I had asked for a certain weekend off two months in advance, because I was going out of town. The following month, as the company was getting to be in bad shape, they announced no more requests for time off would be honored, and you'd have to find someone to switch shifts with; I didn't think this would be a problem, since I normally didn't work weekends, and has asked for the time off before the new rule. Sure as hell, I was scheduled to work, so I didn't show up. I waited until the middle of the day and called in sick. The manager yelled at me, saying he knew I wanted the time off, so I asked him why they waited until then to schedule for my first ever weekend shift. I was then informed I was on probataion and was being written up. I was to return to work on Monday and, if I kept my nose clean, could keep my job. I got a call on Monday from that manager asking where I was; I said "Enjoying myself. Write me up for that, too," and hung up.
