Why can't they keep the Bathrooms separate from the Locker Room?
Just giving you a hard time. As that's probably the oddest and least believable story I've seen posted on CAG in quite a while.
Dude, Its CAG....

Let me clarify and see if this makes more sense to you. The locker room was very, very crowded, obviously due to the influx of "New Year's Resolution" people. The majority of them were either naked and about to take a shower or just done taking a shower. As I tried to manuever threw the locker, and the several singing and dancing old folks I bumped into several people and was "slapped". They didn't purposefully run up to me and rub their junk on me. I was just hit several times trying to go to the bathroom. The locker room is like a thin hall and it is ridiculously small for the amount of people that were in there. There is a long bench that leads right to the bathroom, so I had to slip through one side of it and into crowd.

Believe me, it wasn't pleasant. I also think one of them didn't "accidentally" bump into me.

Reminds me oddly of that Sopranos episode where Vito Spatafore's kid shit in the middle of the locker room shower and stomped on it.

That's more believable. Though I've still never seen a bunch of people standing around naked (usually just one or two 60+ year olds, everyone else keeps at least a towel on as much as possible)

Thankfully all the gyms I've went to have pretty large locker rooms, and I don't go in the evenings so I miss the worst crowds. Sounds like you should find a new gym!

I love my gym. Hot Girls, great weights and it is really comfortable in there. I just hate every New Year when we get all the fat slobs in that don't actually do anything. I went at gym primetime yesterday and I realized why I don't use the locker room. I live close enough to the gym anyway.

Fair enough. I never go to the gym at primetime. I'll skip a work out first. I usually go sometime between 9am and 1pm depending on when I drag myself out of bed, get a work out in, hop in the shower then head to the office (or back home if I'm working from home that day). No crowds and I feel more energized if I work out first thing in the morning. But of course I have the luxury of not having to be in the office any set hours unless I'm teaching or having meetings--and I seldom do either in the morning.

I am not that lucky.

Well, to be fair it's not really lucky. It took a lot of work to get to this point (masters, and soon Ph D) and I work a lot of hours a week (usually 60-70) I just have flexibility in what time of day I work those hours--outside of teaching (which I'm not doing this year) and meetings. But I still like it as I like my work, and don't long hours and I'm not a morning person at all so it's great not having to get up at the ass crack of dawn very often.
thank god ppl dont get naked in my locker room... let alone no one really uses the showers there either
I still don't get how afraid/repulsed some are by nudity. I don't like it, especially when it's unecessary (shaving at the sink buck naked etc.) but I don't get repulsed or offended by people undressing and heading to the shower etc.

And I'll always use the showers at the gym, even if I go after work and head straight home afterwards. I'm paying a membership, might as well use the water their vs. paying for water used to shower at home
I live close enough to the gym anyway.
Perhaps you should have just run home and pissed, then? I'm glad you didn't though, because this story helped get me through the day.

Even if I had to use the bathroom really really bad I would have held it if there was a chance of me getting slapped by another dudes dong.

Same and Agreed. Some people take being naked to a whole different level though.

I was getting changed at the gym to get ready to play some basketball after my workout and one old guy conveniently had the same locker right next to me. I assume he just got out of the shower since he had a towel around himself. I was sitting on the bench when he popped his leg up right next to me and took off his towel and used the towel to floss his ass with it.

Needless to say I tossed my shit in my locker and hustled my ass out of the locker room and up to the courts. That pretty much scarred me for life. What makes things worse is that I had the worst basketball game I have ever played in my life. What a terrible day.

Yeah, you do occasionally have something awful like that happen. But I've still never seen a locker room packed full of people standing around naked like the OP described.

It's usually just a one or two old men who for whatever reason think it's fine to do everything from showering to brushing their teeth to standing around talking buck naked. Pretty much everyone else just gets naked at their locker, puts a towel on, walks to the shower, comes back gets naked finished drying off quickly and gets dressed and leaves.

Now wait a second. Your post here suggests that you've been going to this gym - or a gym - for a long time.

It's just now that you realized that the bathroom and locker room are in the same space?

Please. Locker room = nekkid spaces. Them's the breaks.

Though I share your lament of the "new year's crowd." Despite that it warms my lil' heart when they stick around and improve their conditioning.

I don't get that flossing ass with towel thing either, I never found a need to in there like that.

Well, generally we towel to get rid of moisture. Do you dry out your arm pits? Same scenario for guys, it's a area where skin normally creates an enclosed area with body hair. It must be dried!

Never did get the concept of a gym... go INDOORS to a hot room to workout? and you have to pay an insane amount to do that? No thanks.

You are essentially paying the gym to rent the equipment and facilities. Do you have the thousands of dollars on hand that it would take to replicate the workouts you can do at a gym? Also consider basketball courts, classes, or any other services they may provide. Also, by paying them, you don't have to have the space to keep the equipment yourself.

You don't dry your ass-crack? How do you not have swamp ass 24-7?

No thanks, but I can do better things like... Ride my $2000+ (which is a much better investment), or run, or Go to my local Rollerhockey facility and pay an outragous $15 to have a shit load of fun.

What if you want to strength train?

You can't get American determination and ballsiness at a gym, you're born with it.

Never needed to and never really got that concept either. At least for the things I competed in. Now that I'm out of school and don't need to compete so no point. Either way, biking up a hill in the hardest gear possible for about an hour or two is way better than anything a gym has to offer.

No, I knew that they are always connected, hence the reason I avoid them at all costs. I had to go so ridiculously bad, I figured, it can't be that bad. WRONG DECISION! I am simply saying, I would prefer a private bathroom or a bathroom that is not directly next to the showers.
teaching? are you a professor? my friend's dad was tenured.. and the man had the best job ever.
Soon to be. Finishing up my Ph D and have an Assitant Professor job that starts next fall. So the past couple years have been doing some teaching and getting some publications out to land the job and now just scrambling to finish the dissertation. It's a shit load fo work, but once you get tenure (and especially once you get promoted the 2nd time to full professor) it's a decent job--if you're not a workaholic. But you can generally make a lot more money in the private sector. But I love having freedom to do whatever research I do, not answering to a boss and having a lot of flexibility in what hours I work (work a ton, but again nice to not have early mornings often).

Fine, but some of us like to lift weights.

You enjoy riding your bike and other stuff and some of us enjoy hitting the weights, building muscle and strenghth etc. To each their own.

Hard to have the money and especially the space to every do a comparable workout with what I can do in the gym. And it's just $45 a month which is nothing.

Free to go to the trails around here. Can go anytime as many times for free. I suppose my bike makes up for it being free, but I'm still getting my money worth since I'm using it all where as if I go to a gym and don't use it then I might as well be flushing money down the toilet.

Like I said, to each their own. That's what you like. I like lifting weights, and I like the way I feel and look with weight training. Which is different that what you get with straight cardio exercise like biking etc. as that doesn't build muscle--other than some in the legs of course.

No need to be so judgemental or pompous. I'm not going to tell you there's anything wrong with biking for exercise, because there's not. People just have different fitness and appearance goals.

That's probably true where you live, but it's pretty cold in Chicago. I don't think I want to be out riding the trails right now.:)

Even worse is the local YMCA where the only way to get to the pool area is to not only go into the locker room, but you have to walk through the shower area to get to the pool entrance even if you aren't swimming or using the pool.

You guys are ass flossers? I dry mine but no need to do the flossing technique, usually a swipe or two will do the trick.

I usually just get the hair dryer out and set it on "cool".
