Why liberals are so condescending?
Another month or three and I'll complete all of the jobs on Mafia Wars. Then, I can focus on finding a decent game on kongregate.com or passing my CCNA.
That will never happen as they keep adding new Cities to Mafia Wars. :D
That's not always totally true. Musicians today don't use all guitar strings (Something you can blame on grunge), and today's music is alot more mindless.
That's just kind of an odd distinction to make. Surely you don't need to use all 6 strings all the time. I doubt you condemn all music where anybody plays an open D because it only uses 4 strings, and the only chords allowed are 6th string rooted barre chords. You don't listen to music and think, "that was pretty good, but they could've used a few dominant elevenths in there," you really don't care what kind of chords they're playing and how many strings are involved.

Power chords have their place in rock (and power chords surely came before grunge, even before punk and metal), they just kinda sound better than full barre chords when distorted. And if you throw a solo in there they've almost certainly used every string at some point anyway, but it's kind of a ridiculous distinction to make. The problem you might have is simply that playing 3 or 4 power chords for an entire song is kind of repetitive. Sure it is, but it would be just as repetitive if they played a full barre chord and used every string as required. You can make shitty repetitive music with any combination of strings and chords.

Yeah, on that front I'll have to confess that I'm definitely a grunge guy. PJ, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana etc. are the bands that really got me into music and I still listen to a ton.

Today's music, I honestly just don't put enough effort into seeking what's out there (even in the mainstream as I almost never listen to the radio and never watch the video channels) so say what I think of it.

I mainly just pick up new albums by bands I've been listening to for years.

One of the worst op eds I've read in a looong time, epitomized by using Krugman's dismissal of alternate econ theory as evidence of liberal condescension. WTF is that shit. What does the author expect from him? "Golly, never thought of that before, you're right, fiscal conservatism does make more sense"?

I guarantee you any econ PhD has already considered the alternate views. Conservative economists have already considered liberal theory, liberal economists have already considered conservative theory, and each have concluded in favor of what they believe to be the superior stance, that's how shit works. Yet the author of the op ed goes off the deep end, claiming that by attacking conservative theory Krugman is being condescending? What a fucking joke.

But more on-topic, since I know this thread is more about liberal condescension than the specific bullshit spewed out by the op ed author, I definitely think liberals are condescending, but no more so than conservatives. We humans all believe our opinions are right and other opinions are wrong. That's just how beliefs work. Most of my family think, because I support Obama, I must've been brainwashed by the liberals up here in 'the big city', or all this 'liberal media', et al, they believe my opinion is *wrong* and that I am either dumb or being deceived for having it... and this is my family, this is a group of people who love me. Humans are just condescending, period, neither liberals nor conservatives are any sort of exception.

I've had Just Coffee before - they made a blend exclusively for the WFTDA's east regional tournament in 2008 (Derby in Dairyland blend?). It was very good - and if I enjoy a fruity, acidic medium roast, you know it's excellent. Will definitely try this, thanks.

The best coffee I've ever had was Yemeni Mocha. Couple of friends are roasters locally, so I get the bags that are still warm to the touch. French press and Brazilian wax is where it's at...wait...hunh?

I don't like coffee, but I do enjoy cheese. Mostly American middle-class cheese though, like mozzarella and colby jack. Not that fancy foreign stuff!

I am with you..some of the more expensive "complex" cheeses just taste bad to me.

If you aint down with the gruyère or jarslberg, get the fuck out and do not come back.

Check that è action. Super condescending.

Can we talk about how annoying it is for people to pronounce Chipotle "chip-ol-tay"?

EDIT: Sonofabitch...

Screw Jarlsberg, you need some real Emmentaler. Appenzeller is where it's at.

I drink tea. The Boston tea partiers drank tea. I want to know - do these self-proclaimed tea-baggers drink tea? I'm not talking about Mickey D's sweet 'tea' or stuff that comes in a can labeled "Brisk" - I'm talking about civilization served hot in a porcelain vessel.

I'm beginning to think the name tea-baggers has nothing to do with the beverage.

I have mad love for the slight citrusy, yet peppery hints of Lady Grey all up in this motherfucker.

We should rename the midwest the "orange pekoe belt."

Fruity name or not that stuff makes the best iced tea known to man.
Well since the thread seems to have taken a turn off a cliff i guess i'll stoke the fire....

tea > coffee
Why do you generalize so much!?!

There are many teas that I would drink before coffee, but nothing beats a hot straight french roast!

Back on topic....

I think Sarah Palin's comment of "hows that hopey changey thing workin out for ya?!" id one of the stupidest and condescending remarks I have ever heard a "politician" udder in recent times.

