Why couldn't I "Connect to Xbox LIVE"?
they need to start using dedicated servers. enough of this peer hosting bullshit we pay for.
Maybe that is why EA insisted on using their own servers? I always wondered about that.

live.xbox.com has been hosed for about a month..at least. It takes FOREVER to log in and see your friends and send messages.

MS really needs to get it together.
Just realize this....

$50 a year for Live.

365 days a year.

That equals about 14 cents per day, so even with the outage being 3 to 5 days it wouldn't amount to much.
Still doesn't change the fact that I service I paid for is out for 3-5 days. If my cable or my internet goes down, I expect to be compensated the 3-5 days it's out. The same with Xbox Live. I don't think it's an unreasonable request.

I agree, I'm just saying it won't be much.

It would be quite an expensive lesson to MS, however. $.14/day over 5 days = $.70. Now multiply that by the number of paying members. (Quick google search is showing 6-8 million, so we'll go with the low number). 6,000,000 x .70 = $4.2 million. That's for 5 days!

I know that's still a drop in the bucket for MS, but it's still enough to make their butt hurt. Of course, these numbers are sheer speculation, and I can't gaurantee accuracy.

My XBL has been working smoothly ever since midnight PST, I played about 3 hours of COD4 with no problems and was able to get all the DLC I needed.

This was happening to me for a while the other day. Turned off auto sign in and everything seems better. The items are still loading slowly, but I am able to manually sign in every time.
You'd think with all the ad money they make and paying subscribers they wouldn't have problems. =)
Mo' money, mo' problems as the saying goes.

At any rate, I was able to get in some Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force online gaming on the PC and I hadn't done that in a long time. Funny going back to Gamespy after being on Live so much.

I can log onto live, but my friends list and messages don't show up in the dashboard. It tells me how many friends I have with the pop up, but I can't go look at my friends list. Did this yesterday for a while also.

This is ridiculous. The damn system can't decide whether I'm online or not. I get the usual prompts that I'm signed on, but the dash says otherwise. I pop a game in and it signs me out, then signs me in. I take the game out and I'm signed out and have to restart the console to get signed back on.

That's a ridiculous way to look at it. MS is a business and they need to keep their customers happy. If they offered $.40 for this outage, it would actually piss them off more.

Something's definitely f'd up .
Shrek 2 is a Xbox game .

EDIT**I guess this proves that they know which Xbox games people play and try to play .**

Despite the fact that it would be mathmatically accurate, you are right.

Believe me, I know more that most about customer service. I am pretty sure MS realizes they need to keep customers happy. It isn't like they are drinking champange while Xbox Live fades into oblivion with no one working on the problem.

I've been getting the exact same thing over the weekend, and I'm sure it's a common symptom. It's annoying as all get out. Everything ran better before the last system update, but it's been especially bad recently.

That's great. Shrek 2 isn't even a BC game. :D

No doubt all the new Christmas owners are putting a strain on the service .
I guess it'll go away for sure in a month when their trial subscriptions expire .

I dunno... I'd wager a good percentage of the new users will subscribe if they haven't already. It's the 360's killer app. MS just needs to add more tubes to their internets.

This is getting ridiculus. It's been a good three days since I've been able to play online.

It's nice that I'm able to get back into a few single-player games, but people are teasing me by sending me invites to Halo 3 that I can't connect too ...

Yeah, I popped in the original Halo to walk around the multiplayer maps and see how far the level design has come in Halo 3, and now I have Halo listed in my achievements. It's really pointless; even though Halo is one of the Xbox Originals titles, there are no achievements for it. I wish I could remove it from my list.

This is too funny. I can see games in TF2 (haven't bothered to join any), but XBL insists that I'm not connected. Make up your fucking mind.

Same here, lunchboxfett. I can't play my arcade titles except the ones on the Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 disk that I got for free. Kinda frustrating since the only ones I haven't finished are Texas Hold 'em and Bejeweled 2. Bejewled 2's achievments are impossible, and I'm too impatient half the time with Texas Hold 'em.

I'm having the same conneciton problem with my 360, but I can get mine to connect. I just make sure I have a game in the console (I use COD4) and let it run, then I push the Xbox button on the controller and connect from there. I hope that helps, that's how I get on.

I think the new patch for 360 = worst patch ever.

