I picked it up last night at my local Best Buy. I can't believe I waited so long to buy it. It's by far one of the most awesome games I have ever played.

Yes it is OP. Game is absolutely awesome. Not the best graphics but super addictive. I've beaten it 3 times and am now trying to get all the comets this time.

this is old news, but i am glad that the mainstream public loves this game so much. It proves that gaming can go to a whole other level than what everyone thinks it "should" be.

and yes... you don't know how many hours I've spent on this game.

The reason why it is sweet is because you just pick it up and play. No memorization of combos, spell lists, or mulitple button functions. It's a game that isn't a chore to learn and to be honest its a refreshing change from the "kill everything" type of games that are out now (I still like those too though, lol).

Is it really that good. I have the namco demo and I played KD but it wasn't anything special. Are there any other objectives other than getting the ball to a certain size to clear the level?

And is mainstream catching on to it? Anyone with sales figure for the game. I'm still thinking only hardcore gamers are picking it up i.e. people who posts on message boards.

To answer both questions, in the end it's mostly rolling up your katamari bigger. But there are variations and objectives. I'd buy it if I were you, it's only 15 after GGC if you can find one at your best buy like me.

Also, I have to agree with you I think we might be over estimating how much is being sold. It's not a GTA or anything in sales but for a niche title, and believe me this defines niche titles, it's a smash. I believe an extra printing was ordered but I can't confirm that. If nothing else, it shows companies that just because a game doesn't have ultra violence doesn't mean it's not going to sell. The sales of this game will make developers to take a chance on others. Look at Phantom Dust, that's a niche title and if that sells well who knows maybe more and more games that are primarly japanese will get released here.
It's pretty sweet but nowhere near as sweet as Metroid Prime 2. Now that game is SWEET!!!
Ironically I still haven't opened the copy I have. I got it in December...

Yes, I too love Katamari Damacy. However, I feel as though one day it'll be just as rare as Gitaroo Man. I remember feeling the same about Gitaroo Man as I do about Katamari Damacy, great game for a great price and this time around I picked up a copy to play and I picked up a second copy that I'm keeping sealed. Since it's only $14.99 at BB after the GGC, what is there to lose?

You should listen to CAG's when they a game gets unanimous praise from us. I'm glad you eventually got it, it's a great game. I can't wait for the sequel to come out.

I know when it innitially was released that every store was running out of it and that they hadn't expected it to sell so well. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32496&highlight=

That's the link. I'm pretty sure it has sold quite a bit, not sure exact numbers though.
On IGN PS2's board, I think I saw the number sold was around 106,000. Not bad for a non mainstream type game.
That's close to what I had thought it had sold. I personally had thought that it sold 140,000+ copies. Is there any way to find this out like how much money a movie makes or how many C.D.s were sold?

I knew about the game long before most CAGs. I lived in Japan for a while so I knew about from there. Kinda why I was surprised I waited so long.

Because this game has multiple ways of beating the goal on each level. For example, did you know that you can clear the 10cm requirement on level one without leaving the tabletop you start on? Everything (when the katamari is big enough) can eventually be rolled up into the ball, then you can go to the floor and pick up more. Or you can roll from the table to the floor and get the 10cm. No path is the same. That's why I love it.

It is sweet because when you get to the last level you've got this huge huge ball and this tiny price rolling it and the king of cosmos rocks.

What was the original retail price of Gitaroo Man? I got it complete for about $30 @ an EB last week. Was it originally a $20 game like KD?

This game has the "polish" of a Nintendo 1st party game. Very smooth control wise and well thought out. I heard they worked on this game for like 5+ years.

I played the demo too and felt the same way.

Its great for it is one of those games (for me at least) that hits you at a subconscious level. like Tetris once did. One morning I had to get up much earlier than normal, as I stumbled to the bathroom I remember looking at my toothbrush and thinking "I'm big enough now to roll that,"

anygame that can do that will always get me.

it's just cool to be big so you can snatch up stadiums and buildings and such hehe.

Bought based on 'different' ness and general opinions.
Played two-player for about an hour with company, played single-player through the first 3 assignments.
Got bored, haven't played it since.
I'm glad it came over here and is doing well [at least among 'gamers'], we definitely need more 'different' games, and I like the art style and of course the music. But the game just doesn't do it for me.

This game is one of the few games that my wife can get in to. She really enjoys rolling the ball around. Both of us have experienced what the poster above remarked about seeing objects in real life that you imagine collecting. This game really appeals to the "OCD" neat-freak inside of me! It's like cleaning, but without the real effort! :)

lets see...$15 for a game that has u hooked...or a $50 that will most likely frustrate u from goin back and forth him too much ;)...hmmm
If America doesn't get the sequel when it comes out, there is no God.
um, there's no god then. I think the sequel will sell just like the first one... maybe a little better but nothing earth-shattering...

Another thing is that there really isn't any moment in the game that pisses people off. No difficult bosses or anything like that. Other than occasionally getting stuck I never really got angry at all.

I would disagree--I really don't like those levels that you have to get the biggest Cow or bear. I can't tell you how many times I'm going along avoiding bears like crazy and I run over what looks like a manhole cover or something goofy, game stops and its a stupid Tiny bear. AAAAAERRRGGGG.

(doesn't stop me from loving it though ! )
I haven't gotten that far yet. I should have said for the parts I played I really didn't get frustrated.
There are only two of those level.

I got pretty pissed at Katamari Damacy a number of times, whether it was saving problems or just missing the requirements or getting lost, etc. No idea how they could even make a sequel to it - seriously.

I love the game, but i agree with getting the biggest animal frustrations. alot of things dont look like it would have the animal but even a milk carton got mess up your cow level.

I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend and after playing it she thought it was really sweet that I found a game that she loves. I also got it for her cuz I don't have a PS2 and wanted to play it, hehe.

It really isn't that frustrating, just be patient. I've gotten stuck a couple times too and missed little requirements, but you'll eventually get it. I mean if my girl's 10-year-old little sister can pass the last stage, anyone can.

The cow and bear levels are so hard for me to get bigger than medium....I get my katamari huge, but then I always end up running into something that I don't really see.

Has anyone ever gotten that bull with fire shooting out of its ass that runs around the road? (that sounds so dirty)

I have gotten that bull and I think one size bigger than that. I have not been able to get the giant cow in the park though, which I believe is the biggest of them all.

The gameplay just doesn't suit my taste. It was fun at first but then it got tedious. Reminds me of Mojo! rather than tetris. Tetris never gets old.

KD is original but it seems like the developers did all the crazy stuff just so that it is crazy and stands out. But I wish it much success so that it encourages more Japanese developers to bring their games over.... And hopefully that'll lead to a sequel or spiritual sequel to Rez!!!!

I still can't get over the visuals in Rez and it's just too bad that it was released so early after the launch of the PS2.