Oh shit. Finally a post I can respond to in this thread.

I'm totally with you. Coffee is disgusting and even the smell of it is nauseating. But lately we have this supermarket that has gotten all these fancy cheeses that cost way too much. Each pay day I snag a few of them and I have really been enjoying all these new flavors.

It's a real joy to know some Swiss bastard worked his ass off in a cave 3 years ago to make my cheese and let it sit there, in the cave, to age. It makes it taste so good to think about that.

But anyway, I digress - cheese kicks ass. In fact, I'm convinced, god eats cheese exclusively - and I know he eats fully loaded nachos on special occasions.

The Wegmans here has a fancy cheese section, but I haven't bought anything from it yet. I'd hate to spend a crazy amount of money and not like it, so right now my cheese experiences have been limited to what you might get from kraft. Though there was some edam cheese I got a few christmases ago that was great on crackers or by itself.

I think I like mild cheeses mainly. I don't like the sharp shit. So can we open this thread to cheese suggestions?
Only if us lib'rls get to frown upon aerosol cheese in cans.
I'll do it publicly, but my career as a liberal may be over once somebody gets a picture of me with some american easy cheese on a ritz. That shit is irresistible.

I try to stay away from Whole Foods but if you got one by you they have a pretty good cheese selection and I noticed that since the recession they have been putting out smaller and smaller blocks of cheese so you can get basically a sample for a two dollars or so.

Many supermarkets now sell goat cheese, gruyere and double gloucester so there you don't have to jump into something like morbier right away. Kraft etc. aren't even really cheese but cheese food products.

Yeah, it's not real cheese, easy cheese sure as hell isn't real cheese either, but it's good. I like the cheeseish shit they put in handi-snacks too...

Next time I go to Wegmans I'll see if they have any reasonably priced small packs to try.

A thread about condescending lib'ruls turns into a cheese and tea discussion. Jesus Christ we're walking stereotypes.

I was always a Tillamook man m'self. All their cheese is killer.

Right. There's a population somewhere of people who are repulsed by all this queer cheese and feminazi tea - and they'd rightly assume we'd eat that raw fish Jap food to boot.

Give them a box of Cheez-its and a sixer of Busch Light any day of the week. I guess eating repugnant chemicals from corporations makes one have "bedrock values." or whatever GOP talking point belongs here.

Cheez-its.
Cheddar jack and the sharp cheddar/parmesan duoz are the best. Good, liberal cheez-its.
Personally I think medium cheddar has a bit more flavor then sharp.
Cheez-its.
Indeed. Polished off the last 1/4th of a box of White Cheddar Cheez-its last night playing some Mass Effect 2.

Of course, being the good liberal, I washed it down with a Scaldis Noel (Belgian x-mas season), Brassierie Dieu Du Ciel Corne da diable (IPA from Canada) and a Founder's Imperial Stout. :D

Had to represent at least on the beverage front! :D
Personally I think medium cheddar has a bit more flavor then sharp.
I don't really like the sharp cheddar by itself, but combined with the parmesan it tastes a lot like the cheddar jack, so it's good by me. The taco/cheddar blanco duoz aren't bad either, but since half are "taco" flavored it's a bit weird...just...conceptually...

I see they have a new "italian four cheese" flavor now. I haven't tried those, they sound good. They appear to actually have five cheeses in there (monterey jack, parmesan, mozzarella, romano, and asiago), but I guess only four of them are italian, so the box is technically accurate.

Ok Im going to post something about the media and tea party coverage. Hopefully we'll get on topic. If even one person reads this without wanting cheese I'll be happy.

So O'Reilly said his team did some research on the 'MSM' (translation: everyone but us, FOX) coverage of the tea parties and he said they only found 2 positive stories out of 1000. He said he wasn't saying the other 998 were negative stories.

My question is: why are there ANY positive stories on this. Isn't the media supposed to cover the facts and remain objective? I.e., cheerleading the tea party movement is antithetical to 'we report you decide'.

Relate that to cheese or GTFO. And if you want me to read anything while simultaneously not wanting cheese, well you're out of luck buddy.

I sometimes wonder if the Tea Parties' worst enemies are Democrats or Republicans (let's forget the "anti big government" crowd, as that's just code for people who don't know much about government but want to have an opinion and are romanticized by conservative principles).

Seeing that link, it's no wonder that the McCains are enemies to the TPers. Both groups have the potential to redefine the Republican party for good.

Isn't it funny that Meghan McCain is quickly becoming the closest thing to a "intellectual conservative" you were wanting Myke?