It like made everything slower and shittier. Now its broken, even more shitty. Ugh. I just want to know why all my games are freezing now!!! It's so frusturating!! =(

I'm just going to ask this here because the thread is active and the question is too small to justify a new thread.

Does anyone still play Bomberman Live? I got a points card today and I'd like to get Bomberman, but only if people still play it.

What the F did this patch do?! Did my 360 fans turn off? I think my 360 is overheating. Say if I had my 360 off for an hour it would work for 5 minutes, then if I only have it off for 5 minutes it would work for 1 minute and if I have it off for like 30 seconds it would work for like 10 seconds. And it even froze at the Xbox Logo boot up.

It would get all distorted colors. Like patterns of blue or a blue screen or green lines.

Does this relate to the problems with Live? I unplugged my internet and took out my hard drive and it still freezes.

T_T The 360 is a peice of shit.

Lolol. I called and talked to the guy and told him about my freezing problem and he said, "Well it seems like its a hardware failure. You are going to have to pay 90 dollars for this repair" and so I quickly said, "Oh, it just gave me 3 red rings. What does that mean?" (I was lieing I just know you get free shipping if you say that) so then he was like, "Oh, ok then it will be free and we will ship you a box and a free xbox live membership". Nice.

fuck now I have to wait 2-3 weeks.

I was the only one of my friends that has had no problems with the 360. So that makes 4 + me of my friends with broken 360's and only 4 of my friends own a 360. The POS award of the year goes to 360!!!
This is really beginning to piss me off. 9 days now that we have had shitty XBL and still no fix...
I really hope they give us at least a WEEK of free Xbox Live. This whole christmas break has been plagued with barely being able to go on Xbox Live. I can play alone fine. I get minor problems when trying to play alone online. When I try to play with my friends, which I always play with, we get so many hosting problems that it's ridiculous.

Wow. I just tossed a router into the garage because I thought it was the source of these problems...

IDK what people are talking about, 9 days of bad service...?

Why did it stop working for you 2 days before X-Mas?

I didn't start noticing problems since last Thursday, and even then I've been able to find other things to do...

Also, whoever is complaining about the patch, I think you're in the minority. Also, why would it start acting up now versus when you first patched it?

I actually hope they give something like free points or a XBLA game (yeah right) instead of free time, since I'll be resubscribing again regardless.
This is just sad. 50 bucks a month for a service that gets messed up almost one a Week for every month? I mean It must be nice for the Free Customers on the PS3 cause if there service goes down, they don't really have anything to complain about. But what about the people playing monthly? This is just sad. I hope we get some kind of Reimbursement.
Once a week? Man, thats your shitty ISP connection, not XBL.

I've never had a problem until now and when they shut it down for a couple hours to update the servers. Which they absolutely have to do, and yes it requires hours.

Sounds to me that they're just having issues because of all the new kids with 360s... Everyone needs to stop being and whiner and give it some time, its only been a coulple days, and most people can still play games, its just delayed and buggy. I didnt even have any trouble till last night.

Also, whats up with the 9 days? I count 6 from Xmas right now... and I never had an real issue (other than just slow) till last night.

What you people need to realize, is that what they're doing with XBL is A> Never been Done before, and they're treading new water, B> The scale of XBL is enormous. It would be nice if companies could spend billions on updating servers and speeds to never have this issue... but in all honesty... making XBL isnt free, and making it into what it is now is pretty insane. I'm a systems administrator for a defense contract company, and I know a very minor bit of what makes XBL work, and let me tell you... the amount of work to keep something like that up and stable is pretty mindblowing.

What I'm saying is Relax, when shit like this happens... you get people staying 24+ hours on the clock to fix it. They knew the problem before it got to this scale, sometimes it gets worse before its gets better. Im sure they're implimenting new servers.

Also, for Darkness Bear.... of course PS3 is never slow... PS3 doesnt have a third of the online traffic.

The bigger the network and enabled connections, the harder it is to balance it. You can expect for it to never have issues.

This is STILL going on. It was actually pretty bad for me last night. I had rented Lego Star Wars II: TOT and it had a title update..I couldn't even update the game because everytime I connected I got disconnected while trying to update. It was really annoying..

Again, I understand things happen.. but c'mon. This is getting really old, really fast.

Yeah, I wonder if anyone tried calling 1-800-4MY-XBOX and see what they had to say. This does suck though....Halo 3 was a mess trying to get a game last night.
