple times.

They are pretty much the same in my experiences (I live in Southern California). I do love rollover minutes with Cingular, which often compensates for the fact that T-Mobile has more minutes in their plans.

T-Mobile myself and I haven't had too many problems. Hated how when I came back from vacation last summer and popped back onto their network, they'd switched to having to pay for the wireless internet access through your phone. It's nice how they had that part of the service in Asia, but oh well.

I had Cingular/AT&T for many years. They're fine when I'm in the city, but when I go back to school, the receptions are crappy. My dad had T-Mobile once for a day, it worked great anywhere, but it didn't get any reception at home. He returned it the next day and went back to Cingular/AT&T.

On a side note, apparently from what I heard on the radio, Cingular has the least amount of dropped calls after a studying done by some independent research group. But since it's on the radio, I suggest taking that with a grain of salt.

I have had Cingular for almost a year now. I had Nextel and it was shit. I haven't had T-mobile and i doubt I will. But I haven't heard anything bad about it. I have a crappy free Cingular phone and it works great. Well besides the face plat opposite of hte battery door doesn't stay on well.

I have T-Mobile they are pretty good. Almost a year now. Easy to pay bills, more bang for your buck on minutes. They have good exclusive phones as well. Their coverage isn't as good as Cingular but that doesn't matter because I travel within T-Mobiles coverage zoon. Also they have one year contracts as opposed to Cingular's two year contracts so theres less commitment joining T-Mobile.

I had Nextel for 3 years through my old job. It was horrible. I switched to Cingular which works great. I can actually use my phone in my house.
Plus, I listen to the CAGcasts on my iTunes phone.

The answer totally depends on where you live, but I will say this:

I live in NJ and I've had extensive experience with both T-Mobile and Cingular, as I bounce back and forth taking advantage of their "new customer" promotions. In my honest opinion I would stay the HELL away from T-Mobile. After having a ton of dropped calls and NO SERVICE AT ALL in my apartment I have to say their service is subpar.

Both my sister and I have had nothing but trouble with T-Mobile's customer service. She had a phone stop working and went through 6 months of hassle obtaining a replacement (2, actually) to fix the problem and THEN got slammed with a "not-returned fee" for one phone that T-Mobile lost. It took over a dozen phone calls to T-Mobile customer service, phone calls to the U.S. Post Office distribution centers in multiple states, and finally a letter AND a followup phone call to the Vice President of corporate customer service to get her $180 credited back to her.

Similarly, I lost a cell phone and decided to purchase another one from them. While it was being shipped I had second thoughts and upon receipt refused the delivery (on their advice). This time they did in fact credit me for the phone but slapped me with an early termination fee because the customer service rep decided to "upgrade" my account and tack on another year of service. And believe me I repeatedly told him I did not want to upgrade, I would rather pay full price for the phone than $60 a month for another year to save like $90 on the purchase price of the phone. I cancelled with T-Mobile this past November and STILL have not received my $200 credit forwarded to me as a check. If they do not ship it to me by the end of March, I will be filing with small claims court to force them to pay.

On the flipside I have never once had any problems with Cingular. In fact when I switched over they incorrectly signed me up on a lesser phone plan than I wanted (a simple mistake) and upon receiving a $240 phone bill for my first month of service, it took only one call to rectify the error and wipe the $240 from my account. Cingular service never drops out and I rarely have little or no reception. Their service is just better in NJ.
