White Knight Chronicles - Level 5's Groundhog Day Present - February 2, 2010 in NA
Just looked up what the Platinum entails. Good God.

I'm going to have to completely clean out the ol' backlog before I even think of picking this up.
More like "Good Luck" but I'm certain plenty of people will Platinum it. Like you, I'm going to have to clear my backlog first.

Great, it went to shipping soon on Amazon and now that I see the 6/10 on GS, I'm going to flip it. Should've just canceled it, but at least I'll be able to make a decent return on it.

Anyone else find that a lot of the time Gamespot has a score way different than other sites? I find that they trash a lot of the games that I like the most so Im going to take their review with a grain of salt.

Gamespot (and Eurogamer) tend to score games lower than other sites. Additionally, they tend to reward innovation and punish conventionality more than other sites.

That said, to base your purchase decision on one review, nay one score, is pretty silly in my opinion. But you do what you want...

Kane and Lynch, dude. That's the last time I saw that kind of gamespot-vs-everyone else disparity, because it's the last time I read anything at gamespot.

Watched a bit on a live stream last night, very pretty game.
And the dub isn't so bad, even if the lipsync is off.

Thing is I have no time for this game right now and I was just looking for a reason to cancel, which I honestly should have just done days ago anyways. Today I start the new STALKER and it will just be new game after new game for a few months, so this would be a lazy summer day start at best for me. By then, I don't see the point since the online will be far past me.

Yeah I don't remember what the exact game was that I gave up on them was. I usually trust ign, usually. My friend recommended destructoid.com but they hate the PS3 and love the PSP which is the exact opposite of my views. Fan boys should not run websites that pretend to not be biased.

When it all boils down, nothing beats coming here and seeing what the people think of a game.

Gamefly jsut shiopped me out a copy so Ill let you guys know what I think.
The GS review reads like it's just the thing for people who needed a reason to "safely" pass on it.
I like how it mentioned the multiplayer when it only went live today, for a few hours, even to the press.

But anyway, I already knew this game was going to get wildly mixed reviews, but I'm not worried a bit. I've little doubt I'll enjoy it. A 6 from Gamespot, an 8 from Eurogamer.
It all balances out.
Well, it didn't exactly require an oracle to see that many people were on the fence. I'm sure this game will even out around 7-8, but it really needed to be above average to garner my attention.

It's been known to be an average but enjoyable RPG for 14 months now, there's been English reviews up.
But I do understand not everyone has kept up with the game like I have since it launched.

I wonder when other media sites start giving their reviews, they must be giving online a chance since GS didn't bother.
I know the 1Up reviewer was ready to give a negative opinion but has gotten hooked to the online since last night. (from reading his posts)

This.

Imagine for a second that you could only play PSO offline... how much would that suck? That's the case here: the offline mode is there because it has to be there, but the online questing is where the real enjoyment (and, indeed, the real timesink) is going to happen. I can't imagine that anyone who has enjoyed games like PSO or Monster Hunter is not going to find enjoyment out of this game, regardless of its average story mode.

I don't care what gamespot reviewers think. I'm surprised people still do. I ordered my copy from amazon along with a guide. I'm going to play it as soon as I wrap up on Fallout 3 DLCs.

Just picked up my copy from Best Buy, got it as they were putting it out on the shelves.

Don't know when I'll be able to play it

I've enjoyed games that got average review scores, and not enjoyed games that got really high review scores. Bottom line, if it's a title I'm interested in, I just take all the reviews with a grain of salt.
If the single player is that forgettable I don't think I want it since that's mainly what I'd be getting it for.
If you only want singleplayer, I recommend getting at $40.

I'm surprised people weigh their game decisions based on what other sites think. Drones...

Where there's smoke, there's fire. I personally wasn't very excited for this game just from previews or watching gameplay, but these reviews are beyond how bad I thought it would be. Screw trying to flip this game, I'm just returning it.

US reviewers are picking it apart a lot more than I would have thought.
Euro and Japanese reviews were much more favorable.

I guess it's "love it or hate it" here. Those kind of games I usually enjoy so I'm hopeful.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, a 5.1/10 from IGN? This game is through.
Holy Crap it only got that I watched the video review and it looked ok. Screw it I picked it up at Best Buy earlier I'm just gonna open it and play it these reviews make the game seems awful which im sure it's not.

Remember: this is the site that gave Too Human a 7.5 when every other site gave it 5~6.

So far the IGN and GS just glossed over the game, they didn't even mention a lot of what you can do in the game as far as item/weapon creation, georama, and online quests. (to be fair, they said about 2 sentences worth)

At the end, the IGN review says it's not an awful game, just too many flaws.

I think it's too much of a 'classic' style RPG and is too staid compared to the all the action modern RPGS have today, which many pegged Blue Dragon as.
To me, that's great, and why I really enjoyed BD, because it felt like an old 16bit RPG as far as mechanics go.
It'll be nice to play a game with so much color as well.

+++++++++++++

EDIT: Wow, in the comments they called him out on not mentioning a lot of the other details in the game he replied with: "They weren't important to me so I'm not going to write about them"

That's pretty bad journalism right there.

Well, here's a happier review to quell off the negative stuff:

And another favorable review with pluses and minuses:

I dunno how "scientific" this is, but it's interesting if you were leaning towards getting the game:

What a cockhorse. Try pulling that shit with Mass Effect 2 and see how quickly your newly-fired ass gets thrown out the digital door.

Pleas guys do not sleep on this game, IGN and GS review obviously did not create any combos, at first the battle system is lacking but once you create chain combos its awesome and fast paced. Graphics wise, the game is very pretty including the enviorments. Lip syncing is off to say the least but really who cares, so far the story is just alright. Geo system is very interesting and opens endless possiblities.

in short: DO NOT sleep on this game, its got something special about it
I picked it up today and Im enjoying it, very pretty game
Same here, can't complain about a free game. Although M.A.G. still calls me away every now and then.

Meh, IGN has given some games I enjoyed really low scores in the past. Can't spell ignorant without IGN. I'm still on board, my Amazon order says it'll be here Friday.

My question is why would I want to ignore glaring flaws (if present) just to try and find the fun in a game? That's just ignorance.

They tend to get overly harsh when they don't like something.

You're very passionate about your disinterest, Judou.

How many more times can you tell us today that you're not interested in this one particular game?

Because the fun out weight's the negative, honesty what MMO had a great battle system? why ding a game for that when it is essentially trying to mimick that very thing. The battle system starts slow, but once you create combos, it really speeds things up alot. The customization is insane, Geo Net is fantastic. Story is so-so, but once again what MMO has a great story?

My guess would be is when we take our copies back or offer to buy him a copy to help convince him, but neither is happening.

Wow that's awful. It doesn't matter what's important to him. His job is to inform the reader as much as he can about the game so they can make an educated purchase. That's why I don't take IGN seriously. Their reviews are garbage and their scale is laughable. Why in 2010 are we still counting Sound into the overall review score? What in the hell is the difference between a score of say a 7.5 and 7.6? Also their lasting appeal score of a 6.5 seems ridiculous, considering the online mode and everything. Did any of these reviewers actually play the game online? Like it or not, review scores by the major sites can affect sales. If IGN, Gamespot, etc are shitting all over it, that can quickly put an "avoid" label on it for people.

Any CAG impressions? I read that justpushstart review and this stuck out:

Honestly, I think this game is Dark Cloud 3.
:D

I think games should be rated like this. You are playing a game and start at 8 p.m. and the next time you look at the clock it's 2 a.m. That game right there is a 10. I haven't played the game but it doesn't look like a mediocore 5.1 rated game.

How long do you think until this game falls into the 30-40 on sale category? April 1st?
